‘Who is Owen Wilson and why should I care if he attempted suicide?’

He’s just a lightweight idiot hollywood surfer dude.

And you don’t have to care, I don’t either.

I think Owen’s Uncle Hoe should sue their pants off. See how hard they laugh then.

The rumors say he’s got a serious heroin addiction.

You may well be right. The photos of him after his release do not show the cut wrists that he supposedly had.

That would make more sense. Isn’t that how Richard Pryor decided to literally “get lit”? Or was it crack?

“Boo-frikkin’ hoo! He tried to kill himself. What, his Ferrari wasn’t ready in time for the w/e?”

***

Story goes that he was despondent over the break-up of his latest romance. Usually, though, the depression have been going on for a long time. The break-up might be “the last straw,” but usually, there is something happening under the surface long before then. The suicide attempt is usually the proverbial cry for help that people finally notice.

I don’t profess to be an expert on the subject, but I may understand it a little bit. I have depression on and off myself. I’m lucky to have mine under control, but there are some who never get it under control. I’ve never been suicidal, probably because I’m too chicken to die, but I can understand how depression can lead to suicide or a suicide attempt.

One can be indifferent to Mr. Wilson’s situation, but those who laugh at it are heartless and cruel.

Getting the giggles is intensified when the setting is inappropriate, especially when you have a cohort.

In basic training back in the 60's a fellow 'cruit said something was incredibly funny. We all stood at attention in formation, our lips about to burst into laughter. The DI said "you may laugh." It was the first time I realized that animal was human too. Later, I saw much the same scene in a movie.

That said, the anchorette is pretty hot. So it is worth watching.

Agreed. It's the only notable post on this thread.

If you want to see a good movie, but sad as hell, watch jojo dancer. You’ll see how pryor in a drug rage pours alcohol over himself and lights himself on fire.

Considering that tens of millions of people in the USA take or have taken anti-depressants, and that many (not all) of them can be in rather severe psychological crisis before they even get to the point of having a prescription for an anti-depressant, such brief ANECDOTAL lists mean nothing scientifically. Also, there is often (not always) a lot of drug and/or alcohol abuse that can accompany serious depression, so attributing causation to an anti-depressant is very speculative at best.

I speak from having witnessed some very serious depression among both family and friends which can be helped only by medication. The biggest is problem is that it is still very hit-or-miss to know which medication will work for which individual. There is much variation in individual brains and physiology, and what helps one person may not help another, and vice-versa.

p.s. Is there any reason to believe that Owen Wilson’s problems are not centered upon reported long-time serious drug abuse and addiction involving heroin and cocaine? I do believe that many people who resort to illegal drugs may be trying to self-medicate against the desperation of serious depression, but if someone has been known to be abusing heroin and cocaine over many years then it is hardly reasonable to jump to unsubstantiated speculations that anti-depressants are responsible for his problems.

Someone who still hasn’t figured out money & fame don’t bring happiness & peace I see. Apathy is one thing. Outright cruelty is another. That was unnecessary.

Who is Owen Wilson and why should I care if he attempted suicide?

He's not a great actor but he's a great guy, someone you'd have a beer with and party.

Him, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn make up the frat pack, their movies are hilarious.

He's a self-absorbed hollywierd loser who just can handle being rich and famous. With that said I cant name one movie he is in and I am damn proud of that.
