Newark Police Director: Immigration Status Of Schoolyard Slayings Suspect "Irrelevant"
Millennium Radio New Jersey ^ | Wednesday, August 15, 2007 | By: Martin Di Caro

Posted on 08/15/2007 5:31:08 AM PDT by Calpernia

At a news conference on Tuesday, Newark Police Director Gary McCarthy said the immigration status of a chief suspect in the murders of three college students behind an elementary school August 4 is "irrelevant."

"What's relevant to me is that they're murderers, and what's relevant is that a heinous crime has occurred," said McCarthy.

Jose Carranza, 28, one of three suspects so far charged in the execution-style killings, is an illegal alien from Peru. However, despite his many encounters with the legal system, his immigration status wasn't determined. Had federal immigration officials known Carranza was arrested in connection with child rape allegations first in January and then again in May, they could have immediately moved to detain the accused at his bail hearings. But federal officials were never notified. Carranza posted $150,000 bail and was freed in late May.

McCarthy contended there were no guarantees the feds would have acted. "They might have and they might not have," he said. Before he could be asked another question by reporters, Newark Mayor Cory Booker interjected. "It is no way the obligation of the city police department to bo going around doing the work of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]." Booker added that talk focusing on Carranza's imigration status could have a chilling effect on immigrants in his city. He said immigrants, both legal and illegal, are routinely picked on by criminals.

Booker and McCarthy revealed no specific information about the ongoing hunt for three more suspects, two of whom are juveniles. The 24-year-old being sought, Rodolfo Godinez of Newark, was a fugitive on the night of the murders and has been for four years. He became a fugitive in July 2003 after failing to appear in Superior Court on charges that he robbed and attacked three people in Irvington a year earlier, according to court records obtained by the Star-Ledger.

The news conference was called so Mayor Booker could unveil a street surveillance program he says will reduce crime in the city's most dangerous neighborhoods. The multimillion dollar program will saturate high-crime areas with cameras and gunshot detection technology. The total number is expected to reach more than 120 when all are in place by next summer.

Newark needs the cheap labor. Everyone KNOWS that the guy who comes ILLEGALLY, breaking all the rules, understands that the lst intent he has to break the LAW to get to Newark. So after that, which law’s is he expected to keep. YES, it is pertinent to the case that he was in the US Illegally, Mr. Chief of Police.

Booker was elected. Representative government in action. However, in a just world Booker and McCarthy would be brought up on charges themselves.

Irrelevant? Why don’t these idiots get it? Sure some people are just plain evil, but if you aren’t a citizen here you don’t follow the rules and laws that allows you to live among us. You probably don’t even know what they are.

Actually, it is very relevant. Because he is a Mexican national, when the time comes for him to go on his hot date with Ms. Sparky, the Mexican government will scream and holler and make as much noise as possible to try to get this guy off the hook, using whatever international pressure it can bring to bear from the anti-DP idiots out there in the “world community”.

Jerry Rivers used the same argument last night. It’s like saying coitus is irrelevant in pregnancy.

immigration status of a chief suspect

In the same way we shut down terms like "undocumented immigrant", we should shut down the term "immigration status". "Status" sounds like some paperwork wasn't done. Maybe the term "immigration crime" would be more appropriate.

Maybe the chief would like to tell that to the

This story is being spun. The chief is saying that murder is what happened here and that’s what he is concerned about. He doesn’t want this to become something bigger and beyond his jurisdiction for when it does it takes some focus off the crime that was committed. I don’t see him saying he doesn’t care about immigration.

Bravo on you Jorge and Co.

Your post sounds like a spin.

No one lost focus on the death of these kids. Their death would not have happened if the Newark police department notified the federal government.

The City of Newark took grant money to shut up.

They were paid to let those kids die.

And you want to post political propaganda on Jorgey Bush to distract from that? Does the White House apply for Praxis Project Grants????

No, Newark does.

You are right about that. People keep getting disaster from the Dems, especially in big cities like this, then they complain when crime is rampant. Yet it doesn’t make them change their voting behavior. They have no one to blame but themselves.

This soft on crime state rep. here in CT is decrying a pro 3 strikes rally that citizens have planned in the wake of the horrific home invasion-murders a few weeks ago. State rep calls it a knee jerk reaction. He is an idiot, as are any constituents who complain about the murders, then vote for this dolt again!

What’s relevant to me is that the murders wouldn’t have occurred if illegals weren’t here.

What’s relevant to me is Newark is a sanctuary city. If it wasn’t, those children would not be dead.

Yup!
Irrlevant!

If he’d raped my daughter and then threatened my family if we testified, he’d be dead.
No other factors apply.

I scrolled across a particularly apropos word the other day:

CRIMIGRANT

Seems to me that if he wasn’t here the murders wouldn’t have happened. That makes it relevant.

I’m sure those kids felt it was relevant as well.
