Israeli Scientist Figures Out How Time Machine Might Work
FOX News.com ^ | August 21, 2007 | Charles Q. Choi

Posted on 08/22/2007 8:15:35 AM PDT by LurkedLongEnough

A new concept for a time machine could possibly enable distant future generations to travel into the past, research now suggests.

Unlike past ideas for time machines, this new concept does not require exotic, theoretical forms of matter.

Still, this new idea requires technology far more advanced than anything existing today, and major questions remain as to whether any time machine would ever prove stable enough to enable actual travel back in time.

Time travel research is based on bending space-time so much that time lines actually turn back on themselves to form a loop, technically known as a "closed time-like curve."

"We know that bending does happen all the time, but we want the bending to be strong enough and to take a special form where the lines of time make closed loops," said theoretical physicist Amos Ori at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. "We are trying to find out if it is possible to manipulate space-time to develop in such a way."

Not the first thread on this. Must be somebody developed a time machine and planted a thread in the past. BTW, nobody will travel back to before time machines were first built.

What's wrong with this picture? On this thread we're talking about: Time travel research is based on bending space-time so much that time lines actually turn back on themselves to form a loop, technically known as a "closed time-like curve." And yet, on another thread we talk about our advanced military forces fighting sandal clad terrorists attacking us on "battle donkeys." Talk about a clash of civilizations!

Sometimes I think that if we could only have a way to show those radical, backward islamo's what an incredible world we have here with all the possibilities, that they might embrace western thought...and then I put down my beer and pick up the bug spray...

Time is an a priori concept, purely inner, and the time they are talking about here is an illusory fact supposedly developed from physics and astronomy. It’s an illusion, so you wouldn’t need a time machine but just the right kind of glasses.

My favorite Doctor. Pertwee was the first one I saw and I do like him a great deal as well. I got to met Peter Davidson at a Dragoncon once, he seemed like a very nice fellow.

Speaking of Peter Davidson, there was a series we netflixed called “The Last Detective” which he starred in. It was a good and typically well made British show.

You two need to look up an old story called “Rumfuddle”. In one timeline, the group goes back and corrects Hitler in parallel universes. He serves them tea in a Bistro..... Not sure how they would have dealt with Carter :-)

It was placed by a guy, I don't remember the name, who had a mullet haircut years ago. He was never heard from again.

I was just playing around with my time machine today.

I wanted to go back to 1992. That was a pivotal year. Remember? George Bush was re-elected. Think of what that caused. The Muslims bombed the World Trade Center the next year and killed a handful of people.

Fortunately, Bush had all his army divisions available, and basically bombed and battered the fledging Al-Qaeda organization back to nothing. They’ve hardly bothered us at all since then.

Anyway, I went back to 1992 and nothing happened. Actually, I did see Ross Perot and mentioned “hey, with your money, I bet you could run for president!” I’m sure nothing came of that.

'Them' wasn't it? Good premise for a movie. Needed a bigger budget. Maybe some punching-up of the script.
