Our local country station played clips from when she and her dad were on Oprah. I heard it because it was on when I was driving home. She talked about visiting with a boy friend in her backyard. Meanwhile, her dad and a German Shepherd were sitting in the kitchen watching them. She even has an earlier curfew than most girls her age.

My generation’s parents thought our adoration of Frank Sinatra was ridiculous.

Having seen Frankie as an old man I never got it either. Then, I saw him when he was young and -- wowzers! :)

“At the age of twelve, Miley beat out over a thousand other girls for the Hannah spot. She is quite a performer, and learned how to be that way by touring many years with her father. Go Miley!”

I have seen her several times on the television talking as herself. She seems to be a lovely, well grounded young girl who has strong family ties.

Thankfully, there are a few people here that get it. Hannah Montana is another pop culture fad created to separate stupid parents from their money.

It’s okay for a child to watch a few clean TV shows here and there. Hannah Montana may appear to be clean on the surface, but it’s overcommercialization is not a good influence. Parents who indulge their spoiled kids with these fads will reap what they sow.

Teach your kids to think for themselves and not to follow the crowd.

Man, I think that is a great idea. And while we are at it, where is the little girl’s dad?

You should really think about writing a book for the rest of us STUPID parents.

All the hoopla aside, it will be interesting to see what happents to Miss Cyrus when she’s no longer permitted to use the name.

I doubt the litte girl had that brain-storm all alone.
I’m sure her Code-Pink mommies offered a title and topic, probably wrote the whole thing for the 6 yr old. (TexasCajun)

The handwriting on that little essay was not the handwriting of a 6 year old...something the judges should have noted immediately. I’m sorry the little girl will be forced to suffer the humiliation and embarrassment for the devious scheme of her conniving mother.

Why does an essay have to be non-fiction? Can’t it just be a story? The MSM pushes fiction off on us as fact on a regular basis.

Think it is mostly women Freepers that are upset about my comments about Hannah Montana. I unintentionally stirred up a hornet’s nest.

I am just trying to raise my daughter to be a responsible conservative and to think for herself. She loves to read more than she likes to watch TV. We let her watch a little TV on the weekends and maybe one show on a school night if her homework is done. But she knows that school comes first. She has won a lot of academic awards so I think our approach is working.

BTW, I also support Duncan Hunter. Chuck Yeager is one of my biggest idols and his endorsement of Hunter sealed the deal for me. I voted for Bush for governor and president. I support Bush on the war in Iraq but I am disgusted by the way his administration has handled immigration.

It is a good question about where is the little girl’s dad.
I wondered it myself. I hate to think he really is deployed and that a mom would even suggest such an outcome for the sake of concert tickets.
This thread has gone the wrong way with blaming Hannah Montana....it is about decency and a mother robbing her daughter of a lesson in values.
I don’t agree with the Libby Lu experience for girls under 10 either. Feather boas and hair extensions on a 5 yr old is ugly.

You should note I did not make any comments whatsoever about your daughter. Of course, you should raise your daughter as you see fit.

That doesn’t mean I don’t have my own opinions about pop culture, mass marketing, business, etc.

Who dressed that girl? Carol Burnett’s Mrs. Wiggens had better fashion sense.

Trying to raise your daughter to be responsible and conservative is fine. Those of us who allow our children to watch Hannah Montana or other things that you find inappropriate doesn’t mean we’re lazy or uncaring. We all have different ways, we all have different kids but I think we all try to do what we believe is best for them.

Now I’m an “old folk” and try to keep an open mind. The internet helps.
