I'm sure that's true. It's sad that this has to be, however.
I am with Gracesdad, on the VT issue.
AM, I strongly suspect that any number of male freepers are currently smitten
Not to mention she can probably KICK YOUR AS*
Agreed. In the old days also, hair was put up or cut for married women exactly because it might less attract men. Also just a symbol of sorts: “I’m taken”.
I sympathize with women getting short hair to have less to do. Men complain about women alot, but they are often the 1s who drive the whole “inconsistency” thing and what women do or don’t do. Men complain about short hair - it’s because women have too much to do. Men complain women take forever to get ready on a date, etc. - it’s because the dating woman has long hair the man desires which is hard to deal with, AND no matter what situation, women have to put on make-up. If not using the latter, men will complain the woman doesn’t look her best and doesn’t try (or even call her “ugly”).
It’s men’s desires that drive all this nonsense in truth. Meanwhile, we don’t expect that of them and they don’t have to deal with any of it. Lots of them hardly try to look their best as far as clothes, even.
All right, understood. I probably got it mixed up with Columbine. Sorry.
Maybe if their had been Church Security back in the olden days, the Christians would not of been fed to the lions. One should not feel the need for security at a school, a mall, on the street, in your home, or in a church..but the reality of it is we do need security. Most homes today come with security systems, but you always need a back up plan.
We’re just talking about marital-status terminology.
Did Jesus answer LOCK AND LOAD?
:-)
oh blah blah blah - there’s a tough trick. That’ll look as good on her resume as “can walk and chew gum”
Stop and think. There was a shooting in the church. Isn’t that sufficient evidence that it’s appropriate to protect those in the church from such shooters? I don’t understand why you’re taking the stance you are. Would you prefer Christians die? Are you against the Second Ammendment?
That she is not gonna vote for the Huckster
How long does hair have to be for you to consider it long enpugh and what is too short?
Bald men tend to have more testosterone. It’s a male trait, so the more baldness, the more male you are. ;-)
(Actually, it’s not “short” - it just disappears whether long or short!)
I think your question is better posed to “bsco” (whatever), who actually questioned this.
I am sorry, I just couldn’t resist the jab.. the truth of the matter is , that Jeanne Assam’s hair is stylish, and it really doesn’t matter, she is still lauded today on her shooting abilities.
Bill Murray, “Kingpin”??
I suppose you fail to see that such preventative measures were necessary on Sunday?
The fact that you have been part of a “mainline Protestant church” may be exactly why you have seldom seen any threats. It is the churches that are not mainline, that are nondenominational and specifically invite in the homeless, broken, drug-addicted, poor, foreign-born, and problem-plagued that tend to have troubles with security. For these people are those who most need help, and they are also the ones most likely to attract danger.
Yup. But so many men bring up how good (or bad) she looks, just because it’s a woman. And sometimes we all get sidetracked and off-topic. ;-)
Ridiculous, but ALWAYS happens on “woman” thread.
Never happens when man is hero/perpetrator. I am tempted to do that next time. Next time there’s a man accused of sexual assault on a teen or younger, I’ll judge him guilty or innocent based on his looks. Or if he’s a hero, I’ll talk about what a “hunk” he is - or unfortunately, a hunk of fat.
I hope you did not mean that the way that it sounded. It sounds as if you're saying that those who are divorced or widowed are not as good as those who have never been married and are deceitfully attempting to make themselves look as good as the never-married. Surely that was not your intent.
Would you care to be the victim of said good-looking perp? I'm guessing no - even if studly, you'd probably be turned off by the sickness/weakness that made him think underage females were fair game. Us guys ought think the same, but damn, it's tough. There's a reason Odysseus HAD TO hear the Sirens, ya know?
Those articles say that she is a security guard for the church. They do not say that she is the pastor’s personal “body guard.”
Where is the evidence for your contention that, as you say, “she is the pastors ‘body guard’? And did you mean anything by putting “body guard” in quotes?
I’m just a bit on guard against those who might speak ill of New Life Church or make innuendo against it. Perhaps you aren’t, and I’m just being a bit overly suspicious.
Back in those old days people understood they’d be persecuted for their beliefs. That’s just as true today as then. But the focus then, as it should be now, was on salvation; not the need to protect ones selves from an evil world.
But, in today’s world, where the focus is more on the needy than salvation, I guess security is a necessary ‘evil’. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that a church should not help those in need. But too many churches today make that their focus instead of the real purpose of a church; to help save us from sin.
And, as regards most true heroes (unlike the typical false liberal icons) I expect the MSM to hold true to form and make sure the lady is fully investigated and trashed before this is all over.
The Minneapolis Star and Sickle is reporting this morning that she was fired from the Minneapolis Police Department in the late '90s.
An essential bit of information as regards Sunday's incident, wouldn't you say?
So glad they shared that with us.
I didn’t say they “aren’t as good”.
SINGLE always in the past (pre-PC) MEANT NEVER married. That was understood.
Suddenly in the age of PC, it’s become “not married now”. The term “single” has been co-opted.
It IS deceptive. Many are trying to indicate they have no “baggage”. (Because that’s what many people think when they see “divorced” especially.) I’m not PC. Don’t try to paint me as something I’m not. I’m pointing out facts, that’s all.
Makes one wonder, will organizations like N.O.W. even cast a glance this woman’s way?
This is an example of “I am woman, hear me roar”.
This is an example of a woman who doesn’t have to cling to a man’s coattails to ‘be something’.
This is a woman who believes in God and Country.
This is a woman who puts the safety of others first.
