A Hard Loss for Romney (He's all but doomed now)

A Hard Loss for Romney By John Ellis

It's one thing to lose as you are. What you lose is an election, but there's always another election and in the case of presidential primary politics, a new electorate that awaits you in the next state. It's another thing to lose as you aren't. Mitt Romney was never the 700 Club right-winger his campaign managers conceived. He was and is a man of business and a very capable one at that.

He's all but doomed now. Senator John McCain will beat him in New Hampshire, probably by a lot, and Romney's media coverage will evaporate and his candidacy will consequently die. On January 9, his managers will walk in and say that the campaign needs $10 million or $15 million to continue and that he, Romney, will have to write the check. Everyone who would contribute has maxed out. Everyone who might won't. Two-time losers don't get new money. It's a basic rule of politics.

John Ellis was too nice to say it. But I will. ROMNEY IS A LIAR! This is why he is starting on the road to looooserville. He is a man who cannot tell the truth. Maybe people are starting to see it at long last?

Look up the definition for a cult in “Kingdom of the Cults” —

It will help clear out some cobwebs... LOL

Nobody but NOBODY nailed last night's results like
Howie Carr of The Boston Herald:

Romney ego trips and falls flat in Iowa
By Howie Carr | Friday, January 4, 2008

For Mitt Romney, it may be one and done. Last night he looked like an overrated second seed out of the Big Ten who gets upset in the first round by Campbell College.

As for Hillary, as my listener Ron from Norwood put it, she’ll be the one taking hostages at her headquarters in New Hampshire today.

Mitt not only got his teeth knocked out by Mike Huckabee, but the Huckster and his new plug, ugly Ed Rollins, mussed up his hair pretty good, too. Unless something happens this weekend - and debates have not been Mitt’s strong suit this year - he could be going down in the record books as the John Connolly, the Phil Gramm, the Steve Forbes of the 2008 race.

The guy who blew millions on an ego trip off a political cliff.

See you in New Hampshire, Mitt said last night. Yeah, at Lake Winnipesaukee, on Fourth of July weekend. Is it safe to say, Mitt, that Huckabee brainwashed the GOP voters of Iowa?

Maybe Mitt should have run for re-election as governor after all.

Instead, he had a press availability scheduled in New Hampshire this morning at 2 a.m. That must have been some wakeup call, not to mention a wake. Mitt can spin it all he likes that the Huckster had a natural base in Iowa, but that’s what money is supposed to overcome. That’s why they call it the mother’s milk of politics.

It must grate on Mitt that already the McCainiac rumpswabs of the press corps are promoting the Republican fight as McCain-Huckabee. But the fact is, Mitt’s been fading in New Hampshire faster than he did in Iowa. Like sharks, the voters smell blood in the water.

If there is the slightest glimmer of hope for Willard, it’s that Hillary’s wounded, too, and her flailing makes the Democratic ballot that much more attractive to the independents in New Hampshire in four days. For months now, the Barack Obama rallies have had the same feel as Deval Patrick’s last year - thousands of overweight Baby Boomer moonbats on prescription medication, the men in gray ponytails, the women knitting in their tent dresses, all of them in full swoon. How did Joe Biden describe Obama as a “clean” black man? The Boomers vote Obama, they feel good about themselves, their lives haven’t been a total selfish waste.

McCain’s Strait Jacket Express can’t match that karma, or star power. The Republican primary will have to be won among Republicans. And you can bet that Mitt is ready to hit the grumpy old man with everything but, as that folksy Huckster put it, the kitchen sink. Here is the Romney campaign’s weekend theme:

McCain = Ted Kennedy. Money will be no object. When you’re already down for $20 million, what’s another five? Whichever Republican finally gets Huckabee one-on-one wins. It’s the longest of long shots now for Mitt, but what’s he got to lose except Tagg’s inheritance?

But in the end, Mitt’s ad barrage won’t work. Because Mitt has the same problem Hillary does. They just don’t like him, or her. They don’t connect. Hillary is just so 20th century. Her husband was the ultimate Teflon politician, nothing stuck to him. She’s Velcro, unable to put across a single lie with the panache of her husband.

She’s got more money than God, and how is her campaign spending it? They’re buying ads on my radio show, and Rush Limbaugh’s. Michael Savage must have been sold out.

If she goes down in flames, how long do you suppose she and Bill will remain married? About as long as Rudy and Judy most likely. And how about Giuliani - you had to know that something was wrong in that campaign when they put Paul Cellucci and Joe Malone on the same bus in New Hampshire and thought the boys could bury the hatchet once and for all.

As for Fred Thompson, he didn’t do that poorly in Iowa, but what’s up with the 1:30 arrival this afternoon in New Hampshire? He’s ceding two news cycles in New Hampshire to his new worst enemy, John McCain, whose minions tried to sandbag him yesterday with the rumor that he was dropping out of the fight. We all thought Fred was a politician, it turns out he only played one on TV. And you know very well that Arthur, his character on “Law and Order,” would have been up at dawn this morning, thanking voters at a subway stop somewhere.

