(Adulterer, flip-flopper) Giuliani asks Values Voters to trust him
The Politico ^ | 10/20/-2007 | Mike Allen

Posted on 10/20/2007 10:21:39 AM PDT by Ol' Sparky

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, walking into a political lion’s den, told the year’s largest gathering of social conservatives that he is “not always the best example of faith” but that their similarities are much greater than their differences.

“Isn’t it better that I tell you what I really believe instead of changing all my positions?” Giuliani told an audience of 2,000 at the Family Research Council's Values Voters Summit at a Washington hotel. “I believe trust is more important than 100 percent agreement.”

The audience, generally hostile to Giuliani, recognized the shot at former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and laughter and a few cheers spread across the room.

The former mayor, who left the stage grinning amid applause after his 40-minute speech, went for an authenticity contrast with Romney, substituting his law and order credentials for the family values emphasis of Romney, a long-married father of five.

Giuliani paid obeisance to the group’s concerns by speaking at length about his support for school choice, home schooling, conservative judges and Israel.

All drew earnest – even enthusiastic – applause. He also gave a detailed plan for reducing abortions and increasing adoptions, the meatiest policy element of his speech.

It was the “everything but” approach – he could agree with the audience on almost everything except whether a woman should be able to choose an abortion, which he supports.

"You and I know I’m not a perfect person,” he said. “I pray for forgiveness, I pray for strength.... I feel my faith deeply, although perhaps more privately than others, because of the way I was brought up.” He said he had prayed to God at the toughest parts of his life.

“During our lives, at some time, all of us need forgiveness,” he added. “If we expect perfection from our political leaders, we’re just asking for disappointment .... We lose trust when they’re not honest with us.... I don’t always agree with myself. [Laughter] … You’ll always know where I stand.... I will continue to extend my hand to you. I hope you’ll take it.”

Giuliani showed humor, noting that he almost entered seminary: “I know that’s hard to believe.” Noting that he attended Catholic school, he said the first school he attended where a prayer wasn’t said at the beginning of the day was the New York University School of Law.

He said that on the first day, out of confusion, he made the sign of the cross. “I looked around and realized people were staring at me,” he joked.

Giuliani pointed out that as New York mayor, he reduced murder, drugs, prostitution and other vices. "I don't believe in inevitable decline," he said, adding he shares President Ronald Reagan's belief in optimism.

"You put Republican ideas into action.... We got results. Humbly, I would say, the best results anyone in that time got in government."

"We drove pornography out of Times Square and other public spaces," he said, drawing hearty applause. "The pornographers lost and they were driven out of Times Square."

Instead of pandering to the group, Giuliani held his ground.

“We’ve got to find a way to be more inclusive,” Giuliani said. “Christianity is all about inclusiveness. It’s built around the most profound act of love in human history, isn’t it? … I’m running for president of the United States because I believe I can bring us together. Strong leadership can help us find common solutions to our problems.”

Giuliani drew laughter by saying he spends as little time in Washington as possible: “I’m afraid there’s something in the air here.”

“I’m not going to pretend that I can be all things to all people,” he declared. “I’m just not like that.”

But he added, in another dig at Romney, “I’ll always be honest with you.... You will always know where I stand.”

“You have absolutely nothing to fear from me,” Giuliani went on, adding that he was puzzled by those who make him out to be some kind of liberal activist: “Just read any New York Times editorial when I was mayor of New York City.” That got a big laugh.

Giuliani was speaking to one of the most conservative audiences in American politics. During a Christian worship service from the podium an hour before Giuliani spoke, leader Ron Freeman interspersed the praise hymn “Blessed be the Name” with the hopeful wish:

“We’ve got the right Senate and the Congress!” The prayer included: “We’ve tried hard to make your agenda, our agenda.”

Politico’s Jonathan Martin contributed to this report.

So what you’re saying is that when you said Rudy is to the left of Hillary you where being disingenuous and using the same rhetoric you claim the left will use against him? In other words, you where simply lying.

