After Columnist Bob Novak Suggests Alleged Scandal Saturday , November 17, 2007 Hillary Clinton's campaign insisted Saturday it is not sitting on any scandalous information about rival Barack Obama, after conservative columnist Robert Novak wrote that the Democratic frontrunner was holding on to a secret that could wound Obama's campaign.

Novak wrote in a three-paragraph item Saturday that "agents of Sen. Hillary Clinton are spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent for the party's nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, but has decided not to use it."

Novak wrote that the nature of the alleged scandal is not known but "this word-of-mouth among Democrats makes Obama look vulnerable and Clinton look prudent."

Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said "we have absolutely no idea what he's talking about. ... We have no contact with Bob Novak; we have no idea what this column is based on."

Asked if the campaign had any secret information about Obama, he said, "No. No, we don't."

The Clinton camp might not have any, but I surely do.

For the time being, we need to concentrate on Hillary though, and if the need arises which I think it won't, Obama's boat can be sunk in one shot.

As politics goes (politics in the nastiest sense), this was a brilliant stroke.

Novak has been called a liar. Let's see how he responds. He's a tough guy and journalists don't like being called liars or being used as pawns. I think/hope we'll hear more from him.

If something does come out about Obama down the road, and it's not from Hillary, everyone will think it was because of this. It inoculates Obama, IMO.

This might help Hillary in the short term, which might be all she needs to take Iowa, but it could prove to be a bad strategy long term.

Camp Clinton may be using terrorist tactics. They call in a bomb scare, just to check out the response. If that the case, Obama seems very weary of getting unloaded on.
