Easley: Illegal Immigrants Deserve Education

Raleigh — North Carolina cannot turn its back on anyone who wants a better education, including illegal immigrants, Gov. Mike Easley said Tuesday.

Easley reiterated his support for a policy shift in the North Carolina Community College System that allows qualified illegal immigrants to attend any of the state's 58 community colleges as an out-of-state student.

About 340 illegal immigrants are enrolled statewide, officials said.

Easley said he understands why many North Carolina residents oppose the idea. But he said anyone who studies the issue would support it.

Qualified illegal immigrants deserve an education...

An education of what our laws are, how those laws are supposed to work, and how to get deported in one easy lesson.

Wait.... many of our officials need this same education it would seem.

The illegal college students are only taking classroom seats that the American students don’t want to take! (Sarcasm)

Does this mean they are also ‘deserving’ of financial aid?

Why? They can’t legaly work.

You will have to be a bit clearer...for me to understand what you are saying...

Not now, but our country has a long history of granting amnesties, after which the states end up stuck with the formally illegal immigrants that the federal government decides to make legal.

I don't approve of allowing illegal aliens to attend college.

However, the states have very limited ability to force the federal government to deport illegal aliens, and have to deal with the effects of the federal government failing to do it's duty and then often granting amnesty.

A lot of community colleges around here are looking at having to increase tuition because enrollment is down.

Since immigration is a federal issue, I'd kill this in a different way than actually banning them from attending. I'd require the colleges to notify the federal government about any illegal immigrants that apply, and ban offering them in state tuition or any financial aid. If there are enrollment limits I would only allow illegal immigrants to take classes after all qualified legal students were admitted. I would also not force any colleges to accept illegal immigrants.

I would say that would take care of the states' responsibilities on the issue. If the federal government is going to blatantly ignore immigration laws, there is little the states can do about it. Just make sure not to reward them or even give them equal standing as someone here legally.

It sure seems disingenuous to claim that (illegal) immigrants deserve monies set aside for citizens, and taken without consultation from same. It’s interesting that at every turn in the “debate”, anytime and wherever logic would allow for removing the incentive, the lawmakers, or perhaps the judiciary, have already “been there, done that” with respect to the law. Tuition is one of those chokepoints.

Notice that education is “off limits” - and done early on, decades ago. Consider how things would be different, if no provision for education were wanted nor allowed. I’m just sayin’. The logic is undeniable - the entire immigration debacle is obviously planned with an attention to detail and heading off any grumblings from the electorate. Since nobody in their right minds would ever vote to have their jobs exported overseas and el-cheapo workers imported underseas to take their jobs away... Pretty smoove, huh?

Impeach or recall, or whatever you have to do to remove this millstone around the neck of the taxpayers.

That means 340 legal citizens who applied are not enrolled.
They were displaced by 340 unqualified illegal aliens.

In a state the size of NC, I find it hard to believe that all the local Community College’s accepted all qualified applicants first, and then made room for unqualified applicants.

If the applicant student’s illegal alien status stems from an ICE(Formerly known as INS)paperwork error, lets talk about the need for case by case reviews.
If the student’s illegal alien status stems from their parents original decision to bypass/ignore/break USA immigration laws, well, I really don’t see any need for review.
Family gets deported, and the student applies for legal immigration from their country of origin.

Whats his name? Sleezeley? Hah!

This guy makes me sick. I hope the good voters there will send him a pink slip on the next election.

He is no longer needed or wanted. Perhaps he could move to Mexico to get elected.

But this is just the first step (opening Community Colleges to Illegals). Next will be giving them instate tuition. Already being studied by Erskine Bowles (head of the UNC College system) They’ll study it until the Nov O8 elections are over and then give that to illegals.

Remember, liberals are masters of incrementalism. This is just one example.

Easley: Illegal Immigrants Deserve Education

Take every penny of Easley's income and investments to pay for this. And force him to sell his home or any other properties to assist in the payments.

As for the “studies the issue” comment by Sleazely, just another example of the supposed intellectual capabilities of liberals. “If you just knew more, you’d understand the problem and solution like I do” comment is old and straight out of the Dims playbook.

If you wanna be smart, be like a Dim. Intellectual arrogance at its finest whose answer intellectually is not based on logic.

Perhaps, when we are told that we should not deny education to ANYONE who wants it, we should ask where that came from. Our Constitution says nothing about education much less guaranteeing it for illegal immigrants.

Remember folks, the children of illegal aliens that were born here are citizens.

That’s a perversion of the 14th Amendment, their parents are not subject to the jurisdiction that the child was born in. Also if jusy having a child here made them citizens, why isit when diplomats or others from anywhere but Mexico, return to their country of origin where their child is a legal citizen ?
