I don't know if it has been mentioned already, but the two girls that were killed at New Life were Stephanie and Rachael Works, both home-schooled.

Dave, please alert the Homeschool ping list to pray for this family's loss. The father, David, was shot twice (abdomen and groin) and is in fair condition.

We live about a 30-minute drive from New Life.

A board member of my IDPA CLUB is also an Elder in my church. He carries a concealed 1911 during the service and sits at the front of the Sanctuary near the Pastor & Choir. I carry my Sig P226 with 17+1 and a spare mag concealed and sit at the rear of the Sanctuary during the main morning service. I figure that in the age of terror where the enemy is ISLAM, it will make all kinds of sense for the enemy to strike directly at the heart of what they see as infidel detractors of Islam: Jewish and Christian houses of worship. That's my reason. I'm a Sheepdog by nature. But besides being prepped for a terror issue, it also serves to deal with the lone gunman whacko. I recall the well publicized event in South Africa back in the late 80's or early 90's where there was a mass terror attack using grenades and AK's. There was a lone parishioner who was able to bring his 38sp snubnose into the action and get a few shots off. HE wasn't carrying any spare ammo and his accuracy wasn't good enough due to the close range nature of both his weapon and his experience. I used to carry a Smith & Wesson M642 snubbie and for the reasons above switched to a more serious implement of defense. It's my new motto: Serious guns for serious times.

Man! What a crying shame!

The Rocky Mountain MS Center Released the following statement:

"To our friends in the MS Community:

We are deeply saddened to learn that the recent church shootings had a direct connection to the family of Dr. Ron Murray. Dr. Murray has a long association with the Rocky Mountain MS Center, having served as both the director of research and as medical director in the past. He has currently been serving as a senior consultant to the Center in our search for a new medical director. He has served the Rocky Mountain MS Center, and the MS community with a very high level of skill, commitment and excellence Dr. Murray is one of the pillars of our community who has devoted, and continues to devote –his life to the care of patients with MS through his expertise, care and experience. We are proud of our many years of affiliation with Dr. Murray and want to lend our support him and his family at this very difficult time in their lives.

It was announced this afternoon that the shooter in Colorado Springs, who was subsequently killed, was Matthew Murray, one of Dr. Murray's children. We are deeply saddened for all of the victims, their families, and certainly for the Murray family. We do not know anything more than what has been shared in the press.

Dr. Murray was to have presented a research seminar this evening for the Rocky Mountain MS Center. We were notified last evening that he would not be able to participate in this evening's seminar, due to a family crisis. Initially, we determined that we needed to proceed with the seminar, finding an alternative speaker. It was only later that we found out what had transpired. We felt strongly that we should proceed with this evening's seminar, although the presentation will vary from what was originally planned. I want to thank Tom Stewart, for stepping up and presenting this evening's seminar. Because of our deep regard for Dr. Murray, it has been a difficult day for all of us as well."

CharityAdvantage Put Miss Assam's name into Google and came up with that site. I'm not even going to post the chart. 'Course we never heard of her until now. Wonder when the site put her info up. Look like an anti-police officer site to me.

I read through some of this kid's rantings and "poetry". This posting is to those who may be tempted to feel that perhaps the kid was persecuted and mistreated by church members. Well, yes he may have gotten some funny looks and some rejection, but it is how you interpret and process that kind of experience that shows what kind of a person you are. For this kid, apparently everything was about him. He was so completely self-absorbed that all sensory input was interpreted through a lens of me-ness. No one understands and appreciates me.

Yes, like everywhere else in the world, there are phonies in churches. There are cliques and there is backstabbing going on. But when you can look beyond yourself a little bit, you are able to see these things as opportunities for ministry rather than taking them personally.

There is a popular song out there right now that illustrates the self-focused attitude. I don't know the artist or all of the lyrics, but here is a couple of lines:

"Because of you, I never strayed too far from the sidewalk,

Because of you, I always played real close so I won't get hurt..."

The singer goes on to lament that her life is ruined because her father was overbearing, overprotective and cold. Well okay lady, you had a hard childhood, but it is time to go on. There is a world of other people out there who could use your unique talents whatever they may be. The attitude exemplified in this song is encouraged in our culture. If you don't have a healthy "self-esteem" you may as well give up.

A great irony in this episode is that the essence of Christianity is "other-centeredness" or simply love. Perhaps that has something to do with why the shooter hated Christians. Their very essence was threateningly alien to him.

Oh and by the way, this outward looking attitude would also help in toning down some of the high spirited posts I see on this very thread. Read my tagline.

Press Release: Threatening posts are now available
Good evening everyone,

In the interests of public service in trying to understand what happened, the Board of Directors has decided to move the threatening posts to an open forum for the public to see to try and make sense of all this chaos.

We are reposting these publicly because, since the shooter has died, and it is not likely to compromise any investigation for law enforcement. We removed the posts initially from public viewing because at the time we did not want to compromise any investigations. Law enforcement has had access to these posts.

You may now come to our forums and view the posts.

Thanks to everyone – forum members, news media, and law enforcement - for your efforts and kind concern in these matters.

This nutjob didn’t need medication, counseling or understanding. He needed an exorcist.

Gee, one whole week has passed and nary a word about this. Several people shot and killed in a hate crime and little national outrage.

Oh, I forgot. They were white Christians.
