The difference myth
Boston Globe ^ | October 28, 2007 | Caryl Rivers and Rosalind C. Barnett

WOMEN ARE THE chatty sex, using three times as many words each day as men. They are society's great communicators. The verbal parts of their brains are larger than men's and they are hard-wired for empathy, but they lack a natural ability to reach the top levels of math and science.

Grade schools are just boring the crap out of boys. Segregating the sexes at this age will take care of the damage that “leveling the playing field” does.

Thanks, ladies. Could one of you make me a sandwich?

Poof - you're a sandwich! ;)

More and more, they are simply coating old-fashioned stereotypes with a veneer of scientific credibility.

Sounds like the Boston Globe is nervous that the carp that their liberal buddies have been shoveling is being found to be just that, carp, and all the changes they've wrought because if it are coming unravelled. Folks have always known that the notion that men and women are exactly the same is ludicrous.

There ARE differences, in the way they learn, and the way they approach things. That doesn't mean that either is better or worse, they're just different. That doesn't mean that ALL women are nurturing types who only want peace, or that all men aren't. It also doesn't mean the no women have the brains for abstract thought, higher math skills and the sciences, because some clearly do.

Even avowed feminists, who had convinced themselves of the 'truth' that we're all alike, were astounded when they had kids of different sexes and realized the folly of trying to force that notion on their kids.

Bull hockey and double bullhockey. I’ve known way more men who are vicious stupid gossips than women.

This is an issue which is a real problem for feminists.

It is particularly a problem if they are right, and that there really is very little difference between males and females. It would mean that females are not really being mistreated that much. Everyone is coming out equal.

Then what is there left for the feminist ideology? They cannot really go on claiming that testosterone makes men evil. (I think that it does actually predispose to violence, but using the statistical claims of this article, it would mean nothing.)

So, the feminist movement should disappear. NOW should be dissolved.

Another group in trouble here is the homosexuals. If there are no significant sex-related brain differences, then how can they claim that their “orientation” is part of their “nature”?

It seems that if the authorities quoted in this article are generally right, then the advocates for more extreme feminist supremacy, and for homosexual exceptionalism, are all wrong. I am glad that my own philosophy is not dependent on working out this mess.

The most incredibly interesting thing about this article is that it is dated for tomorrow...

I’m not clear why the authors find this so hard to understand. There are a great many more low-intelligence and high-intelligence men than women. Intelligence in both men and women graphs as a bell cuve, but the male bell curve is wider and shorter, while the female curve is narrower and higher.

That means there are many fewer women on the extreme high intelligence math and science side. I’ve seen studies indicating the male-female ratio in this very small group is in the 10 to 100:1 area.

When we are talking about this tiny group, the average capabilities of the general male and female groups is comprehensively irrelevant.

IOW, average men and women are approximately equal in their ability to do math and science, but it would not be a good idea to bet a lot of money that the next Einstein or Hawking will be a lady.

Who is better in close combat when the fight is with hand grenades

If I remember correctly, about 50% of female recruits are unable to throw the grenade past the point where it takes the grenadier out. :)

Scientists have turned up some intriguing findings of anatomical differences between the sexes.

Shuuuuuuuush...don't tell anyone.

And these anatomical differences do not include the brain.

Caryl Rivers, journalism professor at Boston University, and Rosalind C. Barnett, senior scientist at the Women's Studies Research Center at Brandeis, are at work on "The Truth About Boys and Girls: How Gender Stereotypes Harm Our Children."

Figures.

Don’t worry, the feminazis will find a way to redefine Einstien’s brand of genius so that a woman can qualify.

"Though boys outnumber girls among top scorers, they also outnumber girls among the lowest scorers. The average score is nearly identical."

See! That proves it.

Boys and girls are equal, but girls are more equal.

.

Simplicity itself.

Everything is equal if you multiply by zero.

Are you still having trouble understanding this? There are TWO kinds of multiplication and TWO kinds of division : Law #1 : Multiplication is repetitive addition(quantity). #2 : Multiplication is vector comparison(quality). #3 : Division is repetitive subtraction(quantity). #4 : Division is vector partition(quality).

Thus, just as there is the duality of wave-particle energies in physics, there is also a quantity-quality duality-relationship in mathematics. You can specify orange-ness, apple-ness, any kind of x-ness you want(Law #2-quality)but if there isn’t ONE OF(Law #1-quantity), what are you talking about?

Simple example : 4 x 5 x 0 is either 20 units of something(lines, areas, fingers and toes, cereal boxes...)or zero unit volumes. What was it you were looking for? Areas or Volumes? You only ASSUME(composed of ASS-U-ME)that the x 0 term is valid in the equation, it may be superfluous, not needed. Thus n x 0 may be EITHER n x 0 = n or n x 0 = 0, both are perfectly valid answers, depending on what you were looking for in the first place.

This Law #1/Law #2 quantity/quality duality-relationship came from my study of Fermat’s Last Theorem : A^n + B^n not=to C^n where n is greater than 2. To wit : 3^2+4^2=5^2; 5^2+12^2=13^2 and so on, the pythagorean series. Then 3^3+4^3+5^3=6^3; 8^3+6^3+1^3=9^3 for the cubic series. Bottom line : you have to ADD the number of vectors on one side to equal the exponent on the other side(1+1=2)(1+1+1=3)(1+1+1+1=4). These are called Diophantine equations, do you know of a 4th power solution to A^4+B^4+C^4+D^4=E^4 ?

Moving on, Law #3 says that 4/0 is 4-0-0-0-0-....-0-0-0-...until hell freezes over and the world wears flat...-0-0-0-....=4! In other words, you are doing NOTHING to a finite number by subtracting an infinite number of zeros from it. Practice on a radish or watermelon with a very sharp knife : demonstrate infinity by slicing zero pieces off..............

Thus, by Law #3, n/0=n. This is the way REALITY works, there is no “infinity”; if you still think there is, suit it up and trot it out here for all to see, a DEMONSTRATION if you please....

Thus, under certain conditions of REALITY, nx0=n=n/0; or you can choose to live in your fantasy world of nx0=0=infinity=n/0. Your choice.
