Many shows, esp. cop shows and “House,” feature women giving orders to the men. Consider “Law and Order, SVU”-—female (black) captain in many of the episodes; “NCIS,” Lauren Holly plays the “Director” in charge of the outfit; “Shark” (first season)Jeri Ryan was Stark’s boss; and on all these shows, the chics are gun-toting toughies-—CSI, Criminal Minds, Numbers, and many others.

Have you never had a women boss? I have. I guess you started at the top right away. Lucky you I guess. In fact having a women boss is funny because they are always harder on the women. Women don’t get away with ANYTHING and it is funny to watch.

This has been going on for years. On TV commercials it is always the woman or some minority that saves the idiotic white guy from destroying something.

White Guys do rule when it comes to being couch potatoes though!

We really don’t watch much TV either.

But with a teen daughter, we will be watching the new “Project Runway.” They have a new season that started last night. And we are waiting for the next ‘24’ season.

Otherwise, it is start up the DVD, and watch what we want to watch. We just finished LOTR this past weekend. It was a wonderful family time.

Yeah...no one wants to see a show about the life of an everyday man.

If cameras followed my husband around on what is deemed a “normal” day for him, they’d lose interest fast. His work ethic, love of family, and community contribution (firefighter) are too noble.

South Park. King of the Hill. Seinfeld. And God help me, I watch ‘Kitchen Nightmares” with Gordon Ramsey (trying to rehab terrible restaurants).

“Yep my wife and I are watching Perry Mason-1st season and its great.”

I was bored with that show as a kid (I am 42, so it was re-runs when I first saw it), but I really like it now. I feel the same way about the Columbo reruns.

I didn’t even knew this show existed....”sex and the City for men”...I think I will continue to ignore it.

King of Queens also doesn’t have the women characters being perfect or always being right. The guys can be right.

I have show like Green Acres, Hogan’s Heroes, etc on DVD.
As for movies, I have movies where the men are men and the women are women (and that doesn’t mean that they are “weak”).

The Brinks home alarm system commercials are the worst. Every time a man is in the commercial, he’s basically HIDING BEHIND HIS WIFE while she talks to the Brinks security alarm center.

And if they were honest, the guy wouldn’t calm the woman down by saying ‘I’m sending help right now!’.

He’d say ‘I’m sending the CSI team to document the exact position the police are going to find your body....”

I shudder to think what a new Perry Mason would look like.

John Edwards.

My wifes theory is that the appeal of Homer has done in the father/male...
Watch the cosby show or others from the 80’s. Most of the time the father was wise, caring, strong, and in charge..

This is supposed to be new? In the 50’s sitcoms the husband was definitely in charge with the wife always in a supporting role and sometimes appearing to be the more moderating figure to the husbands aggressive ‘get it done”approach. Many wives were portrayed as a bit loony such as Lucy and Gracie Allen.

Men today are portrayed as crotch grabbing, sports addicted beer drinkers whose idea of a good time is offering a finger to be pulled on which would illicit a fart from th pullee.

Most men today are totally “pussified” and it ain’t a pretty thing to see. When I was growing up in th 1950’s all it took from my Mom, if I misbehaved (saying no to a parent was misbehaving)was her saying “wait till your Father gets home”. It was way more then enough to set me to shivering in anticipation of what was to come. The worst punishment was the leather belt across the back of my legs. I experienced this no more then 3-4 times and the very thought kept me in line (almost all the time).

People today are either afraid of their kids or try to be their friends. Look what It has brought us. IMO kids have NO rights until they reach 18 and at that point they leave the house, go to college and work their way through at least in part, or if remaining at home they contribute at least 50% of their salary (they WILL have a job or else it’s hit the road time).

I was never a “friend”to my kids and had no interest in being one. Kids have their own friends and need authority figures (parents) to set up the structured environment they need to grow up with a sense of purpose and the respect for tradition and values that is so lacking in todays youth.

Bottom line is a swift kick in the ass is worth any number of counseling sessions.

I think you just created the premise for the perfect TV show, at least in the mind of modern TV executives.

Except when they were getting in trouble with their wives. On Cosby the running gag was his giant sandwiches filled with unhealthy stuff that he had to sneak in, most episodes Cosby screwed things up by trying too hard and it was Claire’s even tempered approach that fixed the problem. Then in the spin-off college show all the guys were dumb. Then there’s Family Ties where the father was a complete idiot every other season (and kind of smart but not as smart as his wife in the rest).

Really dumb guys go all the way back on TV. Who was the smartest character on The Honeymooners? Alice. Even on the Andy Griffith Show Aunt Bee was generally more competent than Andy. There’s really nothing even slightly new about this.
