Bratton Endorses Spitzer Driver’s License Plan (Giuliani wants Bratton as Homeland/Security/Sec)
NY TIMES ^ | October 22, 2007 | Sewell Chan

Posted on 11/10/2007 1:35:05 PM PST by Liz

EXCERPT William J. Bratton, former NYC police commissioner under Mayor Giuliani endorsed Gov Spitzer's plan to license illegals. Chief Bratton was NYC police commissioner from 1994-96, during the first term of Mayor Giuliani, but the two men famously feuded, with Giuliani resentful that Mr. Bratton — a pioneer of the city’s Compstat program — was getting credit for the city’s reduction in crime.

In March 2007, Giuliani began trying to mend fences with Bratton and met privately; afterward, Mr. Bratton said he “enjoyed” the tête-à-tête.

In May 2007, the two men met in Los Angeles.

In a statement released by Spitzer’s office, Chief Bratton said: As former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department and now Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (since 2002), I support efforts that have the potential to solve crimes and improve traffic safety. That’s why I backed legislation in California that would give undocumented immigrants the ability to get a driver’s license once they have provided proof of their identification. It is my belief that by doing that you would reduce the number of hit and runs and increase the number of insured motorists on the road. We would also now have undocumented immigrants’ identifying information on record such as photographs and addresses which could prove helpful in the fight against crime and terrorism.

...... (Giuliani's plan to appoint an illegals license pusher)......is sort of like his promise to appoint contructionist judges.....

LOL----nice analogy. Puts the Rudester's "campaign promises" in sharp relief.

New York, another border that should be sealed!

Ahem, most of NYS's counties are red, pard :)

And even a lotta folks in the blue bits have seen the light on this issue.

This is an issue that transcends party. As 'Rats and RINOs are discovering the hard way.

Republicans AND Democrats who come down on the wrong side of the issue will feel the voters' wrath.

80% of Americans oppose illegal licensing.

One of the rare consensus issues that unites all segments of the political spectrum.

What? Are you saying out-of-context quotes, guilt by association, and cut-and-paste Frankenstein postings are unfair? Welcome to FR, sir!

The 9/11 Commission found that 15 of the 19 Sept 11 hijackers had 63 validly issued U.S. driver’s licenses between them.

Eight of them were registered to vote.

These identification documents gave the hijackers unfettered access to nearly everything they needed to plan and carry out attacks on Washington, D.C. and NYC.

And the identification cards also allowed them to remain in the country with the appearance of legitimacy long after their visas had expired and their presence in the United States became illegal.” Cong, Ed Royce—December 7, 2004.

"Pass the word-———Giuliani says he will appoint as Homeland/Security/Sec) the police chief who Endorses Spitzer Driver’s License Plan."

That is so much utter total BS that even I'm shocked at it's audacity. Nowhere, by any shape or form, does this article say that Giuliani will appoint Bratton as Home Security Secretary. Here's the money quote for the lurkers...

"He has taken to fence-mending as well, initiating a rapprochement with his former police chief, William Bratton, who is now running the L.A.P.D. A few days after they conferred, Giuliani told me that he could even imagine working with Bratton again some day."

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/08/20/070820fa_fact_boyer

Oh, and just for fun from the same article...

"It is also possible that the rest of the country knows all it wishes to know about Giuliani. It was Giuliani who was depicted in the Times as imposing “the mores of Mayberry” on the city. Stephen DiBrienza, the former City Councilman, says, “All the things that a lot of New Yorkers, myself included, hate about this guy are the things that are actually fuelling his campaign.”"

I won't bother to ask you to retract this lie. It would be a total waste of time.

LOL-----you got that right.

Wonder when Bratton found out he fell headlong into into Spizter's taco-baited trap. Musta been lotsa weeping and gnashing of teeth. ROTFLOL.

Fun stuff to see Bratton stupidly falling all over himself, doing the Hyphenare Fellate Samba.

Bratton acts like licensing illegals is Holy Writ.

Even funnier is Rudy trying to make nice with Bratton to advance his political ambitions.

The stupid Rudester clearly promised Bratton the Homeland/Sec job to lure the policeman into his lair.

>>”you don’t pull over anyone because you think you may have to deport them.”<<

Why do they even bother? Deportation means not a d*mned thing without a fence and secure border.

(Thanks for the ping, Liz!)

As they should. Hillary will never live down support for it even when Eliot Mess rescinds his lunacy.

I'll wait to see Guliani's answer if he is asked by the press or in the next debate whether he agrees with Bratton's position.

Giuliani's position on illegals as Mayor of New York was the same as the one Bratton is articulating here. I'm sure he will say he disagrees, now. But why would you believe him?
