I was hoping to see Fred step up and he did last night, but when I learned he voted with the trial lawyers and against the doctors he lost my vote. I can’t support a candidate who supports legalized extortion.

So Fred lost your support....ok....which one of the other candidates did he lose it to?

IMHO Hunter could have done better at the debate last night. They asked him questions that he could have taken in a different direction, which could help him break out. He’s stuck in the grove on illegal immigration. I think it was Brit challenged him on that. Illegal immigration is an important issue, but there are also other issues that are just as important. He doesn’t have much that he wants to talk about. Immigration and China trade issues mostly. He isn’t dissapointing on what he does say, but there needs to be more.

Ron Paul hit the nail on the head for medical insurance and the problems everyone is encountering (docs and patients). He’s shrill and I’d have to put cotton in my ears through every State of the Union address, and he sounds like the village idiot on other issues — BUT HE’S OUR IDIOT and the first guy who takes a shot at him will have to duck my ire.

You know what I like about Ron Paul? He's the one guy running who would have the guts to tell us the truth about what's going on at Area 51!

Thompson wasn't a whole lot different this time from last. Both times he did what he needed to do. If he stays on course he will win the Republican nomination.

All this obsession about who best projects energy, likability, and command of the issues is monumentally beside the point. The important lesson of the last two debates is that Thompson is the only serious guy in the race who is selling what Republican’s want to buy. He’s selling it quite well enough so it isn’t hard to predict that most of them will buy it when the time comes to make a real purchasing decision.

Romney is selling an ersatz knockoff of what Republicans want to buy. Unless he can learn to fake sincerity more convincingly he’s toast.

McCain, Giuliani, and Huckabee are selling something else entirely (statism in one of it’s infinite variations). No matter how quickly and smoothly these guys talk, there is no disguising the fact that they are saying the wrong things to win a Republican presidential nomination or to unify the GOP coalition for next fall. This gets clearer with each debate.

Given his place in the field, Thompson wins whenever he debates. Anyone who tells you different is spinning like the proverbial dervish.

Sorry, dearheart, I won’t be voting for Mr. Paul, but I give credit where credit is due. Yes, I believe he’d be the one guy who would give us the “truth” about Area 51, and I also admire his stance on the Constitution. Deep down inside, I also admire his federalist mentality, but times being what they are, I don’t think we’ll be able to go back to the dream that was.

Before you blindly believe what another candidate says about a rival, or ignore Thompson’s response about tort reform, read the facts:

* Legal Reform: Supported legal reform measures with a significant interstate nexus.
o
o Supported Product Liability Reform Measures.
o Voted For “Securities Litigation Uniform Standards Act.”
o Voted For “Private Securities Litigation Reform Act” And Voted To Override President Clinton’s Veto.
o Supported “Y2K Readiness And Responsibility Act” Conference Report.

Supported Passage Of The Republican “Patients’ Bill Of Rights Plus Act” In 1999. The bill included legal protections for patients, as well as tax provisions to increase access to health insurance by reducing the cost of health care coverage.

* Believes Legal Reforms Without A Significant Interstate Nexus Are Best Left To The States. Including medical liability reform and volunteer liability protections.

My son refers to that “duh” look as “remedial”. I have that look from time to time (okay, a lot), and that’s what I hear, “Oh, Mom, you look so, so remedial.” (I was just thrilled that he’d mastered a word with more than one syllable.)

Someone needs to whisper “remedial” in John’s ear.

Some good reviews from established media and blogs.

I agree that FDT did okay in the debate. A little shaky here and there, but overall credible.

How come though, that reviews from established media and blogs are suddenly in vogue? These are the same media whose reviews heretofore have been largely scathing. This as recently as Debate-eve at the FL GOP confab. When posted at FR these reviews have been universally dismissed by Fredheads as biased, incorrect, or selective.

So now we are admitting the good reviews, are the previous scathing reviews admissable as well? Or does the Fredhead filter apply, wherein only good reviews are valid?

Exactly right. It seems that some here believe the candidates are auditioning for host of the Tonight Show. The objective of all this fol-de-rol is not entertainment, but a chance to get to know the candidates.
