I mean political weakness. I agree with you on the terrorists rights issue. It’s not one I’m thrilled about, but lets face it, there are certain political realities on the matter. McCain’s history sort of boxes him in on issues of “torture”. He needs to be more clear on what is and isn’t torture, though. He should be saying “as a former POW who was actually tortured, I can tell you the stuff we’re talking about doesn’t fit any definition I knew.”

But when it comes to something like “waterboarding” that technique’s effectiveness has been neutralized because of all the attention it has been given by the Dems and MSM. The enemy has now trained against this technique because of this. It is no longer a viable technique, both logistically and for political reasons. So McCain can grab the “highground” by denouncing something totally obsolete anyways.

McCain is on my WILL NOT VOTE FOR LIST. Period....

This thing has a LONG way to go yet and it is my hope that either Fred Thompson of Duncan Hunter will be the one standing at the end. I have also said publicly that, in the end, I WILL support the Republican nominee. I have to admit that if that turns out to be McCain my resolve will be severely tested!

OK, but McCain would bring enough people onboard that he won’t need your vote.

McCain is going nowhere. Just a push by the media.

McCain has the experience and the consistency and the principled unwavering positions.

Like amnesty, the Al Qaida bill of rights, anti-tax cuts, pis*ing on the first amendment with McCain-Feingold, gang of 14, Keating 5 . . .

Though I put Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson as first and second choices respectively, I'd take a chance on Romney as third choice based on his distinguished record in the private sector (90% of his adult life).

Principled unwavering positions against the constitution are not positives.

“Gang of 14” tricked Democrats into confirming otherwise blocked judges and gave up absolutely nothing. It was a good thing. Sad that some people never were clever enough to figure that out.

This is all still media fodder. Rootie and Hillary are STILL the frontrunners. Hopefully Romney can take it away from rudy. Huck and Mclame are short term flashes.

I met John McCain last week. In the past, I would have quickly ruled out voting for him, based upon his support for amnesty and for the awful campaign finance “reform” bill, which wound up giving us 527 organizations (legalized slush funds for liberals). Frankly, he impressed me. He has clearly changed his mind on illegals - he now supports enforcement first, and I believe him. He has always been pro-Life - never an issue. He opposes higher taxes and has always fought for Federal spending restraint. I still think he’s mistaken on campaign finance, but that’s not a defining issue for me. Given the other “choices” - RudyMcRomnabee - I’m going to keep an open mind on McCain.

Like your tagline, but disagree on the gang of 14. Yes, we got a handful of qualified judges who had been languishing in limbo for months approved. But we gave up confirming a lot more qualified judges who could be filibustered.

At best, it was a wash. At worst, it was a temporary gain for a long-term loss.

Do you honestly think that when the Democrats control the whitehouse and the senate again, they will honor the deal made by the Gang of 14, some of whom will no longer even be in the senate?

The more I watch this Race, the more and more I say keep an eye on McCain... he stands the most to gain if the current top field (Romney, Guliani, Thompson) stumble. He’s clearly the dark horse in this race.

Thompson I think is DOA, lot of hype, not a lot there, his numbers haven’t moved an inch anywhere, and he’s doing nothing to move them.

Spot on. This baby's going all the way to the convention.

It's time to kick Iowa and New Hampshire to the side. Why not give Wyoming, Delaware, or any number of small states a turn at being the initial primary states? My first choice is Alaska, so that the MSM would absolutely wipe out their travel budgets. Another benefit would be getting these politicians far, far away from DC.

Love the idea, especially since it’s dark and cold in Alaska.

After watching McCain for the last 8 years, I know with 100% certainty that he cannot be trusted.

The report that McCain was somewhere near a “border” stopped me dead. I thought for a second it was the Arizona border, but then I realized that Johnny Mc wouldn’t be seen anywhere near the Arizona-Mexico frontier.

He is counting on democrats and liberal independents to give him the Repub. nomination. Although, in a way I would like to see him get it, then what Rush calls "Clinton Inc." would shred him. It would please me very much to see McCain destroyed.

LOL! Just think of the photo ops, with everyone bundled up like CPT Stillman (at the end of the movie "Stripes").

Just thought of another dynamic. Instead of the pols waxing eloquently about the national security aspect of ethanol, they could demonstrate a "conversion" on the need to drill in ANWR.

The more I think about this nonsense, the more I despise politicians.

Yep, I'm just as cynical. Out of every 100 politicians there is one good one, pretty poor representation.

Actually, I think McCain would make a decent VP candidate.

His presence would provide stability, military respect, and would get him the freak out of the US Senate where he has been abysmal.

I think you're wrong there. The Senate could at any time force a rules change to ban the filibuster on judges. But McCain and others knew that fortunes could be reversed. If judges are to be filibustered again, it will most likely be Republicans doing the filibustering. Banning the filibuster would have been a temporary gain at best, and possibly detrimental in the future. Just imagine this scenario: Hillary Clinton wins the election, the Senate remains in Democrat hands. Hillary decides to nominate Bill Clinton to the Supreme Court. Should this come to pass, you would have been crying if there was no longer a filibuster option.
