"As long as we stay on the offense, they will be on the defense. Al Qaeda is being eradicated throughout the middle east. They are on the decline"

Sorry, those were my words. I was responding to a poster, not quoting GW. GW did make similar comments with the same interpretation though. Great speech!

Maybe because they practically assaulted the Secretary of State?

They have not destroyed his presidency. The only one who can do that is the president himself (witness Clinton)

This president is a man in the truest sense of the word. He has conviction and purpose and unlike the average and greater majority of politicians is not swayed from them by public sentiment ginned up by biased polls. Clearly he is fighting for this country’s very existence and despite the pathetic power mongers on the left he will see his plan through until he leaves the job. It is his leadership that so infuriates the media and the spineless on the left because they see in him someone they could never hope to be, a principled and totally dedicated individual.

His legacy will not be written for many years yet and I have no doubt as to how good it will be. Compare this to what that of the former president is shaping up to be.

Why are foreign wars the only things Bush comprehends when it comes to fighting terror? Why isn’t he announcing new proposals to secure the borders, and denouncing Elliot Spitzer for attempting to subvert American security? I agree with him on Iraq, with the exception of the degree of force (we have been far too gentle), but it seems to me he has little clue when it comes to the homefront.

Or does anyone know if President Bush’s speech will be shown again? So sorry I missed it! Thanks!

President Bush has given many excellent speeches throughout his presidency which echo these themes today.

Paleo conservatives and liberals commonly bemoan his lack of legitimate rhetoric. These claims are demonstrably false.

President Bush has done an awesome job on the WOT. It is ridiculous that those of us who support the President are subject to left right radical bashing.

Islamofascism does seek to kill both Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. Freedom of speech makes it necessary that we suffer their rhetoric as if it is reasonable. Withdrawal and isolation are at best slow suicide strategies.

I find the “finally he speaks out” meme intriguing.

He has consistently said these things, but paleos and anti war radicals deny it for various reasons.

Thank you President Bush for your awesome leadership.

I said “helped”. I am well aware of the damage this man has done to himself by being silent, spending too much, never using his veto pen, illegal immigration etc...but the world view has been tainted not by his actions per-say but by those who have spent nearly a billion dollars since he took office trashing him and making him into the next Hitler.

Code Pink and MoveOn.org are threats to national security and it is about time he called them out by name.

I wonder if this was announced in advance. I would have loved to be there to hear the president. I have not agreed with him on every issue but I have admired his tenacity and willingness to continue to fight the enemy even if it has brought him tremendous scorn. I expect to make the trip to DC for the Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington Cemetery next week in the hope that GWB will speak, though there is no guarantee he will be there. Any other FR members going to attend? I went in 2005 when VP Cheney spoke and it was a great event.

Jrooney, thanks for that. See, while I too am an immigration hawk, I know better than to pollute every single “potentially” related threads with the topic.

Excellent, this is a prelude speech for other speeches coming in the next three months that talks more clearly about VICTORY, that we have won the war, and that AL Qaeda and their allies have been utterly defeated.

Well, The Heritage Foundation is a bit more than slightly to the right on the political spectrum.

"We are here to talk about the speech, not the fence. Grow up and quit trying to hijack the thread. "

I agree in spades! Seemingly, some are so juvenile that they have to spam every thread with their favorite causes, and it really is out of place and EXTREMELY tiresome.

The government must be doing something right because we have not been attacked on our soil since 9/11. That is huge because al Qaeda would attack us if they could.

First off, AQ plans it's major operations over a period of several years and when they do launch it's usually in a series of four or five in sequence just like Sept. 11th. There is ample evidence that planning for the Sept 11th attacks began in 1994 after their first failed attempt.

Also I differentiate between the government and the administration. Politicians spin events to make themselves look good. But it's the Jack Bauers of our intelligence and special ops communities that truly are the heroes who keep us safe. If they feel torture is necessary to prevent an attack, I say God Bless 'Em! Everynight before they go to bed, the terrorists check their closets to make sure Jack Bauer and Chuck Norris aren't present.
