Bill Clinton 'looked into running for vice president under Hillary'
Daily Mail ^ | 31st August 2007

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told a talk show her husband, Bill, had "looked into" running as her vice president.

Appearing on the David Letterman show on Thursday, the talk-show host asked if Bill Clinton could serve as her vice president should she be elected to the White House.

But the former first lady acknowledged that he could not. "Believe me," she joked, "he looked into that."

She also remarked that if the Constitution didn't forbid a president from a third term, "he might be running."

The interivew marked Clinton's seventh appearance on "The Late Show," which was celebrating its 14th anniversary on CBS.

She first appeared on February 14, 1994, when Letterman's mother, Dorothy, interviewed her briefly from the Winter Olympics in Norway.

On Thursday's show, Clinton recounted a summer in Alaska during which she donned boots and an apron to gut salmon with a spoon.

"Best preparation for being in Washington that you can possibly imagine," she joked.

Clinton talked shop, too, discussing the need for campaign finance reform, how to pull troops out of Iraq and the importance of caring for wounded veterans.

She said that while resistance to a female commander in chief has diminished, it hasn't disappeared.

"I think it's not so much that people don't think a woman can do the job, it's just that we've never done it before," she said.

"I'm not running because I'm a woman; I'm running because I think I'm the best-qualified and experienced person who can do the job. But I know that it's a big deal that I might be the first woman president."

Clinton also read a "Top Ten List" of tongue-in-cheek campaign promises, including No. 3: "We will finally have a president who doesn't mind pulling over and asking for directions."

Actually, it wasn’t the founders, but rather the generation of FDR which didn’t want another 4 term “President for Life” to trample the constitution, pack the courts, and sell out small countries (think Czechoslovakia, Austria, Poland, China) as he developed his own pet version of National Socialism.

That and having a Communist Agent as his Vice President (Wallace).

Important to note we had two Adams’ Father and Son, and two Harrison, Granfather and Grandson. The Roosevelt presidents were cousins (Theodore gave away the bride at FDR and Elanor’s wedding).

On the other hand Lincoln was the only president with a Patent.

I'm with you. I don't know how so many educated Freepers, that normally do quite well at reading comprehension, can read "shall not be elected" and somehow their brain sees "shall not serve." It's like an irrational mental block.

As one of the law review articles says, "One can argue that the amendment prohibits ... ." Well, one can argue that the moon is made of green cheese, but it won't mean anything. The words say what they say. They are not ambiguous or subject to multiple interpretations. Elected means elected. Serve means serve. How do so many Freepers have a problem with that?

The fact that Bill Clinton had to look into it just proves how little he knows about the Constitution.

22nd Amendment:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

12th Amendment:
But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

I think the 22nd Amendment may actually make Hillary ineligible to be President, since she's been acting like she's the President since 1992.

I still say Hillary is not that stupid. She knows Bill. She knows that putting Bill one heartbeat, one of her heartbeats, away from another term or two as president AND the ability to date with a clear conscience, is, whether it’s constitutional or not, just a really, really bad idea.

He could be named VP for the last two years of her term to replace someone who mysteriously met his demise.

Goodness Doug, what a frightening thought!

Right you are, another insightful piece of journalistic tripe we can expect from our friends overseas. Do they think if only the American people were smart enough to put a Marxist POS in the White House again their quality of life would improve?

Reading the quotes it actually sounds like Hillary was pretty funny, in a format I was actually expecting her to bomb at. I think a lot of conservatives underestimate her chances of winning.
