Has global warming stopped?
New Zealand Climate Science Coalition ^ | December 21, 2007 | Staff

Posted on 12/20/2007 9:41:33 PM PST by DaveLoneRanger

An assertion by the former science editor of the BBC, David Whitehouse in the reputable British journal New Statesman that global warming has stopped, should be taken very seriously by the world's climate science community, according to Bryan Leyland, of the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. Mr Leyland recently led a team of international skeptics to Bali for the UNFCC conference on climate change.

"David Whitehouse is no lightweight in the climate debate, and the New Statesman is not known for sensationalism, so an article in that journal saying that the global temperature of 2007 is statistically the same as 2006 as well as every year since 2001 is the basis for his claim that global warming has stopped has created quite a serious problem for those who believe than manmade greenhouse gases cause global warming. This is not what the climate models predicted. However it is in line with recent research and radiosonde data that fails to shows the heating of the upper atmosphere that identifies warming by greenhouse gases. So we need to know why the models failed to predict that warming would stop and why they predict an upper atmosphere warming that is not happening.

"There are many climate scientists in the world who endorse the observation of Mr Whitehouse that Global warming has, temporarily or permanently, ceased. Temperatures across the world are not increasing as they should according to the fundamental theory behind global warming - the greenhouse effect. Something else is happening and it is vital that we find out what or else we may spend hundreds of billions of pounds needlessly, " said Mr Leyland.

He added that anyone who still believes that the science is settled, as claimed by the IPCC and so many politicians and taxpayer funded bureaucrats, should read Mr Whitehouse's article in full in the New Statesman. The text is freely available on the internet at: http://www.newstatesman.com/200712190004

"Any doubts about the fact that the whole climate change issue is being mishandled by governments have been reinforced by Professor David Henderson, former head of the Economic Unit of OECD, now a visiting professor at Westminster University, whose recent illuminating address to the American Institute for Economic Research, which can be found on our website: http://www.climatescience.org.nz ," said Mr Leyland.

Yeah, but it’s just a temporary decrease. They will start again any moment now, on the inexorable march to a fried planet.

Al Gore told me so.

The polar bears where having a Christmas party tonight on the Discovery channel.

I wonder if they can predict how soon global cooling hysteria will begin?

Global Warming has stopped.
Global cooling has now begun. I foresee snowshovel shortages, a run on flannel, and a panic about the price of heating oil. Miami will have 5 feet of snow... in the summer. Polar bears will roam the streets of New York. Penguins will become the State Bird of Iowa. George Bush will be blamed for it. Hillary will claim she knew it all along.

**Announcement**

I will be officially resigning my volunteer commission as head of the Global Warming Ping list, and turning you over to the very capable hands of Tolerance Sucks Rocks, whom you've already gotten to know through his assistance with the pings.

I always knew I wouldn't be able to maintain this many lists, and that one or more of the others would take a higher priority. (For example, I'm making many strides in the field of defending the Second Amendment, and was on a local radio station just this morning, talking with the host and a state legislator about new legislation in favor of concealed carry on state campuses, which you may hear about in a month or two.)

It's been fun to laugh together at the foolishness of the alarmist chicken littles, and watch some of them be caught in their deception, and to watch Father Al slosh on-stage to receive a Nobel, and all the rest. I'll still be hanging around and posting, of course, but please in the future, if you want an article to appear on the ping list, send your pings to Tolerance Sucks Rocks to make sure they get there...I'll only be sending any pings I get along to him.

Merry Christmas, y'all, and stay warm this winter!

Global Warming has stopped.
Global cooling has now begun.

As you would expect. It's been a cycle of warming and cooling for as long as the Earth has been here and will be for as long as the Earth remains here. While there is little doubt that we have been in a warming trend, we now may be moving into the cooling part of the cycle, as you stated.

Either way, it's not a big deal.

It won't be much longer before An Inconvenient Truth has the same level of credibility as Reefer Madness does.

Has global warming stopped?

You'll have to check with al gore.

Presumably, when the law of diminishing returns sets in, it will be deemed to have been effectively reversed, and other subject will have been found for the Big Pimp.

NOT A BIG DEAL???

The price of flannel is going to go through the roof! Quilters will go on strike for better working conditions! Cats and dogs sold as footwarmers on the black market!
Chicken noodle soup will come frozen with a stick in it!

Not a big deal?

This is not what the climate models predicted.

What the climate models have predicted (a rapid rise of temperature in the tropical troposphere leading to global warming) has never taken place. This means that everything that is supposed to be a consequence of that must have other causes.

In the very recent past (couple millions years) we see periods of ice, and warmth, that go in 90,000/10,000 cycles with ice and warmth respectivly. The last ice age ended 10,000 years ago.

An assertion ... that global warming has stopped, should be taken very seriously by the world's climate science community,

It's much worse now though. Now we are faced with global itching caused by all the rubber from the tires on our cars. The tsunami of 2005 was an example of Mother Earth Scratching herself. Don't worry, though. If we set up a global governing body, everything will be fine.

I promise to increase my carbon footprint, to drive needlessly trying to find a closer parking space, to idle my car to warm it up on cold days, to barbecue animal carcass, to have campfires even when I am not camping so that I can do my part to save global warming. A warm globe is a happy globe I say!
