Smithfield A judge has told a Johnston County farmer that he cannot open his farm to Muslim families planning to slaughter lambs as part of an annual religious celebration.
The judge issued a 10-day injunction Friday, meaning that about 250 Muslim families in Wake County will have to make other arrangements for slaughtering lambs they bought in advance of the three-day Festival of the Sacrifice, which begins on Wednesday.
Kenneth and Eddie Rowe have tangled before with the state over the mass slaughter of lambs on their 300-acre farm. They said they have been conducting the slaughtering in their 80x100 barn for the past six years.
In 2005, the Rowes preserved their right to carry on the tradition. The state Department of Agriculture fined them $10,000 for the practice the same year, but the Rowes have not yet paid it.

I guess the annual Festival of the Disemboweling of the Infidels is out this year.
Just waiting for the ACLU to come to the rescue of the only religion they embrace.
At the risk of siding with the Moslems, why aren’t they allowed to slaughter lambs?
I am waiting for those wimpering cowards over at PETA to speak up against the barbarians. And I hear?...
(sounds of crickets chirping)
Does six years really constitute a Tradition?
Forget the lambs- suggest they slaughter each other. REAL sacrifice- and less Muslims in the world.
I am not a fan of Islam (as a matter of fact, I despise that faith), but this is ridiculous. Let them enjoy their mutton!
Because this is America, where you can’t do anything you want to your private property.
What state is this in. In case I’m traveling there I want to be able to stear clear of crowds and human bombs.
If it’s their private property, they can do what they want with it. Why don’t we spend our time fighting the Muslims who behead, stone, gas, blow up, and impale PEOPLE over in the Middle East instead?
I’m not siding with Muslims as Muslims, but what’s wrong with slaughtering lambs/pigs/goats, whatever?
I think they do what Orthodox Jews do, which is slit the animal’s throat and let it bleed out (which I believe happens fairly quickly).
I’ve seen this in Spain, where they slaughter hogs this way, btw.
I think that noted imam Denis Leary said it best:
“Meat is murder...”
My cousins in Texas are now raising goats, which they sell to muslims in Detroit.
Not sure if the goats are for ceremonial, culinary, or erotic use.
The beast that is Islam has already taken over the middle east, and is doing the terrible things you mention.
This incident is one of the many ‘toes in the door’; that same beast rooting itself here.
Would you rather fight it while it is small, or wait till the suicide bombs and beheadings are here? We’re dealing with a mindset that sees little difference between slaughtering lambs and killing their own daughters! Death is at it’s core.
Islam is death. Fight it wherever, and however you find it.
They're not mutually exclusive uses.
Well, do they get more money for the pretty ones? :=)
Has the judge issued an injunction against all slaughter houses in the area?
This has nothing to do with Muslim or any other religion. This has to do with a judge that is a moron.
“State agriculture officials said the Rowes must build a custom slaughter facility. The two men say that would cost $740,000. State officials said mass slaughters conducted any other way are unsanitary and threaten an outbreak of disease.
The lamb slaughter commemorates the day when Muslims believe God allowed the patriarch Abraham to sacrifice a ram, instead of his son. Muslims believe the son to be sacrificed was Ishmael, rather than Isaac as recorded in the Christian Old Testament.”

There are the reasons. And, no, I didn’t notice any input by the PETA crowd. Guess there are still a few people left that they are respectful/afraid of.
I think that just to be even handed, the judge should ban the sale of meat in the entire county.
The article ends: “Eddie Rowe said sending the lambs which cost around $32,000 to slaughterhouses is not acceptable option, because the families then could not watch.”
Why not give each family a DVD of their lamb being slaughtered? They could watch it every year.
Do the children also watch this? It’s a wonder that they don’t turn out twisted. Or do they?
Gov’t is way more dangerous in this case.
The next step will be outlawing Muslim homeschool, then Christian homeschool. Ya get the picture?
On the one hand, if they have lambs to slaughter, maybe they’ll leave us infidels alone (cathartic release.)
On the other hand, what if they are merely PRACTICING??!!!!
And require all animal shelters and dog pounds to go ‘no-kill’.
Maybe even ban killing babies? No, never mind that wouldn’t be enlightened.
Where’s PETA?
Same reasons pagans can’t sacrifice animals...
First lambs, then goats — NEXT US. If they want to live like this, they should return to their natal and ancestral hell countries and get the hell out of here.
Free The Lambs...Kill the Rats.
This isn’t a progression where first they slaughter lambs, then things suddenly grow and they start slaughtering their children. The two are independent of each other. If they kill their own daughter, the a-hole should be arrested, tried for murder, and given a just sentence. If they want to slaughter lambs on their own private property, so what.
Historically Christians sacrificed lambs too. Would this judge put a stop to that as well?
So it’s not the slaughter itself, but the magnitude of the slaughter and the public health ramifications.
[Note: ramifications is the appropriate word to convey the intended meaning, and is in no way intended as a sheep pun.]
Uh, no. Animal sacdifice is not part of the Christian faith.
The very first Christians did, but I am not aware of that practice carrying forward to the Gentile Christians.
Allow them to do that and they’ll want to chop heads off and not be arrested for it. Wait, they already do!
God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to test his faith, so he tied him to the alter but an angel stopped him before he did anything. Afterwards, he found a ram caught in the bushes to sacrifice instead.
That’s what I was referring to.
I meant the very first Christians
Is the restriction because the Rowes don’t have a licensed abbatoir?
If Orthodox Jews can find a way to slaughter animals that meet both State and Jewish law I am sure Muslim can find a way as well.
sometimes the jokes write themselves....
Me thinks ist's about time for them all to move back to whatever backward country they are from where they would have the freedom to do their thing. I'll get them a one way ticket.
So many virgins, all at once!
I know many families who “sacrifice” an animal every year. Will I be outlawed from raising, slaughtering and cooking my Thanksgiving turkey next?
I agree with Jeff and Clemenza on this one. I don’t think a judge should tell folks they can’t slaughter animals for food on their property, unless it is a health hazard or something.
PETA would love this.
Exactly.
Whatif I want to kill a deer on my property, and I don’t have a slaughterhouse?
Do you eat meat? You know the stuff that is in the shiny packages in the grocery store?
Lots of kids were raised on farms where they kill animals for food, and they aren’t twisted.
“God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to test his faith, so he tied him to the alter but an angel stopped him before he did anything. Afterwards, he found a ram caught in the bushes to sacrifice instead.
Thats what I was referring to.”
Abraham was a Christian? How prescient of him!
If it is like our state, one has to build a separate facility to slaughter differant things. Chickens are slaughtered in a different building than beef for example.
In this area the Moslums have van trucks that have a hole in the floor of the bed. They park over a sewer and kill the animals and bleed them over the sewer. No one knows until the mess hits the treatment plant.
Bloodsport - and a creepy one at that.
This is insane. The sacrifice is not torture. The meat is eaten. I’ve never, nor will I blocked sales of lambs on my site and they were bought for this celebration.
