CA: Alerts of ICE raids mulled

A network is being created to help illegal immigrants avoid that dreaded knock on the door in the wee hours.

In a recent two-week sweep touted as the largest of its kind, agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, arrested 1,300 illegal immigrants in the Southland at their homes, in jails or at work.

Antonio Bernabe, an organizer for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, hopes to prevent ICE from ever again rounding up that many people during its large operations.

"The raids are supposed to be targeting the criminals but they are breaking up families, they are affecting the economy, they are affecting the communities," he said. "We are desperate to find a way to stop the raids."

The coalition is considering an e-mail or text-messaging network that would instantly notify hundreds of illegal immigrants that ICE is making its rounds.

That way, they can either leave the area temporarily or keep a low profile. ICE officers are not authorized to break down doors while searching for immigrants, but they often wait outside a home until someone emerges.

"The fact that anyone would consider setting up such a hot line to inform on law-enforcement activities is an insult to the American public and to law-abiding immigrants," said ICE field office director Jim Hayes.

Immigration activists said rounding up illegal immigrants who are just trying to provide for their family and are contributing to society is unfair. Federal authorities said entering the country illegally is a felony and ICE's job is to uphold the law.

"We have seen over and over again that raids do not fix our broken immigration system," said Angelica Salas, the coalition's executive director.

A "raid line" already exists in Orange County, disseminating as much information as organizers can gather.

Such networks or hot lines can put both federal agents and illegal immigrants in danger, ICE officials said, and sometimes bring charges for aiding and abetting criminals.

Plus, the alert networks can only do so much because federal agents are searching for specific individuals rather than going door-to-door, officials said.

"We don't announce in advance where we're going to be going," ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said.

The crackdown is part of a national effort targeting 597,000 immigrants who have ignored judicial orders to leave the country. ICE officials said they focus on illegal immigrants who pose a safety threat, such as gang members, sex offenders and drug traffickers.

Bernabe pointed out that only 269 of the 530 illegal immigrants who were tracked down in their communities had criminal records or had been ordered deported. The rest were undocumented immigrants who had no criminal records.

This Bernabe character doesn’t understand. The real object of the game is to make life so miserable for illegals here that they just pack it in and go home.

As you yourself note, being warned of a bust ahead of time does not save them from losing their jobs and having their lives disrupted. If ICE had any brains they would put together a psyops unit specifically tasked to spread rumors and panic.

That said, can you just imagine how much the “quality of life” crimes will plummet when they know they can be collared and deported for getting caught driving drunk, littering, loitering, urinating in public, panhandling, causing a disturbance, etc.?

"They're looking for some guy named 'Jose', but I can't read the last name here...."

"I think his name is 'Jose Canyusee', they call his name at all the major sporting events, but he never shows up...."

No, because being in the U.S. illegally isn’t a felony per se, nor can one be deported without a hearing. So they can alert all they want — but will the people get their jobs back?

If you illegally break into OUR country and bring your kids and ICE rounds you up and takes you away from your kids, am I supposed to feel sorry for you?

I don’t think so! But I will remind you that actions have consequences.

I bet, but don’t know for sure, that it’s illegal to report ICE’s business to other criminal aliens.

I like the psyops idea!!! It is truly about time that many faced the consequences of their illegal activities.

“...fix our broken immigration system...”

You know his idea of “fixing” the system is open immigration with no limits. That’s what all the “immigration activists” mean when they say “fix”.

Aiding and Abetting/Accessory;

A criminal charge of aiding and abetting or accessory can usually be brought
against anyone who helps in the commission of a crime, though legal
distinctions vary by state.

Gather and exploit the SIGINT, send false alerts to those likely to 'rabbit' and bag 'em at the door.

Hmmm...

Seems to be the same address as the National Day Labor Organizing Network, and the California Partnership for Social Justice.

Anybody have that list of Soros funded organizations?

I came across a protest video tape at UCLA recently. The la raza (the race) were preaching about their stolen land and their ability to take it back. He mentioned the really stupid Congress we have sitting on their hands afraid to do anything about it.

He also brought up the fact that there are actually 40 million illegal aliens from Mexico and South America in the U.S. at this time. So if I hear anything more about the 10 mil. I’m just going to scream.

MS-13 gang needs to be deported they are ESPECIALLY dangerous.

Yeah, it’s textbook all right. Take a look at the ‘about’ section on the Partnership site. They claim 120 organizations.

What’s kind of funny... in an ironic way... is that the very same organizations who are claiming that every illegal in the country is just a hard-working person looking to support a family, is opposed to government activity that would make that claim of theirs more accurate. I guess they believe ‘dealing the drugs Americans don’t want to deal’ is a legitimate occupation.
