unknown = iran?

Doubt it. Shiites don't usually use suicide bombers in Iraq (no matter what kind of noise you hear from Iran), they use IEDs

This is actual news reporting for once!

Wow!

The interesting thing to me is the stark difference between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Yemen and Saudi Arabia are almost the same country, sharing a border that varies in its location without either nation caring too much about the details in the desert.

...but, a key difference is that Yemen is dirt poor, whereas Saudi Arabia is comparatively wealthy.

This leads one to think that the current jihad is an elitist enterprise among academic Islamists, rather than a grass roots struggle by masses of Muslims.

The difference isn't subtle. An elitist war has very limited recruiting ability. Wars fought by Knights in medieval times could find a kingdom quickly exhausted of elites, for instance, even though the peasantry had a thriving population.

What's with the MSM?

For years it was civil war, civil war, civil war. . . .

Now they stopped spinning long enough to acknowledge this, and more! They're up to something. Rush says it's to help Dems sneak away from their "we lost the war" propaganda now that despite all, some truth is seeping into the public's awareness.

The Iranian Mullahs don't like it, so it does have, at the least, that one redeeming quality.

AND WHO has made it possible for the US of A to pay the Saudis money for oil? We tried during the x42 administration to open ANWR, but were vetoed by the then president. So far the tree huggers and ecowackos have hindered the building of more oil refineries and drilling for more oil in the Gulf of Mexico, yet have no problem with the Chinese drilling 35 miles off the Florida coast. How about them apples? Wait till trees become fodder for ethanol.....lol

Yea. Sounds like the house of Saud would take the gold, silver , and bronze. The raw irony behind this all is that if the US, Great Britain, French did not via. their big business contacts and ambitions for cheap oil upward from FDR, then Eisenhower and beyond mettle in the ME it would still be mostly like it was for some thousand years, in short nothing. Then of course one can add, but there where little options, the Ruskies had their eyes on the region etc..
Speaking of. The Russians helped build up this modernized state of madman. Nassar amoung the foremost in the early days. So many different factions of radicalized fundelmental Islamic groups slowly allowed to merge and steer the courses of these countries, fueled with monies from the western countries and the Soviet Union.
Then throw in the mess in Persia.
The quest for cheap oil and gas did us in.
The world is a complicated place.

Russia still makes matters worse in Iran and Syria with its arms sales and nuclear reactor for being built for Iran. It’s not ideological today, but they don’t mind making life risky for those who are under attack by Iran and Syria’s proxies. I’m sure the average Russian neither knows, cares, or can influence these matters if he wanted to.

"This leads one to think that the current jihad is an elitist enterprise among academic Islamists, rather than a grass roots struggle by masses of Muslims."
I could hardly agree more. The stage was set back in the twenties or so, when people like Sayyid Qutb, a philsophical member of the Muslim Brotherhood located in Egypt started forming their radical views. We should remember for a long period of time the Salafist and Wahhabist where in existence and essentially did nothing but keep to themselves. They where not out to retake the world for allah, not in least physically.
For they had no means to do so. Islam was keep in it's place by the physical and geopolitical barriers emposed upon it.
Now the picture changed when the west and Russia stepped into the picture during and after WWII. Obviously the Nazi already had started to ball rolling earlier on, but those early on intercourses between Europeans and the Arabs could have been thwarted given hindsight.
But alas. The need for huge amounts of low cost high grade oil came into the picture. And the race was on.
The reality one cannot escape is the European and Western nations along with the Russians sank enourmouse amounts of monies into what has turned into a nightmare for all.
The various elistist you elude to where properly funded over the years to emerge into now what amounts to a major world problem. Equal in effect to what communism represents.

I agree with your post response completely. Meanwhile the Ruskies are selling a lot of gas on the east coast via. Lukoi gas stations. Fizzes me off if you get my drift.

Yes, we end up funding a country that’s led by a man, Putin, who behaves like foe. It’s very unfortunate and a good reason to drill our own oil in ANWR. ANWR, however, is to the Liberals sacred oil since drilling there would annoy the caribou. On the other hand, bio-fuels will drive up the cost of food for the poor and probably lead to starvation amongst the world's poorest. But we'll never annoy a caribou or upset the Liberals' love of his sacred oil that must remain below ground.
