The boy who is allergic to almost EVERY food

Tyler Savage: he is fed through a tube in his stomach

Tyler Savage: he is fed through a tube in his stomach

A boy of 12 suffers from so many allergies that he is able to eat only five foods.

Tyler Savage is violently ill every time he is given dishes containing dairy products or wheat, gluten, eggs, lactose and soya.

The sole foods he is allowed are chicken, carrots, grapes, potatoes and apples.

To help him survive, minerals and vitamins are pumped directly into his stomach through a tube.

Tyler started to fall ill at the age of six when even a morsel of food would leave him writhing in agony from sickness and diarrhoea.

His mother, Lynne Savage, 43, said: "We asked for help but kept being told that he was suffering from a stomach infection. As a result his weight dropped drastically.

"He ran out of energy really quickly and couldn't do the things other children were doing. He just seemed to be getting worse and worse.

"It's been a real struggle. We didn't know what to do."

Tyler - from Earls Colne in Essex - was seen by a paediatrician at Chelmsford's St John's Hospital and had his appendix removed in December 2005.

Although the operation was a success it failed to solve the problem and he was referred to Colchester General Hospital for further tests and treatment.

That shed no light on the mystery illness and in April last year Tyler was sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London for checks on his stomach and bowels.

The tests led to a diagnosis of eosinophilic enteropathy, a rare and condition in which the intestines produce too many white blood cells.

These act as a miniature immune system and attack food passing through the gut to the stomach.

The condition saw Tyler's weight drop to barely three stone.

"He was becoming malnourished," said Mrs Savage, a married mother-of-three and housewife.

At first, Tyler was fitted with a nose tube to help get food direct to his stomach, bypassing the rogue blood cells in his gut.

Then, this May, he had a tube inserted into his stomach allowing him to be fed for up to ten hours through the night.

"Even though this will continue for the foreseeable future, it is a godsend," said Mrs Savage.

"Last year he was only at school for about ten days, but in the first two weeks of this new term he's only missed one day.

"We've got a long way to go but at least we're now getting some answers."

In the day, Tyler, whose father, David, 60, is an engineer, can eat the five foods he is not allergic to.

This article would infer that true Catholics may disagree on matter of pro-life and pro-death as if it were a disagreement on which vestments a priest should wear on a certain feast day.

It does indicate however, the Vatican stand runs deeper and stronger than the wispy wishes of the barely committed.

The volume of the squeals measure the depth of the truth probe.

........................................

Catholic hospital officials are downplaying the declaration's effect. But some theologians are predicting that patients may feel compelled to leave or avoid Catholic hospitals and nursing homes. That goes especially for elderly people who might normally use a Catholic medical facility but do not want their end-of-life wishes contradicted.

~Snip~

Pope John Paul II gave mixed signals on the issue. In his 1995 encyclical, "Evangelium Vitae," he seemed to endorse the position that a feeding tube was extraordinary, saying, "Certainly the life of the body in its earthly state is not an absolute good for the believer." Yet in 2004 he indicated otherwise.

The lack of clarity, and lobbying by the National Right to Life Committee and others over the Terri Schiavo case in 2005, brought calls from the U.S. Bishops Conference for a ruling. That came last month. And it left little wiggle room.

Coming from perhaps the most powerful Vatican congregation, the declaration carries more weight than a passing statement in a papal speech.

Himes said theologians, not to mention many loyal Catholics, are mystified.

A question of last rights... What if a Catholic hospital doesn't respect your wishes?

Fred and Terri tar baby dailies...

After a happy hiatus, the tar baby returns, just slightly with some good and bad. First, the bad. The tar baby still sticks.

Now the good. Charlie Crist is unhappy with Fred. Terri's death makes Charlie happy, so this might be a good sign.

He said he could not remember much about the Terri Schiavo right-to-die controversy. And he implied that Cuban refugees could be dangerous.

Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican, followed a meeting with Thompson in September by telling the media he "wasn't overjoyed" with what Thompson had to say about Florida issues.

Thompson will try to get back on track at tonight's presidential debate in Orlando

On funding abortions, a thread by wagglebee:

Most pro-life people are outraged when they realize that Planned Parenthood, the number one abortion provider in the United States, is a tax exempt organization receiving hundreds of millions of our tax dollars. But everyone, pro-life or not, should be outraged over the criminal allegations Planned Parenthood faces in Overland Park, Kansas.

According to the 107-count indictment filed in Johnson County District Court yesterday, Planned Parenthood purposefully performed illegal late term abortions in violation of Kansas State law and unlawfully falsified documents in order to conceal that fact. They are also accused of failing to comply with the required medical reporting guidelines.

Surprised anyone? Thread by wagglebee:

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 18, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Gardasil, Merck’s questionable new vaccine against cervical cancer is expected to rake in at least a billion dollars in profits from sales, which will leave the pharmaceutical giant with more cash to donate to abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

Merck has a long history of supporting abortion and Gardasil profits could turn into a financial boost for Planned Parenthood, especially as US states and Canadian provinces begin either to encourage or require HPV vaccination for girls as young as 9.

Casual killing in England...Being gods remains a tough job for the death enthusiasts.

Thread by cool2007. Thanks, wagglebee.

More than 100 babies with minor disabilities, such as a cleft palate or club foot, were aborted in one area of England in a three-year period, statistics reveal.

The data records that 54 babies with club feet, 37 with cleft palates or lips, and 26 with extra or webbed fingers or toes were aborted in south-west England between 2002 and 2005.

Refreshing words from a Catholic Cardinal in a thread by wagglebee...

People who support abortion, euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research are worshipping “modern-day false idols,” Cardinal Justin Rigali said in Lincoln Saturday.

“(They are) putting their faith in human ingenuity and technology,” rather than following God and moral principles, he told about 350 people attending the annual Nebraska pro-life convention.

I have a bone to pick with BEN STEIN and his money. I admittedly watched The Most Smartest Super Model reality show on VH1. A blonde bimbo was asked to define: EUTHANASIA. Blonde bimbo said, "It's a humane way to put people to death."

BEN STEIN gives her the point and says "correct."

Well, in a technical way, he is right. That is why the death enthusiasts hijacked the term. It sounds so, so.... happy!

So while he is correct about the definition, the usage is anything but happy. The dark, evil side loves to use opposites, like war is peace, good is bad, death with dignity, ad nauseum.

Fred and Terri tar baby dailies...

In a burst of I-toldja-so's, the issue pops up to the surface once more, perhaps, the bubble to finally burst. I mentioned at the outset with the first Fred and Terri dailies, the mistake he made was twofold. One was the mistake itself. But the second was the deep underestimation of the dark burden of guilt the media carries with Terri's Legacy around their necks like an albatross. No way would they let this gaffe slide, so they reminded and reminded.

This is a NYT piece so only a tiny exerpt will slip out of my keyboard.

But you will be allowed to read the whole thing at the link.;-)

................................

But on Monday, when questioned at a news conference about his reaction to the Terri Schiavo case, Mr. Thompson opened up about the death, suggesting the Schiavo matter had particular resonance for him because of how his daughter, Elizabeth Panici, known as Betsy, had died.

“Obviously, I knew about the Schiavo case,” he said. “I had to face a situation like that in my own personal life with my own daughter.”

Fred and Terri tar baby dailies topic of the day in a thread by 668 - Neighbor of the Beast. Thanks, calpernia, and FV for the pings.

This thread is based on the earlier news article out of AP.

"And this will probably be the last time I ever address it."

Yeah, right, I am sure he means it, but the media just may not forget so soon. See numerous Fred and Terri dailies upthread here.

I am predicting the media will push Fred to declare his alliance with the dark side especially since they know about his daughter.

Call for Phillip Robert Morrisssss...

