In every speech I state that as President, when reviewing judicial applicants, any candidate for the bench who can view a sonogram of an unborn child, and not see a valuable human life, will not receive my appointment. This has been my position throughout my career and will be strongly emphasized in my Presidency. I will continue to make that known and continue to solicit co-sponsors in my legislation that establishes legal recognition of the unborn at conception.

Since [my son] Duncan has been recalled to active duty in the marines and is serving in Afghanistan, while remaining an official candidate for congress, he is not allowed to solicit political support in any way. However, those of us who believe in Duncan can raise money and volunteers as we wait for him to return to the U.S. in November. ...Don’t put me down as undecided! Send any help to his website at www.hunterforcongress.com. Many thanks!

Welcome Congressman. ...I was wondering what is your position on major tax reform such as what is proposed in HR 25 (Fair Tax).
24 posted on 08/13/2007 4:34:25 PM EDT by CougarGA7 (It's up to us to keep it all from unraveling)

Yes, I am an original co-sponsor of the Fair Tax. Its attractiveness is manifested in the $250 billion + savings that Americans will enjoy from relief of the tax bureaucracy and also will solve the double taxation problem that penalizes American exporters. This will result in a reduction of the trade deficit, and increased American jobs and profits.

My two sons served in Iraq. My younger son came back a month ago. Let me tell you that they were dismayed at the reporting from Iraq upon their return. They see positve improvements within the past two years....My brother, a Navy LCDR lived in the Green Zone. When I asked him about a certain bombing the media reported. He denied it happened. ...The media seem only interested in the political component to this war. How do you see their behavior?

To: rbosque
The problem with the media’s interpretation of the events in Iraq is that their reports tend to devolve into justifications for their personal political positions which are generally left-winged. A reporter at a bar in Baghdad can select practically any anecdotal circumstance he wants to make a “factual conclusion”. In recent weeks, even liberal observers have acknowledged that the Marines have turned around the situation in Anbar Province where the population has joined them to resist Al-Quaeda. However, if you ask the average American if he has seen evidence of this shift on American television, the answer is no.

Sir, if you have time, what is your position on ‘earmarks’ and other projects - especially non-defense items? This ties in with your views on federalism (as espoused by the ANTI-federalists Mason, Henry, Lee, and Ronald W. Reagan)
23 posted on 08/13/2007 4:33:59 PM EDT by 4CJ (Annoy a liberal, honour Christians and our gallant Confederate dead)

To: 4CJ
Let me give a few examples of Hunter “earmarks”:

1) The double fence between Tijuana and San Diego that reduced smuggling of people and narcotics by more than 90%.

2) 10,000 jammers for troops in Iraq to protect against roadside bombs.

3) Filtration ponds on the most polluted river in North America (New River at the Mexican border) which have been credited with providing a 90% cleanup of the tainted water which is diverted through them.

My point is: Representatives of congressional districts are supposed to put together the budget of the United States. There is no Constitutional basis for the new thinking that the President’s budget is sacrosanct and that any changes by the very Representatives of the areas affected are somehow “illegitimate”. Spending or participating in the budget process is not, in and of itself, illegitimate, but is rather the very obligation of Congress. That said, wasteful projects should be eliminated, and their authors held politically accountable. You may notice that I post all my Congressional initiatives on the internet so that Americans can judge my record.

You may recall that I pointed out in the New Hampshire debate that Governor Romney and Mayor Guiliani strongly supported the Clinton “assault weapon ban”. I fought this legislation and pointed out at a press conference with Charlton Heston that under the proposed legislation President Clinton’s own Benelli Shotgun would be banned if augmented with a magazine extender and a pistol grip. Armed Americans are an important part of Homeland Defense, and are protected by the U.S. Constitution. I will not allow their rights to be eroded.

?I hear too many alarming reports suggesting that the limitations of our military Rules of Engagement often risk the safety of our troops, and obstruct their ability to effectively prosecute the war in Iraq. Do you agree with that premise, and, if so, what plans would a Hunter presidency have in place to address this issue?
104 posted on 08/13/2007 4:55:33 PM EDT by lonevoice (It's always "Apologize to a Muslim Hour"...somewhere)

To: lonevoice
American Soldiers and Marines must have the ability to

1) destroy the enemy
?2) protect themselves

These requirements are interpreted by battlefield commanders who adopt specific rules according to the area of operations. For example: a crowded city is not a free-fire zone, while a situation like the second battle of Fallujah where the civilian population is evacuated is much different. Urban fighting is extremely difficult, because the enemy is often revealed only as they expose weapons immediately prior to their attack. Most battlefield commanders take this into consideration when laying out rules of engagement in specific situations. My recommendation is always to enact ROE’s that favor the survival of U.S. Troops.

Rather than base a Presidency on the satisfaction of interest groups, I will work to shape an America where our citizens are more independent of government the day I leave the White House than when I take office.

Will you make an unalterable, clear, binding commitment that we will win the war on terrorism and the campaign in Iraq, so that the blood shed in this war will not have been shed in vain? Will you make that commitment to those troops who have given life and limb and to their families and loved ones?

I have already given that commitment to the American Troops. One thing I can’t give is a guarantee of Freedom for the state of Iraq, as no nation’s Freedom can be guaranteed in purpetuity (not even the United States). As Benjamin Franklin said, “We have a Republic, if we can keep it”. I will continue our Military Campaign against Islamist Terrorists with increased vigilance and effort.

That LOST treaty is scarry, and I don’t understand why VP Cheney and Condi Rice support it. Do they want us to be under the thumb of the U.N. and pay taxes to the U.N., as well?

Condi is and always was a global power freak with no clue of the domestic damage LOST would do. From what I can tell, Cheney wants to help his friends in the mining business... little do they know the domestic damage LOST would do to them as well when our creditors will get the first piece of the action. LOST would consolidate permitting for seabed mining under the most corrupt bureaucracy on earth.

But that isn't the worst of it.

As I posted over three years ago,

The big issue with LOST isn't about the ocean; it's about land use control.

This global bureaucracy will justify control of land use to "protect" the marine environment. It isn't hard to see. Many oceanic species breed in estuaries within the United States. Estuarine health isn't doing very well for a number of reasons (many of which politicized science will conveniently miss). The estuaries are fed by rivers. The rivers are lined with cities.

Marine sanctuaries and global biospheres are model for what is planned for LOST. If all we accomplish is to alter the treaty to gain protection for our military, we will have missed the point.

LOST is a straitjacket fully capable of crippling this nation (which certainly affects its ability to defend itself) (bold emphasis added for pissant's indigestion :-). That the White House says it knows nothing about it belies the fact that, according to the email I get from ALRA, the White House and Chuck Hagel are the instigators in pushing this treaty through in the dark of night after the Reagan Administration had rejected it out of hand.

Thanks for your insight, and I’ll check out your link. I really thought that VP Cheney had more common sense than that.

Under the LAW OF THE SEA treaty, a U.N. agency – the International Seabed Authority – would be empowered to regulate the usage of seven-tenths of the earth’s surface.

Thank you for your response on “earmarks” and examples of earmarks you have added to budgets.

Let me ask if there are earmarks that you believe are not part of the job of Congress and can you give some examples of those types of earmarks?

Thank you.
