CNN Defends Its Use of Democratic Supporters in Republican YouTube Debate
Fox News ^ | November 29, 2007 | Major Garrett

Posted on 11/29/2007 2:40:33 PM PST by greyfoxx39

After spending the day facing accusations it stacked the deck against the Republican presidential contenders by having Democratic backers ask video questions during its debate, CNN on Thursday responded that it doesn't know what the fuss is all about.

The cable news network, in collaboration with video Web site YouTube, hosted the Wednesday night debate that had more than 30 voters pose questions to the Republican candidates. It later turned out that several of those questioners are actively supporting Democratic candidates.

"The whole point of these ground-breaking CNN/YouTube debates is to focus on substantive questions of concern to real people and to throw open the process to a wider range of Americans all around the country. CNN cared about what you asked, not who you were. This was the case for both the Democratic and the Republican CNN/YouTube debates," CNN said in a statement issued late in the day.

The Clinton News Network now defends its plants... after pretending ignorance about them! Talk about a switcheroo.

Even Josef Goebbels admitted that he was producing propaganda.

But CNN apparently presented these people who are active Democratic backers, as concerned undecided voters who came to the debate with their own questions.

The entire thing was farce, another smear on CNN and the hilary campaign. CNN looked so bad, the only way it could have looked worse for CNN is if they had a few of the Portland or Seattle America hating anti-war protesters show up as ‘concerned undecided voters’

It was a REPUBLICAN debate for REPUBLICAN voters, CNN, you bunch of idiots.

Don't you understand that not only are Democrats entitled to decide what issues are legitimate and relevant to Democrats, they alone are also entitled to decide which issues are considered substantive and legitimate to Republicans, too? So what if they have to use deception to further their political ends? They're entitled. [translation of CNN code into English]

The point is that CNN lied about who the people were. CNN misrepresented the questioners in both of their debates as undecided voters of the respective parties. The questioners were all Democrats, except Nordquist. The Democrats even got to pick their own questioners and make up the questions for their own debate.

CNN put on a political version of the Jerry Springer show for the Republican debate. They put on a dog and pony show for the Democrat debate. I fully expected Wolf Blitzer to have the Democrats get up and walk around the ring and examine their teeth, in the Democrat debate.

If CNN could invent some sort of machine that would pump fresh human excrement into the living rooms of every Republican viewer, leaving Democrat viewers unscathed, they wouldn’t hesitate to throw the switch.

FNC wants Rudy, CNN wants Hillary, and MSNBC is a joke. I think this is hurting both Rudy and Hillary. Primary voters will rightfully get increasingly annoyed by pundits telling them that they are either irrelevant or are so simple that the talking heads can easily predict what they will do. Primary voters will not vote for Hillary or Rudy just so they can prove the pundits wrong.

Sure and they’d let Republicans ask questions of the Democrats and then give a conservative activist member of the leading Republican campaign not only to ask a question but talk longer than the candidates did after they’ve responded. I’ll believe it when I see it happen. It’s more likely that they’d have a Hillary Clinton staffer ask a question of the other Democratic candidates than allowing any Republican ask the Democrats a question.

"substantive questions of concern"

True, last time I checked, the American people were extremely concerned about don't ask don't tell, the confederate flag, and whether candidates believed every word of the Bible.

I think its ok to have left-wing socialist ask questions of republicans, and its ok for CNN to plant a people to ask questions considered to be “tough” by leftist; it actually help sort out the republican who deal with it best. Selectively planting questioners is unprincipled, but CNN is who they are.

Nearly half of America will vote for a democrat, no matter who she/he/or it is. And the other half will vote for a republican. A few in the middle is the target. They will make the difference. The real challenge is to cause more voters to consider conservatism to be the better choice.

Hey, send them mail

I just sent this -

Regarding your statement in response to the Democrat plants at last night's debate - you call the confederate flag, don't ask don't tell and whether the candidates believe every word of the Bible "substantive questions of concern"?

What a load of crap. You're not fooling anyone, shills. And the fact that your shameless behavior is displayed with such transparency indicates just how far down into the muck the mainstream media has slid. Thank God for the new media, because your lies are so easily exposed by anyone with a dozen working brain cells and an internet connection.

You need a new slogan. How about "CNN - the most BUSTED name in news"?

(Can't take credit for the slogan thing, read it on a blog. It'd make a great tag though.)

The whole point here is that CNN CHOSE the questions. That’s the bogus nature of their whole argument. CNN decided out of ALL 5,000 entries which questions to use. As many have said, those questions were couched in “liberal speak,” and therefore chosen by CNN because they followed their own bias. Let’s face it...Gays in the military and the Confederate flag are NOT big issues to Republicans, but they are to the liberals, which is why CNN chose them. It’s unfortunate that the questions that Republicans REALLLY would want the answers to were not even asked.

“They had more than 5000 questions submitted and they not only managed to pick general swishypants’ question, they also managed to fly him cross country, put him up in a hotel, and put a mic in his hand.”

Funny, I don’t think they used or ever planned on using any of the ‘submitted’ questions.

The PRODUCER of the CNN DEBATES openly states that it took his staff ‘MONTHS’ to come up with the proper questions for the debate.

After they picked the questions, then they picked someone to prep with the question, and be prepared to ask it.

Kolonel Klink(Kerr) was a ‘special’ GAY insert. Done to make Anderson Cooper feel good.

During the DEMO DEBATES, outside there were groups of VOLUNTEER SUPPORTERS for each candidate. The “RED STATE UPDATE” guys asked one such group, “who is a volunteer”, and “who is a paid supporter”.

Only ONE PERSON raised their hand as being a VOLUNTEER supporter.

"We shouldn’t split hairs on who to vote for in this one. Whoever get the nod we just got to hold are nose and support until they get elected."

Go right ahead if you so desire, but some of us are done with voting for the one who stinks the least. Put another way, voting for the lesser of two evils still amounts to voting for evil. After many election cycles of holding our nose, we now have Guiliani and Romney running well in a party that used to be conservative.

When do we take a stand and tell the republicans that the drift to the left is unacceptable? They barely listen in an election year. Do you honestly believe that they will listen after we have held our noses and voted for them again?

6,000 questions were submitted for this debate. Out of those 6,000 questions CNN just happened to pick one from a guy who is the head of a Vets for Hillary Group? A question on a topic that does not appear in any list of the top 25 issues Republican voters say they are concerned about?

CNN now compounds their crime by out right lying about it!

Unfortunately for you your assessment of Fox is pure nonsense without even a hint of a thought of a possibility of a clue.

Glad you hate Guliani. However, that doesn't give you cause to make complete fraudulent accusations at everyone who doesn't mindlessly scream hate at him like you want them to.

Your post is also wholly irrelevant to the point of this thread. What ever shortcoming Fox may have as a news organization it has never pulled the sort of bone head transparently biased stunts CNN pulled in these last 2 debates.