I have a sneaking suspicion you would avoid him and go find some center/leftist to support.

Get real. I'm as conservative as they come on almost every issue. At the same time I'm a realist, and that makes me disagree with conservative dogma with the correct approach to some things. Thus I hate illegal immigration, but I thought Bush's ideas on immigration were best for the long term. Thus I dislike many attributes about Rudy, but I am willing to support him 100% if he wins the nomination.

By the way, Hillary is the left of Rudy on every issue I can think of. Hillary disguises her communism well, pretending to be centrist to get votes.

The most important issue is nominating supreme court judges. Hillary will nominate Ruth Ginsberghs and Rudy would not..........a POTUS can appoint judges likely to overturn Roe V Wade...........

NARAL would be very surprised to hear Rudy "say" he would appoint judges to eliminate and/or undermine free-for-all abortion (course, what he'll "do" is something else).

Fact is, Rooty is joined at the hip with NARAL, P'Phood and the rest of the abortion worshippers. Rooty himself donated to PP and received contributions from NARAL. Mayor Rooty received more donations from NARAL than Hillary---a testament to NARAL's trust in Rooty's pro-abortion credentials.

From the FEC database: 04/24/1999 Donations
NEW YORK STATE NARAL INC WOMEN'S HEALTH PAC

NARAL donated exclusively to Democrat candidates with one exception----Rudy Giuliani.

Giuliani accepted $1,000 from NARAL in 1999. NARAL gave $1000---4 times as much-----to pro-abortion Giuliani. Clearly, NARAL trusted Rudy's pro-abortion credentials, and Rudy's willingness to advance NARAL's radical abortion-on-demand agenda, even more than NARAL trusted Hillary. NARAL gave $250 to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Rudy was the honored guest speaker and made The Opening Remarks to the N.A.R.A.L. "Champions of Choice" Luncheon few years back.

NARAL, Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion savages know Rudy is on their side now, and has been from the getgo.

BTW, look for Rooty to have several more "Come to Jesus" moments as we near the primaries---these are temporary blackouts Rooty will conveniently discard should he, by some stinking fluke, get anywhere near our WH.

" P-l-e-a-s-e make me sound conservative."

"Who knew? My stupid advisors told me I didn't need those redneck gun
nuts and dumb Christian conservatives to make a primary showing."

"Man, they're killing me on FR just b/c I had three wives, several mistresses,
was honored by NARAL, donated to Planned Parenthood, and marched
for gay rights under the NAMBLA banner, and appointed gays and
pedophiles to top city jobs."

As someone else pointed out. If Giuliani is a ‘liberal’ (often compared to Hillary by cement heads) then Hillary is in fact Joseph Stalin.

There is no comparison.

I won’t vote for the worst [Rudy], that is not winning.

That just doesn't make sense. If you're speaking of the primaries, vote your conscience. Go ahead. But if you're speaking of next Nov, anything less than full support of the nominee (which could well be Rudy) is just plain dumb. As is destroying his character now during the nomination process, which could backfire and get Hillary elected in Nov when people who have been convinced to hate Rudy stay home.

Campaign for your favorite nominee. But trashing any Republican is a bad idea and will only help Democrats.

This proves what, exactly? That he wouldn't appoint constructionist judges like Alito and Thomas? Or does it prove that he is pro-choice? We knew that.

So what blinders do I have to take off?

I will ask my question again. We know who you are against. We were reprimanded earlier that in order to win elections we have to be "for" something.

I'm trying to find out, who are you for?

Got it...like I said earlier, Jews need not apply.

Oh come off your stupid highhorse... You try to lecture me on how a Christian should be and I point out exactly what our Christian Bible says. If it offends you, so be it.

BTW.. there is millions of Christian Jews, more every day. Jews apply daily. There is no more support for Israel than that given by Christians, and you know it. You may not understand why Christians support Israel so feverently, but most people can't understand why most so called Jews vote for democrats either (JINO). Christians understand the value of supporting Israel, and turning our backs on Israel is not to our advantage. Jesus was born a Jew and under Jewish law, law that true Christians understand are worth defending. Rudy has a track record that spits on the sanity of human life... God doesn't change, he demands we respect human life today as yesterday.

