This is ridiculous. We need to know each states laws.

Why can’t cities and states deputize citizens?

Can we make citizens arrests if we sign something not holding local law enforcement responsible?

I would be surprised if they had even one in fifty hispanics that were illegal.

If it was a large apartment complex job by a framing contractor it might be one out of each two hispanics.

Would you prefer our own citizens getting the job?

Are you worried about them getting hurt outside of their country... not the rapes, DUIs and other wonderful crime spikes they will surely get in TN towards our citizens?

Even business has ethics. If they can’t do it the right way, they shouldn’t be in business... period.

Aunt B, I have seen large jobs in rural areas where almost all construction, large or small, was non-union. There was no union tradesmen work force to hire from.

When a large job is being built it draws the best that will come for a season at wages from 20 percent to 80 percent higher but many good craftsmen don’t leave their local job because they know the project will end in a year.

So when the local workforce has been drained of available workers the “boomers” or travelers are hired. Some unskilled locals are hired too, but many can’t do the work or show up at 6:30 each day.

I had a painting sub show up with twenty hispanics out of south Texas. The hispanic foreman and about four leadmen spoke english. The rest were normally speaking spanish. They were ALL here legally or citizens. They were checked by ICE.

Turns out the foreman was a rabid conservative as well and we spoke for hours about Democrat corruption in Texas.

For hundreds of years immigrants have supplimented our biggest construction booms doing the toughest jobs. That is why you see so many ethnic firms with a long tradition at one trade. Italian masons, polish glaziers, irish and swedish carpentry families that become Generals.

If not immigrants then indian tribes. The reason some high steel setters are called Mohawks is that many were.

Are there contractors that hire illegals? Yes. But few of the big dogs do but a good percentage of who they have as valued hard working employees are immigrants.

That is determined by who applies, passes a drug test, shows up consistantly, works hard, works safe and follows directions.

Many big construction firms have a mix that varies based upon the regional workforce. For example it would be impossible to build a project of over 20 million in Miami, Houston, or Phoenix without having the jobsite have fifty percent hispanics in most cases.

There is nothing to indicate these were illegal workers.

It could be, and who are you to say that’s wrong or distasteful or unAmerican. It is the inevitable trend of demographics so you better get used to it and accept the fact that 99% of Mexican immigrants work their asses off for a fraction of what you were given at birth.

I just visited Texas and was surprised (or rather shocked) to see that even the menus in restaurants such as IHOP are both in English and Spanish. I was even told that there are several restaurants where if you don't speak Spanish then you can't get service at.

On more than one occasion while I was there I didn't recognize what was being said around me. But what was even more disturbing is that there seemed to be a sense of arrogance and what can perhaps best be described as an "ethnic chauvinism" among the Spanish speaking people that was never there before. It was as if they didn't care anymore or were not concerned to assimilate or to speak English, but it was deeper than that... they seemed to feel justified or protected for refusing to assimilate.

I went to one store near downtown and was ignored by the Spanish speaking sales staff as they helped the Spanish speaking people around them. I stood there waiting and then just gave up.

I blogged about an experience at the bank that might shock you - they no longer accept US government identification, but they will accept Mexican government identification.

For the first time in my life I felt like I was in a foreign country by returning home, but even that is not accurate... You see if I would have went to Mexico instead of Texas, the Spanish speaking people there would at least try to speak to me and serve me. They would make an attempt to speak English and the banks and shops in Mexico would have gladly accepted my US passport as an ID.

From having lived in a multicultural society, I can say from experience that the rising ethnic chauvinism among immigrants (illegal or legal) is the destroyer or peace and harmony and when the winds shift it will get bloody. When that happens there will be two paths to take and both will be unpleasant. Either Americans will fight or they will have to accept certain restrictions to liberty and freedom in order to keep the peace.

Shocking isnt it?

The Mexican illegal aliens are pouring into TN because they can get welfare, food stamps, free ERs, free schooling (in Spanish) and other free hand-outs and just sit and laugh at the American workers who pay for it all..

The problem is a lot of people who SPEAK Spanish can’t READ Spanish!

Yes, but they are far fewer than that number of english speakers in the U.S. who cannot read english.

If that is the case, then the Spanish speaking construction workers in Tennessee must be U.S. citizens.

Say HUH?

Many of the Spanish speaking illegal aliens only have a miniscle education at best...

They bearly read Spanish let alone English...They do not value education for themselves or their children...is no

Most Americans read and write English very well..Our education system until the last few years was excellent...

To become a US citizen an immigrant must be able to speak, read and write ENGLISH...

These Spanish only speakers are not Americans...

Here it is again. There are more people in the U.S. that speak English but cannot read English than there are people that speak Spanish and cannot read Spanish.

Are there no American construction workers who would like to work in these jobs?

Of course there are. But illegals have depressed the wages in the sectors that they've taken over so that Americans can't afford to work for so little. After all, Americans have to pay taxes, pay for health care, and don't get welfare and food stamps while earning a living.
