Pat Robertson Endorses Giuliani for President
NY Times ^ | November 7, 2007 | MICHAEL COOPER and DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK

Posted on 11/07/2007 3:05:16 PM PST by neverdem

Rudolph W. Giuliani scored a coup today by winning the support of Pat Robertson, who, as one of the nation’s best-known televangelists, could help Mr. Giuliani reassure Republicans who are wary of his support for abortion rights and gay rights.

Mr. Robertson, the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, said in endorsing Mr. Giuliani in Washington, that he believed “the overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the blood lust of Islamic terrorists” and praised Mr. Giuliani as a “true fiscal conservative.”

While Mr. Robertson did not mention Mr. Giuliani’s support of abortion rights, he said approvingly that Mr. Giuliani “has assured the American people that his choices for judicial appointments will be men and women who share the judicial philosophy of John Roberts and Antonin Scalia,” who have argued against Roe v. Wade.

The endorsement comes just a month after a coalition of other prominent Christian conservatives threatened to back a third-party candidate if Mr. Giuliani were to become the Republican Party’s presidential nominee. The support of Mr. Robertson could not only help Mr. Giuliani present himself as a viable candidate to the Christian right, but could also help him improve his standings in Iowa: Mr. Robertson finished second in the Iowa caucuses during his own run for president in 1988.

And the announcement threatened to overshadow an important conservative endorsement being announced by Senator John McCain of Arizona — the backing of Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, who recently ended his own bid for president. While Mr. McCain opposes abortion rights, he has sometimes been viewed with suspicion by anti-abortion groups who felt muzzled by the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law that he helped pass, so the endorsement by Mr. Brownback, a staunch social conservative, was seen as an important achievement...

Laura Ingraham On Pat Robertson Endorsing Rudy Giuliani

Oh, man, Laura is awesome. Pat's gonna get a "Throw Momma From The Train" cameo once Rudi has no more use for him.

You gotta love a blunt woman like Laura. She nails it!

He told a recent NRA convocation that September 11, 2001 made him change his mind about gun control, IIRC.

Are you sure? Or was that just his "wife" (campaign handlers) spoonfeeding him those lines from a cell phone?

“If Rudy follows through on his promise to appoint Supreme Court justices in the mold of Scalia, Roberts, and Thomas, then I don’t care what Rudy’s personal beliefs are.”

That’s one hell of a big “if.”

What if he appoints Ginsburg clones? Would you then back an actual conservative against him in 2012?

I think Pat is a smarter man than most people on FR who constantly bash him.

True, he deserves to be bashed hard on his weird prophecies, but he has accomplished quite a lot in his lifetime. For a man to create a conservative media empire in the middle of the liberal wasteland of media is no small feat; and his education of rank-and-file christians on political issues has been monumental over the last decades thru the christian coalition and his media pipeline. For these works he should be commended, notwithstanding the incessant hatred he's faced from the liberals and the conservatives like those on FR who follow their lead.

Pat's opinion shouldn't be discounted IMO. I find it very interesting that he's endorsing Giuliani. Huge plus for Rudy IMO.

How can anybody trust anything this power hungry BS artist says

He didn't realize what the 2nd amendment was about till 911

What BS

His 911 crap is equivalent to Kerry's serving in Vietnam

The primaries are the play off’s - Your team win’s or doesn’t

The Super Bowl, Well thats the confrence ... Some what like minded people have to Govern. I hope it’s our side. What will you do ?

-—”Pat’s opinion shouldn’t be discounted IMO. I find it very interesting that he’s endorsing Giuliani. Huge plus for Rudy IMO.”-—

Pat endorsed Dole in the GOP Primaries in 1996, Bush Sr. in 1992. In fact, he’s endorsed the most Socially Liberal Republican candidate in every election since Reagan - during the primaries, not just the General Election. He all but endorsed Rudy911 for President as far back as 2004 - this is no surprise. He has always believed the more Liberal the GOP candidate, the better his chances.

He opposed the Clinton Impeachment, opposes the Death Penalty, believes in Man-Made Global Warming,.........I mean seriously, the man is not a “Conservative.” You seem to confuse “Republican and Preacher” with “Conservative.”

He’s never been a very Conservative Republican, neither is his media outlet.

And for all of the achievements you point out as positives - they are all meaningless if he’s willing to sell out every principle he’s preached just because he really hates Hillary.

I think less of Pat after this, not more of Rudy911.

And I will still never, ever - under ANY circumstance - EVER vote for Rudy911. So help me God. To hell with the Grand New Party if Rudy911 gets the nod.

As long as Republicans continue to allow the lamestream media to set who is best, who is the front-runner, and who we should vote for, this is what we get.

I’m for ignoring the media and getting behind who has the best conservative values.

Only one candidate fits, Duncan Hunter.

It is up to us to vote a true conservative in and ignore the spoon fed pablum the media throws at us. Otherwise, we get what we get.

Actually, the stupidest thing I see here is the following:

1.) The Democrats hate Rudy911.
2.) Conservatives hate Rudy911.
3.) Somehow, this translates into electoral victory in the minds of the Rudophiles. Go figure.

I’ll never vote for Rudy911, under any circumstance, EVER - So help me God.

I've lost a lot of respect for Robertson. He's been a little screwy before(can't think of specifics now) but at the very least, he should have kept his mouth SHUT! At least wait until there is more of a frontrunner. (Hopefully a real Conservative)

I’m especially disappointed in Brownback. Does the pro-ILLEGAL immigration issue trump the LIFE issue for Brownback?

The LEAST Robertson could have done was wait until after the primaries.

While I don’t especially care for Pat Robertson, I figured we were on the same page on the life issue.

Pat Robertson joined the chorus in saying that even though Rudy belives in abortion, the only thing that matters is the WOT.

Somebody tell me, can’t a person be pro-life and still be excellent on fighting the WOT?

In fact, Rudy would be the WORST candidate to fight the WOT, because he is so pro-ILLEGAL immigration, and Rudy has no military experience, like Duncan Hunter.

I do hope Rudy is voted out of the primaries.

Since when do politicians keep all of their promises?

I don’t trust him to pick pro-life, conservative judges, because presidents always at least TRY to pick a nominee that matches their ideology.

Even Rudy admitted this when he said:

“Presidents, going back to the beginning of the republic, generally appoint people on the Supreme Court that they believe agree with them.”
