(Baltimore) MTA looks at racial role in city bus attack
Baltimore Sun ^ | 7 December 2007 | Michael Dresser

Maryland Transit Administration Police said last night that they have found no evidence that the severe beating of a 26-year-old woman on a city bus this week was provoked and that they are investigating the attack as a possible racially motivated hate crime.

Nine middle school students have been charged as juveniles with aggravated assault and destruction of property in the Tuesday afternoon attack on a woman and her male companion on the No. 27 bus.

Police said yesterday that they have determined that there were two additional victims in the case - a third passenger and the bus operator who came to his assistance.

Investigators were examining video from a surveillance camera on the bus but had not completed their analysis.

Baltimore is no better or worse than any big city.

Baltimore is worse that San Francisco and Seattle in this regard.

My big issue is with the unspoken assumption that use of the “N-word” justifies a violent response.

I agree.

Please read all the articles I posted about. Seems WBAL is out of date and just running with rumors. Even this Sun article is better (gasp) in detail.

Generally, yes, but it’s pretty much on par with many big cities - Detroit, L.A., Boston, Atlanta, Chicago....

I’m quite sure each of those cities has dangerous areas. That said, have no desire to go to either one of those cities.

“I heard she used the N word and spat on the kids”

Man you must be new to this...they always claim that, they will have no proof and the media will let it pass believing the young thugs because they are black.

Anybody heard who put up the noose at Cornell? Eventhough the police have the video and know who did it they wont say...like most of these type of incidents it is often the perps who stage it in order to inflame the idiots and racists (LaRaza, NAACP, LaMecha etc...) into demanding more racist programs.

Interesting. But please note there are only 9 reviews - 4 viewable. 2 of those do indicate “violence”, but the others are more about what kind of education they’re getting. And we don’t know if those are isolated problems or really rampant.

BTW, seeing the pix of the school, I think it’s quite beautiful (”outdated”, as the student said).

Hampden area is not known at all for being violent; in fact that’s where the big neighborhood Christmas displays go on. That’s about the best I can say not knowing much else about this detail.

You might get a disease at San Francisco. ;-) (”The City” - and don’t call it “Frisco”!)

You are correct, of course. But, it’s not close to what it used to be, if you ask my mother.
_____________

If we can find a city of B’more’s size where it’s like it was in the 40’s and 50’s - not a comment on your age, but rather our parents :-) - I’d love to see it.

For those of us that know, use, and, yes, like the city, we get around just fine. It’s home.

“For those of us that know, use, and, yes, like the city, we get around just fine. It’s home.”

Yes. We often talk about what it was like. Taking a bus to the Civic Center or Memorial Stadium. Those were the days.
Speaking of which, I heard the Wizards retired Earl Monroe’s number. Funny, did he even play for the wizards. LOL.

"My big issue is with the unspoken assumption that use of the “N-word” justifies a violent response. This has become quite accepted in our society. It’s wrong. The appropriate response to words you dislike is more words, not violence."

Or no response at all...

seems like they’re on the horns of a dilemma - the thugs are black - the victims are white - if it stopped there, no problem - NO HATE CRIME - but

it was a BLACK bus driver who called the police and then came to the aid of the WHITES and got himself attacked too...

what to do = what to do.

Al notSharp will still defend the poor little dears

You know what would be interesting? If the spine of Maryland (MoCo, Howard, P.G., Baltimore City and County) joined up with the District and NoVa to form one state, the Eastern Shore went to the remaining “Red” portions of Virginia, and Western Maryland hooked up with Virginia or West Virginia.

A blue, blue state would be created and the District would get voting rights, but two red states would be saved.

It would never happen, but it would be an interesting alignment...

Do you have a point in repeating for a third time the same article that you’ve already posted twice? If you’ve got a problem with what I posted, come out and say it.

Most of the killings here are a result of business or romance complications.

That being said, I am concluding that the racial issue here was A component of the event not THE component.

When toughs of either races get into it (and any 26 year old chick riding an MTA bus in Hampden at 3:00 PM is tough , crazy or both) the N word or “Honkie” gets thrown around as a matter of escalating the confrontation.

And folks here LOVE to confront.

Just good ol B’more stuff

Go Ravens (haha)

“Hampden area is not known at all for being violent;”
But these “students” had to have bus passes. Where are they from?

Some of these areas don’t use school buses. They just get passes for mass transit.