Hunter will support Rudy. He's already said that he will support the nominee. He understands that it is imperative that we win the Presidency.

He's a good man and the guy that has my support. I know...shocking.

however, where we differ is that I WILL support Rudy if he's the nominee. You would rather allow Hillary to become POTUS than support him.

And I believe that to be irresponsible. Two hours and we're still where we started.

I'm full of BS? I'm not the one that thinks Clinton will be a better choice as president than Giuliani. Tell me, how does sitting out the election or voting third party, thereby electing Hillary somehow help the conservative movement?

Principles are good, but you have to be realistic enough to know how to best achieve them. Politics is all about compromise.

We expect conservative candidates to fight against Islam extremists. What other reasons should we vote for them?

None of you have a reason to vote FOR him. We expect all conservative candidates to be a fighter in the WOT...uh...except for Paul.

Hillary is beatable, and people here show their weakness by giving her more credit than they give themselves and what they stand for.

No, if I am going to give it up, I will not be motivated to vote for any liberal on election day.

How many times have we heard this garbage and it has been refuted by Rudy’s own words.

Just read the Rudy truth file at the top of the general page of this site if you do not believe me!

Your sales job is not working!

Rudy is only slightly better than Clinton, just ask him, he has stated that his policies are almost exactly the same as Clinton’s.

If Rudy wins the Primary, Clinton wins the Presidency easily.

Enough people with principles will not vote for Clinton-lite and watch their party and the conservative movement destroyed by Rudy.

"Just remember No Giuliani, No problem."

Okay, I'm down with that. It is Primaries we are talking about BUT!

"We survived 8 years of Bill."

All the good things, the Republicans did and got NO credit for it. And look what he did:

Ginsburg and Breyer, Abortionist and Infanticide supporters that now cite Foreign Law.

Filegate, Hill's obstruction of Justice

FBIgate, Hill getting the dirt.

Whitewater, Crooked land deals

Vince Fostergate, What did he take to the grave?

WACO, mass murder of US citizens.

Bosnia, order US forces to fight on behalf of Muslims, under NATO.

China-gate, just what is it with the Klintons and the Red Chinese? Manchurian Candidate? How many secrets did Bill give them? Did he give them secrets that have compromised us irreperably? How much more will Hill give them? Mr Chu?

Israel, Klinton tried to give away the heart of Israel, stood on the White House Lawn and shook the bloody paw (Shai Ben Tekoa) of Yassir Arafat the Satanic Pedofile Terrorist.

North Korea, Bill gave KJI a Nuke facility with for a piece of paper. NK has Nukes thanks to Bill-Hill.

Osama, Could have got him but didnt. Instead chose Law Enforcement over National Security.

We are talking about the most corrupt, dangerous politcos in the history of the nation. No wonder Militia's were on the rise and ready to go!

I dont know if we really did survive the first Klinton! Maybe the timebomb he started just havent gone off yet! And some here are down with Hillary getting in? To do more of the same but likely worse?

I'm trying to find out, who are you for?

That is simple...

Benjamin Rush (one of our founding fathers) summed it up best for me...

"I am neither (democrat or republican)... I'm a Christocrat" -- Benjamin Rush

I vote knowing this...

Romans 3:8

And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

I vote keeping in mind my damnation is in the balance and that is just for those that don't know Jesus to point out my ways.

I will not vote Rudy... I will NOT do evil just so that perhaps some good might occur from it later on.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light..... Isaiah 5:20

Rudy voted for 44 out of 46 liberal judges while mayor. If you think he will push conservative values and ignore his fruit of his past, then there is nothing I can say past the word.. delusional...

No Giuliani, NO PROBLEM.... Eliminate Giuliani in the primary and we eliminate the Giulaini Problem.

The trend is certainly in that direction.