This campaign is off to a great start. This morning it looks like it comes down to Obama vs. McCain in the finals, but tomorrow, who knows?

Anyone for a brokered convention, or two?

I am interjecting that this means money. Rudy has it

But does he?

and he is strong in FL

Are you sure?

and CA.

I don't think so.

I agree that those are three things to keep a close eye on, but I think we'll see that Rudy doesn't have nearly the money he'd need and his old leads in large states are a thing of the past. He had, what, a 2 point lead in Florida, before Christmas? An 8-point lead in California in early December? Ancient history.

They who most needed to shield the public from their full records have given the public in those states

So Huckabee and Obama shielded voters from their real records? Huckabee has the record that Christian voters want?

So I guess Fred, McCain and the rest were less successful in shielding voters from their records?

Except that I think Mitt has too much ego and pride to endorse someone else. It would be a hard pill for him to swallow to endorse someone who fished behind him in both Iowa and New Hampshire. For that reason, I think Romney limps to the finish line instead, making sure to get his money’s worth.

No, I meant that as more of a statement. Fred has plainly stated that he isn't contesting New Hampshire. He's going to NH for the debates, then off to South Carolina.

I'm surprised Howie didn't know that.

If not Romney then who? I like Duncan Hunter a lot but he’s going nowhere. He has no money and hasn’t run a good campaign. If we nominate a buffoon like John McCain or Mike Huckabee then we are sure to lose to the Democrats. Is that what you want SoCalPol? Do you want another Clinton or worse Obama in the White House? We can’t afford that. No matter how bad you think Romney is, he is far superior to any of the 3 possible Democrats. SoCalPol, it’s people like you who get Democrats elected!

You said — “And if the Mormons get the idea they are pushed out because of their religion, you’re not going to have their help with whomever you want to put in.”

Well, do you think by now that they’ve finally got the idea that Evangelical Christians are not about to vote for a cult member for President of the United States? I hope so, because it will always be that way.

The problem that some of the Mormons have, is that they may be believing their own propaganda, when they try to tell other basic, historic and foundational Christians that *they* (i.e., the Mormons) are actually “Christians” themselves — and then in the next breath, explain how the Christians lost the “true Gospel” and how Joseph Smith has restored that lost Gospel.

Oh yeah, like that’s going to fly over ya, like a lead balloon.

I mean if the Mormons are believing their own propaganda that they are actually a church that teaches basic, historic and foundational Christianity — then they are really big fools. Of course they know that their church does not teach that same stuff. They know that very well. They’re just hoping other basic, historic, foundational Christians don’t know that.

What do they expect, when they try to tell such a false story that they actually teach the same kind of doctrines as the other basic, historic and foundational Christian churches do. Of course the Evangelicals are not going to let a group that lies like that — have one of their members become President. I mean, if they cannot even tell the truth about their own church, what do they expect we’re going to think of a Mormon candidate. Come on now..., do they think Evangelicals are that dumb??!

A Hard Loss for Romney (He's all but doomed now)

All the king's horses and all the king's men...aw heck, $80 Million couldn't convince the people after seeing his socialist policies in MA to vote for him.

Mitt, there's no ROI here. Please go home and enjoy your wonderful family. You can serve penance by reflecting on the evil you have perpetrated on MA folks with your socialist healthcare failure.

If I'm willing to run a man (or stalinist wench) out of town for implementing this tyranny as policy, I'm sure as heck not going to support him for President.

Take a hike, Mitt!

Uninsured Mass. residents face monthly fines starting in January (MittCare)

'Compact' on health expected from Patrick (Failings of Romney-care as quality crumbles)

Firms find ways around state health law (Romney-care reeks havoc on local business)

Health coverage rates will rise again (Romney-care drives higher demand and raises prices)

What is dumb is what you just wrote. You believe your own propaganda so much you don’t allow someone else to have different opinion. No big tent for you. “You either believe like we do or you’re out.” Mormons don’t claim they teach the same thing. They just have a different opinion about about what is correct Christian doctrine. Mormons have been voting for candidates who had different theological opinions for generation. Now they may learn they don’t get to play by those same rules. Mormons of the nineteenth century voted almost 100% Democrat. Don’t kid yourself that it can’t go back. When Mormons decide their future is in another direction, they move in mass. They have done it before and they can do it again. If you don’t think that could make a difference, read the article again.

Yeah, but the Catholics are not listed as a *cult group* in the “Kingdom of the Cults” — http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Cults-Walter-Martin/dp/0764228218/

You’ll note that this book is backed up and is edited by Ravi Zacharias, the same guy that the Mormons invited to speak at the Mormon Tabernacle (the same guy a lot of Mormons praised, as I read in the newspaper articles).

This is the standard and authoritative book for Christians to tell which groups are cult groups and not teaching basic, historic and foundational Christian doctrines. And as I said, the Catholics are not listed as a cult group — but — the Mormons *definitely* are listed as a cult group.

