Rudy a Lefty? Yeah, Right.
The Washington Post ^ | October 28, 2007 | David Greenberg

You wouldn't know it from reading the papers, but the favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination is a confirmed right-winger. On issues such as free speech and religion, secrecy and due process, civil rights and civil liberties, pornography and democracy, this moralist and self-styled lawman has exhibited all the key hallmarks of Bush-era conservatism.

That candidate is Rudolph W. Giuliani.

As any New Yorker can tell you, the last word anyone in the 1990s would have attached to the brash, furniture- breaking mayor was "liberal" -- and the second-to-last was "moderate." With his take-many-prisoners approach to crime and his unerring pro-police instincts, the prosecutor-turned-proconsul made his mark on the city not by embracing its social liberalism but by trying to crush it.

So? The world will not end if she wins. The sun will still rise, and Rino Rudy will still be a liberal worthless sack of bovine droppings. I have 5 issues that are my top ones. Rino agrees with Hitlary on all 5.

“Look...would you rather have the Clintons back for eight years?”

Broken record. Broken record. Broken record. Broken record. Broken Record.

It’s time for you Rooty Tooters to come up with a new excuse to vote for Rooty.

My top issues are guns, abortion, ED, immigration, and US sovereignty. Rino Rudy and her thighness are in agreement on all of these. So I will go third party if he is nominated.

Sure, the sun will still shine and the birds will still sing. But the Fairness Doctrine will shut down conservative talk radio. Campaign finance laws and hate speech laws will shut down web sites like Free Republic. Health care will be nationalized and we'll all be paying for abortions with our tax dollars. And our foreign policy will be set in Beijing. None of this would happen if Rudy becomes President.

> Here’s a NY leftie who really hates Rudy. The article gives a good idea of why some of us here on FR are not totally opposed to him.

Oh please— it’s clear this lib’s standards are to the left of Che Guevara! This ultra-lib probably bitches about Hitlery being too far right as well. Castigation by ultra-liberals is expected to be heaped on 99% of the population. That’s a mighty bit, filthy barrel to choose from, FRiend.

As any real NYer, except this idiot, would KNOW, Rudy Giuliani received the endorsement of NY’s Liberal Party. That’s right: Rudy LEGALLY had “liberal” attached to his name.

Most likely, I can not vote for Rudy McRomney, the rest yes.

We can’t let our own “Clinton Derangement Syndrome” color our judgment. If we do, we’re no better than the moonbats and their BDS.

Yeah, we might have to endure 4 years of another, and probably worse, Clinton. But if we keep compromising our principles, where does it stop? In 2000, I wasn’t happy about Bush, but he was a better choice than Gore. But we’ve seen that he isn’t as conservative as we had been lead to believe. If we compromise on Rudy (who clearly isn’t as conservative as Bush) then what can we look forward to in the next election?

President Bush is as non-conservative as I’m willing to accept. He is the line in the sand.

mccain and romney are both pro-life pro family values. you can’t put rudy in the same sentence with those candidates even if there are good reasons not to support their nomination.

The article gives a good idea of why some of us here on FR are not totally opposed to him.

And outside of Free Republic, there are a whole lot of people who are not totally opposed to him. This could have something to do with that "current GOP frontrunner" status that Giuliani consistently appears to be enjoying.

SOOOOOOO True. But, like Rudy today, I felt like the MSM rammed Bush down our throats.
(BTW, I was a Forbes supporter)

You know, there's not a single GOP candidate running that I can get enthusiastic about. As a New Yorker I appreciate Rudy's role in turning the city around and it's why I kind of like the guy. Romney does nothing for me, Thompson is OK, I guess, and McCain is, well, McCain. And the nominee will be one of those four.

That being said, I will vote for whoever the party nominates. This election is far too important for symbolic gestures of protest.

I really like Duncan Hunter, but he is a dark horse and getting darker. A dang shame. He would make a fine president.

These are crazy times, people.

Look at the four issues I mentioned. Rudy is the opposite of Clinton on all four. And that's just for starters.

Any real New Yorker would also know he endorsed that flaming leftist Mario Cuomo over Republican George Pataki for governor.

Lots of Republicans are ignoring that big stab in the back...
