Political Operatives
Observation | 11/21/2007 | Mariner

Posted on 11/21/2007 9:56:30 PM PST by Mariner

I have observed several times in the last couple of weeks a "newbie" tearing down a GOP candidate.

I'm not one to want to suppress political advocacy...either a candidate or a position. I'm not even opposed to negative campaigns based on personal attacks.

I'm AM opposed to what APPEARS to be paid political operatives, signed up to Free Republic within the last couple of months, trashing a GOP candidate of any persuasion or flavor.

If Jim Robinson wants to tear down Candidate X because he thinks he's a silly-assed commie queer, that's ok. He's been here for about 15 years. Heck, he own this site.

However, somebody who signed up last week posting dozens of negative comments...often slickly and well researched...well, I gotta wonder.

Jim, do you want campaign operatives on this site tearing down GOP candidates? Would you consider a rule that if somebody hasn't been here for 3 months (or whatever), they can't go negative?

No, I don't have any proof. All I have is a dozen years experience on this site. We've seen it before.

I’ve seen it too. At times they can be vexing, but FreeRepublic seems able to handle them. I’ve also seen some noobs bring fresh energy to the forum (as well as some “seasoned citizens” who appear to have gone ‘round the bend).

Politics is messy, and it’s bound to get messier. All in all I think we’re doing fine...

"(as well as some “seasoned citizens” who appear to have gone ‘round the bend)."

I gotta be me... I gotta be me... Oh Lord it's hard ta be humble, when yer perfect in every way!!! (snort!)

It's just awful when somebody gits their feelers hurt and starts yellin "Naughty, naughty, musn't do... That's another foul on yew!" I say just shun the offending dipstick! He/she just bores everybody ta tears with that tripe anyways!!!

Every time we have another "purge" around here, some more of my FRiends either retire from FR, or get pitched over the side. Many times I don't agree with all their rotten opinions, but I still miss them and the color they bring to an increasingly monotone site... you dig???

Could possibly someone’s frustration with a current candidate is what made them seek out others of like mind? (Goodness, I know that's an awkward sentence.)

Operatives are doing a lot of posting of late. The preferred and most prevalent method is to pose negatives the way Mark Antony did . Here’s an example of a recent sign up doing that (member since April, 2007):

“Possibly he didn’t call Steph (regarding the lie that Terri Schiavo was brain dead) a liar because he didn’t know. … If as you stated it was news to Fred, why was it news? Fred had to know this question was coming having already been asked a similar question in FL a month or so ago. Seems like he would have armed himself a bit better, and had a response worked out.”

When challenged to explain how Fred could anticipate Steponallofus spittling out a lie, the poster responds with:

“Fred knows how this game is played. Having been asked about this issue previously, he should have been better prepared, instead he gives the MSM more fodder that he’s out of touch, too old, too lazy....take your pick. … Sorry that’s the way it works. If FDT wants to get out in front, he’s going to have to anticipate this kind of thing from the MSM, and if he can’t manage that...then he’s toast.”

We see numerous Romney operatives spitting the idea that Fred is slow, old, feeling down from his lymphoma, or too disinterested to run a campaign with energy enough to defeat the Rodham-rodent. Frankly, whomever the GOP puts up against the Rodent will win because of Hatellary’s negatives. So this sowing speciopus crap is purely political operatives doing their work. I’m tired of being ‘a test site for measuring conservative reactions.’

You're correct.

I didn't want to open with it, but I suspect it's ROMNEYITES.

Some paid, some just true believers.

Good for them. However, I don't think it's right to use a discussion site every bit as important to the republic as the discussion of the Federalist Papers, to tear down other candidates and boost their own.

These folks are new and using this site to destroy the opposition.

The man DOES have an army.

Good job.

Sadly, you've not yet been able to grasp the truth emotionally. But you've got the facts on Fred right at your fingertips -- slow, too old, too disinterested, etc.

What about the ones that have been here for years that are political operatives. We’ve had more than a few.

Ah...that classic complaint of true-believers: "We're being invaded by disruptors!" And, surprise, surprise, the disruptors just happen to have been sent by the campaign that is in the most dominant position at the moment and threatening to your faltering candidate, although it certainly is not over.

Paranoia strikes deep.

You know, Pissant, I have not embraced you candidate, that good man Duncan Hunter.

But you are needed to help squelch the pathetic whining of those who -- with all their heart and soul -- fell in behind the Tennessee Dud and now think it is everyone else's fault that he is doing so pathetically.

The MSM's agin, him FoxNews is agin him, George Will and other respected conservative pundits are agin him, and the army -- tens of thousands of them -- sent over from the MittWit camp to plague us....it is just too much to bear.
