Citgo distributor says sales lapse By Rick Stouffer TRIBUNE-REVIEW Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Greg Marnell thinks everyone has a right to do business in the United States, even Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. While filing his gas tank at Tyke's Citgo in Monroeville, Marnell said he is aware of Chavez's ties to the gasoline company.

"America's the melting pot, isn't it? Everybody has the right to come here and make money," said Marnell of Monroeville.

But Chavez's increasing anti-U.S. antics may be hurting the oil-rich South American nation at the gasoline pump. So says gasoline distributor Don Bowers, who acknowledges motorists seem to be buying less gasoline from Citgo, a subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A.

"America's the melting pot, isn't it? Everybody has the right to come here and make money," said Marnell of Monroeville.

And Americans have the right to spend their money as they see fit, which includes not supporting a two-bit dictator like Chavez.

According to an email I just got, you’ll want to avoid “Petro Express” like the plauge as well. It seems Citgo is changing the names on it’s stations to boost it’s sagging bushiness.

Citgo is involved in distributing discount-priced home heating oil, a program started last year by Joseph Kennedy, a former Democratic congressman and son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. The nonprofit Citizens Energy, which Kennedy operates, provided 100 million gallons of home heating oil at a 40 percent discount.

A Kennedy can't miss up an opportunity to take a Leftist shot at America, can he?

In Greenwood, In. , a place I often accuse of being out of touch, 2 citgo's this year have changed affiliations.

The first happened about 4 months ago on St rd 135. They actually put a bag over their citgo sign! You could however see it as a shadow. This place went from ghost town to boom town, over night.

You have to love it.

Many of the 7-11’s here in Florida, which are Citgo stations, have removed their Citgo signs totally, but I still avoid them. Your email has been going around for some time and it’s always good to be reminded.

I DO NOT buy Citgo gas, period. Nor do I buy any other brand of gas if the station is full of middle-eastern accents.

I patronize Americans in the way I see fit. Sometimes it costs a bit more to remain true to that, and I willingly pay the extra to put my money where my mouth is. I’m intolerant, LOL.

What’s the story behind Miller?...

Miller sponsored an event in San Francisco with an ad that was very mocking portrayal of the Last Supper with gay and lesbian characters in a very provocative pose. When many Christians objected to this portrayal, Miller pulled it's name from the photo, but continued to sponsor the event. A few, and I don't know how many, stores pulled Miller from their shelves because of it.

Everybody has the right to come here and make money," said Marnell of Monroeville.

Before it's all said and done, being able to live without fear of someday dieing will be a right considered worthy of a lawsuit.

This "rights" thing has gotten waaaay over used to the point of the word being rendered complacent when placed in Constitutional terms.

Could be, and possibly is, true, but many of the 7-11's in Florida are still sporting the Citgo gas signs. I know that when all of the BS with Chavez happened, 7-11's in the state announced that they were not going to carry Citgo anymore, but it seems it is taking quite a long while to change. I still won't go to a 7-11 for gas and I spend about $40 a day on gas.

According to Snopes.com:

Both Circle K and Petro Express are privately-owned chains of convenience stores, the former an international property of Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard, and the latter based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Neither is owned by Citgo or the Venezuela government. Although Petro Express outlets did sell Citgo gasoline, the company announced in October 2006 that the chain was phasing out sales of Citgo Petroleum Corp. gasoline and by 2007 would no longer be vending the brand.

Snoopes Confirmed. They are changing name to Petro Express. Buyer beware!!

Snopes confirmed THE OPPOSITE!!!

In October 2006, the following e-mail about Citgo and Petro Express began circulating:

CITGO, BEING AWARE THAT GASOLINE SALES ARE DOWN DUE TO U.S. CUSTOMERS NOT WANTING TO BUY FROM "CHAVEZ".... HAVE BEGUN CHANGING THE NAME OF SOME OF THEIR CIRCLE K STORES IN TEXAS & OKLAHOMA...AND POSSIBLY OTHER PLACES AS WELL, TO: "PETRO EXPRESS"

THEREFORE, DO NOT BUY FROM "PETRO EXPRESS", ...NOR CITGO....

"PETRO EXPRESS" IS ALSO 100% OWNED BY "CHAVEZ" ....

It is not uncommon for independent stations and chains to switch fuel suppliers from time to time. Occurrences of independents' dropping Citgo in favor of other suppliers are often misinterpreted by the public as attempts on Citgo's part to "switch names" in order to fool consumers into continuing to purchase Citgo gasoline.
