What Would Free Republic Do If Fred Thompson Is Not The Republican Nominee? (Vanity)
December 9 2007 | jveritas

It is very obvious that Fred Thompson is Free Republic most favorite candidate and by far. On the other hand every other top tier Republican candidate, Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, and McCain are absolutely disdained by most Freepers. Therefore this is the important question:

What would Free Republic do if Fred Thompson is not the Republican Party Nominee?

I’d gladly support Huckabee. I’d hold my nose and probably vote for Romney

It's interesting, OS. I have read your posts over the years and you and I are more in sync than not, I would guess. But I don't like the Huckster and would be more comfortable with Giuliani. Interesting times, and choices. It is America that I love and which I want to preserve. It is not made easy for us.

I will gladly vote for the Republican nominee, whoever that may be. Ron Paul may be the exception but that will never happen.

Personally my ticket would be McCain/Hunter. I don’t care for McCain at all but think Hunter is the real deal.

Reason I like the ticket is because it could beat whoever the Democrats put out there. McCain would pull enough “undecideds” and/or Democrat votes to make the difference.

Reason #2 is the MSM will absolutely try and destroy any Republican except McCain. He’s a tough target for them and they know it. I think Hill or Obama would dread him more than anyone.

MHO of course so fire at will.

That sucks - even if Hillary is the nominee? I would think that might at least put the state in play.

...accept that although we may have lost one battle, but can’t and won’t lose the war.

First I would put a clothepin on my nose and select just about any Republican except for Rudy or Ron.

If it comes down to that, I will take two clothepins and vote for Rudy if that’s what it take to retain Republican control of the Presidency, and hopefully the Congress as well.

Don’t give me more hard question like that! It gives me a headache! Need more vodka!

But I’m really starting to like Huckabee.

Really? Why?

“We should all meet up at the top of the Golden Gate Bridge and protest with a mass suicide.”

I’d suggest a more conservative venue for the mass suicide: perhaps Zion National Park in Utah?

Anyway, Fred Thompson will be the nominee.

Write-in, unless it is Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo. I won’t be supporting the RINO Republican vision.

“I’d like to see the logic diagram that allows you to vote for a write-in or 3rd party candidate and NOT call IT a wasted vote.”

It’s contingent upon what YOUR vote means to YOU. If supporting conservative values is important why would you waste it on a liberal in Rino cloth like Rudy?(example, not saying he’s your man).

If it takes the complete destruction of the republican party as a viable political force to create a truly conservative party then so be it. The status quo is unacceptable in the long term.

Bush wasn’t my choice in the primaries leading up to 2,000, but you can bet that in the general election I did not vote for algore.

Dear Reagan79,

“The Republicans won’t carry Maryland anyways.”

That is an unlikely outcome, isn’t it?

Does that mean I have your blessing not to vote for the Republican candidate?

Easy to make jokes about what would happen, but realistically we get behind the nominee. Or claim bunks in one of Hillary’s reeducation camps.

1. You third party nuts are suicidal kookburgers.

2. If a monkey in a bellhop suit with an (R) behind his name is our candidate I’m pulling that lever.

3. Every one of the GOP candidates is preferable to any one of the liberal, socialist, appeasing, anti-military, taxing abortionists on the left.

4. You third party nuts are suicidal kookburgers.

Take the party that best fits your values and work to shape it to your liking. Don’t kill 95% of your issues because you’re to shortsighted to see beyond your all-consuming single issue.

Below is from George Washington’s Farewell Address!

Warns against the party system.
“It serves to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration....
agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one....
against another....
it opens the door to foreign influence and corruption...
thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”

Stresses the importance of religion and morality.
“Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths,
which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice?”

On stable public credit.
“...cherish public credit.
One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible...
avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt....
it is essential that you...bear in mind, that towards the payments of debts there must be Revenue,
that to have Revenue there must be taxes;
that no taxes can be devised, which are not...inconvenient and unpleasant...”

Warns against permanent foreign alliances.
“It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world...”

We know you consider voting for a liberal to not be wasting your vote. IOW, you'll happily cast your vote for the liberal-- in this case, Rooty Giuliani. As if we didn’t already know that.

GO FRED GO!!!

I don’t engage too much in “what ifs”. I like to live in the moment and try to make what I want happen. On top of that, while many will say they definitely would or would not choose something before it actually becomes necessary to make that choice, it really does not mean much. Once the circumstances actually change, most of us evaluate our choices differently in the cold light of day than we do when they are only possibilities.
