Low-Key Thompson Stumbles Toward Finish Line
ABC ^ | 1/2/08 | Rick Klein

Two days before the Iowa caucuses — day 15 of his 17-day "hands down" bus tour — former senator Fred Thompson's campaign bus stood motionless in the snowy parking lot of a West Des Moines motel, across from a movie theater and a suburban strip mall.

Thompson's campaign scheduled only one event for New Year's Day, a meet-and-greet at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, about an hour outside Des Moines. Thompson, R-Tenn., shunned the bus, emblazoned with his picture, for the relative comfort of a black Chevrolet Suburban.

(snip)

Thompson has staked his campaign's prospects to Iowa. In seeking to jump-start his campaign last month, he promised to crisscross the Hawkeye State with visits to 50 cities and towns in 17 days aboard his new campaign bus.

To paraphrase a sign seen in Arkansas in 1969:

"Politics is only a game. Spiritual things are eternal. Nevertheless, Go Fred!"

Fred is not broke. But he is managing a tight campaign budget. He don’t float millions of dollars hoping to buy more support. But he has to have some money to move on.
The MSM is doing all they can to ignore his candidacy, because Fred is not lining their pockets.

I like Fred and will vote for him if he’s the nominee, just that I’m not going to worship him like most FReepers do.

Your candidate Paul got a good hour last evening with Beck...

Wow, a socialist “news” organization predicts doom for Fred, based on a projected vote by a disappearingly small segment of people participating in Kabuki theater.

The media won’t promote the ones who don’t advertise heavily.

While I agree with the premise (I used to be in radio and my ex was in both radio and TV advertising) I have to disagree about your premise of Thompson not spending money on adverts. I'm in Virginia and the majority of ads I've seen from the campaigns (not newscasts replaying them) have been Thompson ads.

Paul can sound good. But does anyone think he can actully pull off the BS he says he wants to do??
Paul is a loose cannon. Maybe good in congress. But President, no thanks.

He is not broke, nor will he be.

He is holding a tight budget and for a good reason. Also he has resources within the party faithful that are being directed his way to keep him just on the outer edge right now...

I wonder who Hunter is going to endorse when he withdraws next week?

That Hunter fellar is set for the next 33 days don’tcha know..... The FEC just awarded him $100,000 in FEC matching funds based upon his displayed abilities in 2007. As a comparison they awarded Tancredo $2.1 million in matching funds but Tancredo had enough foresight to see the future and dropped out.. That shows the difference between cream and spoiled milk.....

Okay....that was cryptic, and I'm not a politician. What's that mean in layman speak?

What a pile of crap! This is such a low blow article. It mentions that Thompsons bus is come to a cold stop in Iowa and tries to insinuate its an allegory for his campaign. Thompson might finish 3rd in Iowa which by any measurement would make him the comeback kid.

The leftist media MUST destroy anyone that could possibly beat Hillary.

“Lazy” is the ONLY thing they can tag him with....

He hasn’t flip-flopped on every conservative issue. He doesn’t have footage in a Dress, or dancing at a Gay Pride Parade. He hasn’t signed Socialist Healthcare into law. He is VERY clear about what he says, and he will DEFEAT every Democrat, HANDS DOWN...

So, what do we get from the Largely-Gay Mainstream media?

How about today’s story lines:

Logic suggests that it is hypocritical for one touting a 1%-polling candidate to pimp an article that’s critical of a rival because said rival is at 13%.

But this isn’t about logic. It’s not even about Hunter. It’s about your need for attention.

I assume the faster Fred drops out, the faster his conservative supporters will back the other conservative in the race, like they should have from day one.

But you don't post criticisms of Fred's conservatism, positions or policies. You criticize his campaign. Given where Hunter is in the polls, don't you think you should get your own house in order, before critizing others? Or is it just that Hunter's campaing is too pathetic to bother?
