Um, I wasn’t attacking him, simply pointing out that I remember “true” conservatives were complaining about Reagen back in the 1980 primaries for the same reasons “true” conservatives are complaining about Guiliani. And, no, Reagan wasn’t even on speaking terms with Patty and Michael frequently. Patty even dumped her last name as a protest against him.
I’m a Fred Thompson supporter myself, but we don’t have to slam Guiliani for stuff like this. I’m being consistent. I didn’t slam Reagan for his family troubles, neither will I slam Guiliani.
We took President Bill Clinton’s personal life into account, so a candidate from our party doesn’t get a pass. I’m much more concerned with Giuliani’s positions on abortion, gun control, homosexual “rights” and a myriad of other issues, versus his sex life and such.
We took into account Clinton’s history of sexual harassment and lying to a grand jury but not really his personal life. And, true, Guiliani has problems with his position on social issues, and he doesn’t seem to be backing down. Reagan originally was to the left of conservatives on many social issues, but he either switched positions or didn’t push them (although 2/3 of his nominations to the Supreme Court weren’t the greatest).
But social issues aside we’re in the middle of a war, maybe a world war, for our survival. Although it’s fine to parse these social issues in the primary, when it comes to the general election we’re voting for somebody who will either lead us to victory in this war or Hillary who definitely does not have victory on her mind. In the coming years we won’t have the time or luxury to dwell on these secondary issues.
It boils down to this in my mind. If Guiliani is the nominee and becomes President he will spend his term focusing on the War against Islamic extremism. If Hillary wins she will shove the war to the back burner and focus on her social agenda. So in a roundabout way if I vote for Guiliani in the general election I am voting for conservative social issues.
I can’t vote for a man for president who wears a blonde wig and fishnet hose with relish. Seriously, why in the world would we want to choose between two New York liberals for President?
As a New York Republican, I am flabbergasted that other repubs. would support Giuliani. He announced on t.v., while mayor of NY that he was going to divorce his second wife. In fact that was how she found out, from the press announcement. Very classy, great leadership. Then he tried to force her out of the mayoral mansion so that his girlfriend could move in. When the courts thwarted that, he moved in with a gay couple. Again, great leadership.
So let’s recap - he was commiting adultery on his wife while mayor. Hmmm., wasn’t a president doing the same thing at the same time? We don’t need another immoral president. It would be nice to have someone whom I can have my children look up to.
There is only one candidate running who I think fits that bill. Romney. He has my vote.
Good point
I’d be afraid Mrs. Clinton would destroy the U.S. in thye time it takes her fat ass to walk around a city block.
I agree, I don’t want Rudy , and the less painful of to choices is a sorry way to go.