Like the story the other day. A soldier came back from Iraq, having had his leg amputated. His wife enlisted, to take his place and finish his commitment.
Maybe we can show our Children that JEANNE is the kind of role model they should choose, and not BRITNEY or LINDSAY.
She’s HOT!
Where’s all the dumb blonde jokes?
Well! That tells a lot, doesn't it. I'm not at all against helping the needy in this world. But the focus of religion is salvation. Far too often churches lose that focus and go into humanitarian efforts at salvation's expense. They believe they're doing God's work (and they are...to a degree). But by becoming worldly and inclusive they are actually failing in God's mission.
You know what my point was. The vapid pathetic tongue-lolling over female perpetrators is sickening. I’d just be giving it back to these many FRers.
But when a woman does get married and have a child by age 22, she'd better not be a stay-at-home wife and mother or else she's a "leech." Women just can't win with some FR men. I've learned to stay away from certain threads 'cause I can tell just from the titles that a whole lot o' women-bashin' will be goin' on within. And the funny thing about it is, these men don't realize that they sound exactly like Feminazis, only in reverse! (shrugs)
She did a great job.
But let’s not forget the other guard who distracted the attacker and took a bullet so that Jeanne could have a cleaner line-of-fire.
I don't fail to see anything. It's been a fallen world since man's fall from grace. Yet we've survived and prospered without 'security' in our churches as we seem to require now. Does this mean man is more evil today than in the past? I think not. OTOH, have we in our religious organizations changed our focus on what God's mission to us truly is?
This passage and the verse you quoted has nothing to do with "communion with God" and is probably one of the most mis-applied verses in the Bible. It is usually wrongly interpreted to mean; "Hey, there's two of us here now so Jesus is here now!"
A verse taken out of context is a pretext, so here is the passage in it's entire context...
"If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will bebound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
peace
no offense intended.
Fair ‘nuf
Looks like maybe the ‘mega-churches’ should add an indoor shooting range to the gymnasium.
Shopping malls should have the same. With signs in the mall:”
WARNING.
SHOPPERS ARE ARMED.
CRIMINALS WILL BE PROSECUTED BY BULLET.”
“I hardly see the need for security under proper circumstances, unless, that is, some outside entity is considered a threat.”
If that is the reason this church encouraged selected volunteers to help with security, then I guess they were 100% correct in forecasting the need for it.
Really? I thought FR men loved them to “do nothing” and feel they rule because they “make the money”. (Wait, that goes hand-in-hand - they make the money and the world sees their effort, so they’re the important 1s. And since the woman doesn’t go out in public and make money, how dare she ever ask for anything? She should pull her own weight!)
Guess I haven’t been on those threads!
I know about the woman-bashing. I’ve actually ended up the target myself. The guy apologized for his covert prying and disclosing of me but it showed (very publicly) just how bad it can all be here.
The old adage is wrong. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not some silly wives tale.
Yes, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to help our fellow man. But that's become the main focus of so many churches today; and it's a straw man. God's commission to His church on earth was to go forth and baptizing the world into His family of believers; not being a good Samaritan. Being that good Samaritan is part of it, sure, but it's not to be the focus.
Once we lose sight of God's purpose through us, we begin substituting our will for His. And where does that lead us?
“At church, one should not feel the need for security.”
Tell that to all the little altar-boys.
I loved this quote that I found on another story on this topic. Runs counter to all laws and philosophies that are present in modern society:
“Asked if she felt like a hero, Ms Assam said: ‘I wasn’t just going to wait for him to do further damage.’”
The irony is, under some states’ laws, you are COMPELLED to retreat in the face of deadly force and “wait for further damage” before the State recognizes your right to use deadly force. When someone pulls a gun on you, at best, you are to stand there, and, if possible, run away. Only if neither of those are an option does the State “authorize” you to use deadly force.
You know, when states authorize you to shoot first at anyone you consider to be a deadly threat, the liberals call that the “Dirty Harry/Make My Day” law.
Well, I call an obligation to retreat the “Politely offer the criminal the first shot” rule. Or, the “Ensure your own death rule”. Or, “Give the Advantage to the Criminal” rule. Or, “Protect-A-Thug” rule. Or, “Libs Love To Give Criminals The Benefit Of The Doubt” rule.
Basically, here’s a person who just broke into your house and showed a weapon. The Libs now want you to disregard all that when judging whether or not he means you harm. Because he hasn’t HARMED you yet, you see. In the eyes of the law, with regard to self defense, he’s done NOTHING that should even raise your eyebrows.
Of course, the ones who make such laws have armed guards to protect them. And, they’ve convinced the American public that it’s noble to behave this way, and wrong to protect yourself and others as Jeanne Assam did.
Thanks, Libs! You’ve trained a large number of Americans to believe that a good and just society is one that arms it’s criminals, provides safe areas for them to shoot large numbers of the law-abiding without hinderance, and that proper citizens will lay down and surrender when threatened. In other words, you’ve taught society to behave exactly backwards.
Larry King had her on his show and she came across as professional and dignified. She is also attractive.
Jeanne Assam had just been on a three day fast, sounds like she was focusing on her soul and salvation, more than her aim.
I never implied that. I said that when two or more congregate in God's name He will be there also (..."defines one's communion with God"). As you quote: "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
I see no misinterpretation. And I'm not taking any offense.
I'd agree.
Look, I’m addressing the issue of security in churches in general. I’m not picking out one individual or church organization. I don’t go to that church, I’m not near that church. But from what I’ve read here from posters, I have to wonder just where that organization’s focus is.
nice looking when she smiles....needs a new haircut
God bless her...incredible.
this is just another example of the benefit of CCW
