pardons and commutations????

Yeah, Huckabee definitely let a misguided notion of Christian forgiveness dupe him into pardoning people he shouldn't have.

One caveat though: Since juries impose sentences rather than judges in Arkansas, I wonder if there were some emotion-driven sentences that needed to be cut down to size. On the bright side, he carried out the death penalty more than previous governors.

I'll report maam.

The REALLY strange thing about the Iowa caucuses is that R's and D's caucus at different places. But where R's have a secret ballot (theoreticaly. I've never been to one before.) The Dems is totally open. "If you support candidate XXX, Go stand in this group and if you support candidate YYY go stand in that group."

No secret ballot in the lefty world!

My sentiments exactly. We need a wartime President. There are several Republican candidates who fit that bill. Huckabee simply isn’t one of them.

It has been Hucks completely idiotic and downright IGNORANT foriegn policy statements that have made me decide I don't want him to even get a sniff of the WH carpets.

Once he said we should close Gitmo the flashing red warning lights came on and the claxons started ringing. Then when the moron APOLOGIZED for the Bhutto assassination I decided that there is no way at all that I would ever vote for him.

We do not need a Republican version of Jimmy Carter in the WH - EVER!!!!! A Huckabee presidency would DESTROY the Republican party for years.

For the first time in my life, there is a Rep. candidate that I WILL NOT VOTE FOR. I would rather live through the disaster of a Hillary, Obama, Edwards Presidency.

Rudy, Mitt, McInsane I could hold my nose for, but I can never ever forgive Huckabee for those downright stupid gaffes.

Actually, the GOP list is close with exception that John McCain is polling higher than ron paul is.

McCain is IIRC 11% and paul is at best 9%

Don’t you mean the way the DNC embedded caucus attendees want things to come out? Don’t kid yourself, I used to be a Dim and I attended caucuses, a bigger goat rope with no voice you’d be hard put to find. If they don’t get their way they complain until the tired attendees agree to let their vote go “undecided” or “uncommitted” and let the convention (the DNC) use it like they want.

Well, I assume then that you’re not supporting Huckabee, either.

You caught on to that :-). I'm a big Hunter fan, and I think he's getting a raw deal, while much less conservative candidates are being trumpeted here as "true conservatives". I'll be fair to Huckabee, and recognize both his pluses and minuses (and not call him evil). I just think on a scale of conservativism, Romney, Huckabee, and Thompson aren't that far apart, while Hunter beats them all soundly.

“Keyes beats Hunter? That’s gonna leave a mark.”

The reason I think that is because Iowa has so many Evangelicals that when it gets down to the lowest number candidates, all things being equal, it will break for the candidate with the strong religious position, hence Alan Keyes. I don’t think this is a good thing, but I am a realist.

No, they did not dislike him before he began his speaking tour of disrespecting another candidates religion, all to garner votes, FGS!

It was despicable.

Add to that his liberal parlance, his domestic populist campaign, and he has created a movement against him now. And he is obviously not a wartime President.

Mr Huckabee is not a victim of religious bigotry of any kind, do not try to make him so.

Huckabee cared more about the criminal than the victims —

In our case — we were lucky — he did NOTHING, which is better than a commutation —

We now just get to spend our vacation every year in Little Rock.

and BTW — I heard the judge impose the sentence of the accomplice.

the shooter (of my BIL) agreed to a plea of life to avoid the death penalty (this was in 1988) The accomplice is out of jail (and not on parole) after 5 years thanks to Bubba — and the shooter gets to keep bringin his case — thanks to Huckabee

maybe I should be more christian about those emotion driven sentences.

I don't like his lack of specificity on what he thinks government's role in the health care system ought to be, particularly when he promises "policies" that will "provide incentives" for preventative care.

I especially don't like some of the "preventative medicine" he has prescribed, such as a nationwide public smoking ban. It's hard not to wonder whether banning trans fats and the sorts of foods he himself eschews is far behind.

He does make some good points, however, such as that America needs to get away from employer-provided health care, and that we need to expand health savings plans. Still, he's light on specifics.

With things like ARKids in his past and his more recent refusal to say he would have vetoed the SCHIP expansion, I think it's safe to say his health care policy would be an extension of the Bush Administration's. While preferable to what the Democrats are selling, that's Not a Good Thing.

“Huckabee IS NOT a conservative.”

NEWSFLASH

Huckabee is the MOST conservative on MORAL issues.

To a GREAT many that register as Republican, that is the MOST important thing. So, to call him a liberal, ticks the BASE of the party off, because on how WE define conservative, he is one.

LIVE WITH IT, or risk having the GOP become insignificant when moral conservatives leave because you Goldwater types don’t want to share power. WE MORAL CONSERVATIVES brought all GOP victories since Ronald Reagan. The party must have us to WIN. So, either live with us and die without us. But, stop this damnable name calling because someone isn’t big business and can see the necessity to raise taxes to fix infrastructure in a rural state dependent on it.

Besides, even if Mike Huckabee wins in Iowa and gets some momentum into South Carolina, etc. He will not win in the big vote states during Super Tuesday. That will probably be McCain. IMO, the best Mike can achieve is to knock Romney out of the race and secure the VP slot. I think the final GOP ticket will be McCain/Huckabee.

Now, all that being said. I fully agree that of all the candidates on the GOP ticket that Fred Thompson is the most balanced conventual conservative (the three legs). I also agree he would make the best candidate to run in a general election. On national security I would feel best with him at the helm. BUT, Fred - unless a near miracle occurs - just isn’t going anywhere. It surprizes me, because I really thought he would. However, don’t blame Huckabee for Fred or anyone else’s demise.

The Evangelicals will be surprised to learn Keyes is a Roman Catholic and many Catholics don’t agree with him as he is wound to tight with his general beliefs.

I think you should let conservative evangelicals (which is defined as an evangelical that is staunchly pro-life, anti-homosexual agenda) speak for themselves. I am a conservative evangelicals so I can speak....at least for myself and some acquaintences.
