Why doesn’t Seattle give the city back to the American Indians?

Make a nice spot for a bunch of casinos. Knock down a bunch of coffee shops and music clubs.

Indians, you can call the shots when it’s your land again. That is to say, never.

“The letter also asks teachers to understand that Thanksgiving is a “time of mourning” for many Indian people and a “reminder of 500 years of betrayal.”

I don’t know about that. The Seminole Tribe here is Florida is thriving for the most part with their reservations and gambling casinos. TAX FREE! You should see some their wild trucks and the clothes, forget about it!

Hmmmm.

I’ve always enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday with all the trappings. The food, the gathering of friends and family, football, pie and coffee.

Now I get to enjoy knowing politically correct idiots are unhappy too?

Wow. Another thing to be thankful for.....

We should have only one holiday.

That holiday should be called: WeSuck Day.

We sit around all day, apologizing to every nation, people, and religion for every wrong, real or imagined.

We pool all our resources, and give them all away.

Then we all commit suicide out of shame for who we are, as a nation and individually.

The letter tells school district staff that the holiday is seen by many Native Americans as a "time of mourning."

Is this the next KWANZAA of sorts?

"In terms of what they were seeing in some of the use of the feathers and those things because those are of spiritual and ceremonial significance to us," said Willard Bill, Seattle Public Schools.

No wonder we kicked their butts and took their land ;-)

Thanksgiving Day according to solid history was a time when different peoples joined together.

The Holiday is about Thanking God, but if someone wishes to publicize a political side of it, that is the true political side.

The Natives and Whites were together in peace that day. That is a fact.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

Hopefully, Nov 5, 2008 will be a day of mourning for these wombats.

I hate whiny weenies.

“For the past three years, the Seattle School District has sent a letter to teachers and staff, telling them “Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for many native students.””

No it’s not, unless they are indoctrinated to think it so.

The first Thanksgiving was a harvest celebration that the Indians of Massachusetts participated in with the Pilgrims.

"Thanksgiving is a "time of mourning" for many Indian people and a "reminder of 500 years of betrayal."

This PC is totally out of control. ANY person can pick ANY day as their "time of mourning", couldn't they?

I'm picking Labor Day as my personal "day of mourning", it is a reminder of 8 hours a day of work to help pay for all the welfare people in my state, who are too lazy to support themselves.

“VAE VICTUS” - (Woe to the Vanquished).

FR (and the world at large)is full of people who love to hold a grudge over all kinds of slights, no matter how small of old.

Indians are no different.

The Indian casino business in the Western Washington corridor is a thriving business. It is also a major political player in state policy and the control of political pockets. No wonder these school teachers are playing the native American card. It is their Ace card for more money for the school district.