The Mormon teachings and doctrines are totally unrecognizable to Christians and do not represent Christian teaching and doctrine. I mean, even the Mormons know that. LOL... (they just won’t tell anyone else that they know that, therefore gaining the reputation of “lying through their teeth”).

You know, all the Mormons have to do is simply stop lying about their faith being like the Christian teachings and doctrines. You know they aren’t — we know they aren’t — you’re just hoping the gullible and stupid don’t know it....

Star Traveler

Yeah, but the Catholics are not listed as a *cult group* in the “Kingdom of the Cults” —

Walter Martin was an ignorant man. Why do you let him do your thinking for you?
We have had the definition of a “cult” posted several times on FR. The first requirement, according to this definition, is that they do not teach we are saved by works, only grace.
That definition therefore indicates that the Catholics are a cult.
I don’t think the Evangelicals can define what a Christian and a cult is. There are so many differences in Christianity, every time you try to make a definition you leave someone out you don’t want to leave out.

Why don’t you just stop trying to draw circles so you can be inside and someone else outside. It is childish game.

Well, you could have fooled a lot of people out there, listening to their propaganda ads on TV and elsewhere... LOL

But, you’re right, they don’t teach the same thing at all. They teach totally non-Christian doctrines. Any Christian who hears that Satan is Jesus’ spirit brother will know that — of course, if they don’t die laughing first...

Oh, and I read the article..., I knew it was the same type of lying and whining that I’ve hear before in regards to their theology claims... (supposed to be “Christian”.... LOL).

The author of the article starts his whining when he says — “pejoratively called ‘Mormons’ “. That’s been a shorthand method for the name of their church so everyone doesn’t get cramps on the tongue for saying the longer name. I mean, you have to reserve five minutes if you give the proper name.

We really know this guy is getting on his “high horse” when he starts spouting off like this — “These are the same people who shot, raped, killed and mobbed my ancestors out of Missouri and convinced that governor to sign an extermination order against Mormons.”

Oh please..., going around with about ten wives in tow, 100 kids and looking through peeping stones, translating golden plates with Egyptian hieroglyphics on them is liable to get anyone into trouble...

Then he gets up to his highest point and he hollers — “No Republican will win 2008 without us.”

Well, join the crowd, because no Republican will win without the Evangelicals. LOL...

Then he pulls the “Hitler card”... he says what if Huckabee was attacking the Jews...

Well, I can tell you that at least Huckabee knows that the Jews have the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and not some made up god like the Mormons have, where he’s some man in the past who somehow progressed to be a god, in his own right.

I wonder how the Jews think about that one — for God... LOL..

This guy is eaten up with his own Mormon propaganda, simultaneously trying to get others to believe that they are Christian in their teachings and doctrines, while at the same time knowing that they are not...

It must be difficult to lead a duplicitous life...

Star Traveler

The agenda is not bad. But it's not Mitt Romney's agenda, even if you believe a word he says.

More lies from the Romney camp aren't gonna get him the nomination, kid. Your desperation is pretty sad to see, though. Why people would tie up their hopes with a flip-flopping Massachusetts millionaire mystifies me. If you're gonna betray your principles, you might as least win something, not get stomped by an unremarkable governor with no money.

I see Mitt sent out new talking points.

Poor little Chuckie, you Mitt-worshipers are practically in tears! And may I say your tears taste oh so sweet :)

You said — “You kind have done more harm in hindering the work of God on earth than any other religion faith!”

It’s the non-Christian cult groups that have done the most hindering in the work of God.

If the Mormons would ever own up to their radically different doctrines and teacahings from Christianity — maybe some people could respect them more. But to keep lying and lying about those doctrines being the same as the basic, historic and foundational Christian teachings and doctrines is just too much lying...

You said — “Walter Martin was an ignorant man. Why do you let him do your thinking for you?”

Ummmm..., you had better get into the 21st Century... You’re talking about Ravi Zacharias. He’s the same person that the Mormons invited over to their Mormon Tabernacle, by invitation. He’s very clear in that book that the Mormons are a cult. He’s the one who is in charge of that book now...

You didn’t reference that book then, if you think it said they were a cult. It doesn’t. It’s considered the authoritative work on the cults for the Christian Church. If you’re going by someone else’s definitions, then you’re probably using someone’s personal opinion, instead of agreed-upon scholarly work....

Study up a bit before you comment on that information... LOL...

You said — “Define the word “Cult” in one sentence.”

Well, if you had been reading the other comments, you would have come across it already. It’s any group that denies any or all of the basic, historic and foundational doctrines of Christianity, which all the Christian churches hold in common.

Pretty simple, actually...

You thought that cliched line was “the “take home line” ??
O - kayyy.

Personally, I thought his Romney and Hillary lines were far more original and funny, but whatever.... I was a little disappointed that Howie didn’t say much about the slimy Huckabee and his use of Christianity as a political gimmick. But then, this is only the beginning of the campaign season!

Cheers!
