Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Tuesday blasted President Bushs foreign policy record, saying that his judgments will be subject to the harsh light of history, and the verdict will not be kind.
But Obama also criticized his main opponents for the Democratic nomination for helping start the Iraq war.
Its easy for us to lay all of the problems of the world at George Bushs doorstep, Obama said in Des Moines, Iowa.
George Bush did not take us to war alone, the Illinois senator stated, noting that Congress authorized the use of force.
Obama indicated that his opposition to the war gives him an edge in a general election matchup.
My opponent wont be able to say that I ever supported the war in Iraq, or that I dont support a clear timetable to bring our troops home, Obama said, taking a swipe at Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). He wont be able to say that I voted to use our troops in Iraq to counter Iran, or that I support the Bush-Cheney diplomacy of not talking to leaders we dont like.
Obama reiterated his pledge to personally talk to Iran about its choices.
We need a president who is willing to talk to all nations friend and foe, Obama said. Not talking doesnt make us look tough, it makes us look arrogant.
The Illinois senator pledged to listen to all of his advisers and said that there would not be an ideological or loyalty test in his administration.
W’s legacy will be very favorable on his war on terror.
If anyone would be good at “listening” to other nations it would be Ubama.
So Obambi thinks we’d be better off with Saddam still in power?
I hope someone gets around to asking him that one of these days.
I disagree, O Great Eared one.
Granted, you and you cronies write and rewrite history, but I disagree.
Does he read palms too I wonder?
Senator, why has crude oil doubled, our housing market gone from great to poor, and everybody and their brother is on strike after your party took control of the Senate and House?
No kidding. Six years after 9/11 and not a single successful terrorist attack on American soil. No doubt the terrorists have tried and be thwarted time and again. That's not to say that they won't be successful in the coming year, because they will certainly try to ramp up their efforts in order to embarrass Bush and the Republicans before the election. But, the fact is that he has been overwhelmingly successful in the WOT. I think American people will begin to think about this in Bush's final year and start giving credit where it's due and his approval numbers will be up markedly in 2008.
Obama may just be a footnote speedbump when the history is written about 2007, in a few years.
The verdict of the left is never kind nor even fair to those that oppose its agenda.
What a clown Obama-lama-ding dong is...
He has shown his lack of knowledge on anything quite clearly (history included) on his policy positions...well...if anyone can figure out what those are...anyway...
Obama’s a dunce. And he will be taken out with the rest of the trash next year.
Obama’s history will be found under the chapter on Dumbasses.
Same kind of sentiments were said about Ronald Reagan when he was in office.
I'm sure Hitler wishes from hell Obama was President when he was a foe of America.
Obama is consistent. Consistently stupid and naive.
I wonder if he could tell me future lottery numbers
They said the same thing about Harry S. Truman, yet history treated him much kindly.
It really isn’t a jab at Bush.
He only uses Bush to launch an attack on Hillary.
GO CHASE YOURSELF! THEY'VE DONE ALL THE TALKING I CARE TO HEAR
History’s verdict on Obama will be “lightweight that Hillary trampled in landslide to nomination”
More like a greasy smear on the path of the 2008 elections.
Historys verdict on Bush will not be kind
What a clueless pip.
Imagine what it will be when it comes to the dems&anti-war nutjobs&media’s open collusion and support for our own sworn enemies
Who made Obamba a historian? Truth is, the history is just now being written for real regarding Joe McCarthy, now 60 years later. I’ll be sure to pick my history books carefully on President Bush in the year 2067, and make sure I don’t read any authors by the name of Obamba... or Hussein.
“Obama: Historys verdict on Bush will not be kind”
That’s wrong, but history will not remember Michael Dukakis and B. Hussein Obama.
Nonetheless, NO SINGLE PERSON in politics did more to contribute to an end of the Cold War that he. The Germans to proud, to stupid and self absorbed, would never admit it, but their country today stands united because of him.
The movers and shakers are often disliked at the time, may they be Teddy Roosevelt or Ronald Reagan ("Man in the Arena" was not a speech written because of all the positive press Teddy got). But it’s actually the Clinton's who brought us 911, a President that perjures himself and has oral sex in the Oval Office that go down as a farce in history right next to Carter.
Obama’s legacy will ...
wait, there won’t be one.
“So Obambi thinks wed be better off with Saddam still in power?”
That’s a requirement for anyone sucking off of Soros’ tit. Durbin, Ms Clinton, the whole bunch.
All I know is Obama is a dangerously naive lightweight.
and BarackObama will be a footnote in history
The state of the Dems is such that this circus clown obama is considered a bright hope for their party.
For comparison and contrast purposes, it would be nice if someone asked him what he thinks history’s verdict on Castro will be.
Anyone else notice this?
“My opponent wont be able to say that I ever supported the war in Iraq, or that I dont support a clear timetable to bring our troops home, Obama said, taking a swipe at Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). He wont be able to say that I voted to use our troops in Iraq to counter Iran, or that I support the Bush-Cheney diplomacy of not talking to leaders we dont like.
“taking a swipe at . . . Hillary Rodham Clinton . . .”
“He won’t be able to say . . .”
Enabling two democracys in the middle east will be massively impactful on the future and world security. Likely it will be the main thing Bush is remembered for.
Democracys do not make war on each other. They do not spread terrorism.
the left is an a55-hat
He likes Saddamites.
Obama, W has socks older than you, son...........
Well, this is going to sound crazy but I am about ready for Hillary to drop a bomb on this idiot. I am sick and tired of the media orgasm over this dumbo elephant stand-in.
I think the last President who was as hated as W, was Lincoln, another one who comes to mind more recently, was Truman.
If it weren’t for his support of illegals, President Bush would probably be remembered as one of our best Presidents.
The real question is, will history remember who Obama is?
Its his Magic 8 ball.
This is not about GWB (Obama's supporters already hate him), it's all about HRC, and trying to paint her with the same brush.
During the last election when that picture of Kerry in the bunny suit thing came out, a Freeper posted the infamous picture of Dukakis in the tank. A number of young Freepers chimed in and said, "I don't get it - who is that?"
Forgotten indeed! Less than 20 years.
My dad had a history book (before it was "civics", before it was scrubbed, before it was gone) that knew that Western Culture was superior to all others, that Christians were usually the moving force behind most good, and that by the time it was written, America had saved the world once and was on the path to do it again, a few times more. I miss those days when we knew we were good and right.
Of course not, if it is the revisionist history that so many liberals are touting these days.