Mel Martinez's axing and unceremonious departure is proof-positive poseur Republicans are getting our message. Mel's sorry predecessor, Kenny Mehlman, was ushered out the back door after engineering the horrendous 2006 debacle.

Here's Tooty armed with a scrub brush----religiously cleansing the Repub party, dumping so/cons off the party flotilla.

The crucial so/con Republican base will not stand still for Tooty and his Cleansers.

NOW HEAR THIS: The party does it our way.......... or else. Repub candidates across the board will go down to defeat unless our conditions are met. Our demands are these:

(1) Rudy Guiliani withdraws from the 2008 race, at once.

(2) Rudy Giuliani resigns from the Republican Party.

(3) Rudy Giuliani is legally prevented from ever calling himself a Republican or running as a Repub.

The Republican grassroots has jumped the shark on illegal immigration, wanting something that will never happen, and likely would be very damaging to the economy if it did. I'm talking "great depression" kind of damaging, if a rapidly shrinking population where illegals left the country were combined with the rapid aging of the baby boomers and their draw on Social Security.

The Democrat grassroots has jumped the shark on Iraq, wanting something that will probably not happen and would be very damaging to the country.

Interesting times.

No matter who the GOP nominee is, he will be 100x better than what looms for this country should the Socialists take control.

You really should try looking past the R or D after a person's name by considering a candidate's political ideology. Guiliani is as much a socialist as Clinton. Blindly voting for someone based solely on party affiliation has caused the current split in the GOP. In the end you will still have a socialist in the White House

So you sit out the election. Ok. All of us knew there would be stubborn holdouts that will "stand on their principles" even to the extent to help Hillary.

So the question is whether Rudy can draw enough centrists and Democrats to vote for him. I think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll draw more than other Republicans. How much support he loses from the right will determine if Hillary wins.

So you will cash in whatever conservative principles, ethics, morals and beliefs to support the liberal that can “win.” What happens to you when he loses to Hellary? You all who traded your principles, ethics, morals and beliefs will have NOTHING.

Now if Thompson (who I’d vote for) were nominated and also loses, I will have lost along with him just as you would have lost along with Trudy. But I didn’t have to trade my principles, my ethics, my morals or my beliefs.

I’d still have them. What the heck would you have? Who would YOU be? Do you even think of that? Or is the problem that you don’t have the principles, ethics, moral or beliefs other than “winning” to begin with?

And you think I'm a baby raping drug addict why, exactly?

Give up, go ahead.

I'm not the one advocating the division of the Republican party because I don't get my way. Those who do are the one's who are giving up. I will support my party next november no matter who the nominee is.

Neither are socialists, but Hillary is a communist (and hides it well).

Rudy Giuliani Quote (NY Post, 1996) "Most of Clinton's policies are very similar to most of mine."

"Rudy voted for 44 out of 46 liberal judges while mayor."

You might want to check into how judges are nominated in NYC.

But apparently, Rudy is evil. We're evil...only you are good. I'm on a high horse. You're right. Case closed.

Goodnight Gracie...way to have a discussion.

Welcome President Hillary... blame those who voted for Rudy, not those who voted on "principle".

"If he does, it will be the fisrt time he’s ever disappointed me."

He already has said that he will. Prepare to be disappointed.

I will support my party next november no matter who the nominee is.

As I will mine, just mine will not include a vote for a liberal. I may have to write mine in, but that is easy enough.

Yeah, why the hell don’t you waste your time on “centrist sites”.I believe that would make more sense. Centrists are like whores they hate getting screwed but they need the money.

There are no centrist sites. By definition, they don't make up their minds until the last minute, which is why they hold the key to the election.

If Hillary captures it, she wins. If our nominee catches it, he wins.

That is unless those preaching hatred against Rudy manage to split the party to an extent that the centrists don't make up.

How noble and totally unprincipaled. Also a losing mantra.

Hey, have you been to those “centrist” sites yet?

They are waiting for Rooty Rooters to win them over.

Instead of expecting conservatives to vote for a liberal, all those “centrists” are waiting to be courted.

Go for it.