How desperate is Planned Parenthood? Just take a peek. I think PP is so anxious to force its faltering agenda in our faces, that it tries any means without shame. Perhaps these desperados are revealing their cards, realization momentum has failed them. Thread by wagglebee.

Students for Life suggests that some students were apparently unaware of where they were working, as one student left the building, called her mother and cried as the RMU faculty member demanded she return into the abortion clinic. "The student thankfully refused," said a Students for Life spokesman.

"A lot of colleges want to educate students on issues of community concern, and yet the Robert Morris administration is teaching how to destroy a community," Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America, said. "Planned Parenthood targets minorities and the poor, and now Robert Morris is showing students that view is acceptable and that the poor are worth less than the privileged who can attend their expensive private school."

Good for them!

Thread by wagglebee.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Students at more than 4,000 junior high and high schools as well as college campuses will join together on Tuesday to present a silent, positive message against abortion. As organizers prepare for the fourth annual Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity, they've heard from tens of thousands of students who want to share their pro-life views.

Stand True Ministries has put together this annual event as a way for students to silently protest abortion by representing the voices of unborn children who can't speak for themselves.

Fred's Schiavo do-over

"Obviously, I know about the Terri Schiavo case. I had to face a situation with that in my own personal life with my own daughter," Fred Thompson told reporters. But last month, the GOP hopeful said he didn't know enough to talk about the right-to-die case in Florida, where it occurred and where it is still a major issue.

This is more than a Fred and Terri redux. In this case, the contributer delves deeper with an interesting brain scan, not that of Terri, in the link.

................................

I respect Fred Thompson a LOT. But, I was frankly a bit put off by this recent comment about Schiavo-type situations:

I know this is bandied about as a political issue, and people want to make it such and talk about it in the public marketplace a lot. I am a little bit uncomfortable about that, because it's an intensely personal thing with me. These things need to be decided by the family.

Erick here at Redstate praised these remarks by Thompson, but I would be more cautious.

People who say that the government should stay out of situations like the Schiavo situation are being naive and simplistic. In the Schiavo situation, the parents wanted one thing, and the husband wanted another thing. In such a situation, the government must intervene. And that's what the government finally did in the Schiavo situation; it intervened to forcibly prevent the parents from taking custody of their daughter.......................

Any theater critics? Anyone??

......................................

Is Karen Finley coasting on her reputation as one of our country's most controversial performance artists? That's the question that comes to mind after viewing her occasionally provocative, but mostly tedious new show Wake Up! at the Theaters at 45 Bleecker.

~Snip~

The performance artist's oeuvre includes the slyly satirical The American Chestnut and the stunning Make Love, which was the most moving and effective response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that I've yet encountered. But Finley has also misfired with the politically reductive and painfully dull George & Martha and this latest effort, which consists of two companion pieces, "The Dreams of Laura Bush" and "The Passion of Terri Schiavo," presented in one intermissionless evening.

~Snip~

The second piece on the bill is more effective. Finley begins it by using paint brushes and black ink to create her own Rorschach test, which serves as background image and potent metaphor for "The Passion of Terri Schiavo." She then takes on numerous voices on both sides of the national right-to-die debate that erupted around the coma victim in 2005.

Some of these perspectives -- such as Mel Gibson's -- are clearly skewered, while others are given more serious dramatic weight. Finley ably demonstrates how Terri Schiavo's body became a locus for anyone and everyone to project their own fears, desires, and anxieties upon, precisely because it was passive and unable to respond. "We all know that the most popular female is a victim," she states. And yet, there's something very manufactured about the relentless litany of abusive phrases that Finley repeats over and over, building to crescendos that she practically screams at the audience. It's a vocal trick she's used plenty of times in past performances to good effect but here it comes across as simply loud, and devoid of real passion. It's as if she's merely going through the motions, indicating an outrage that she's unable to otherwise communicate to her audience.

Wake Up!
