McGovern: Impeach Bush, Cheney Now
CBS News ^ | 1/6/08 | David Morgan

Posted on 01/06/2008 10:37:13 AM PST by melt

(CBS) The former Democratic nominee for president who ran against a president later driven from office under threat of impeachment, today said that impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney is "the rightful course for an American patriot."

George McGovern, a former South Dakota Senator who ran on the Democratic ticket in 1972 as an anti-war advocate, wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post that, while he steered clear of calling for the impeachment of Richard Nixon in the '70s - fearing it would appear as "an expression of personal vengeance" against his opponent who won re-election in a landslide - McGovern said after seven years of the current administration, he has "belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment" of the president and the vice president.

McGovern also called the case for impeaching Mr. Bush and Cheney "far stronger" than what was the case against President Nixon and Vice President Spiro T. Agnew after the 1972 election.

McGovern admits that while there is little bipartisan support for instituting impeachment hearings (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, has announced that impeachment is "off the table"), he said, "Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses.

"They have repeatedly violated the Constitution.

As I said on the previous thread...

MCgovern: “Of course, there seems to be little bipartisan support for impeachment.”

Huh.

A sitting President was caught lying under oath in a workplace sexual harassment lawsuit — one where he was the accused executive level predator and the victim was a hapless low level employee.

Seems that “bi-partisan” support for an impeachment would be a snap.

But where were all the democrat hack Congressmen (and women) who pilloried Clarence Thomas based upon spurious allegations from a person whose sanity had been questioned?

They were NOT willing to step up to impeach OR convict.

Mr. McGovern, those of us who are old enough remember your anti-American record from way back. Now sit down and shut up.

Good luck on doing that in an election year. Except for the moonbats, the country isn't interested in impeachment. The Democrats aren't even raising it in the campaign.

McGovern was a treasonous nitwit back in 1972, nothing has changed today. Wasn’t his daughter one of Slick’s distracions and one that really PO’d Monica Lewinsky?

This is the Washington Post editors’ idea of meaningful commentary in an election year! Thoughtful and insightful!
How do they manage to feed and clothe themselves, and get from point A to point B with their heads to far up their nether parts? And I am supposed to take their rag seriously, as a “newspaper of record.”

I’d say ‘keep it up you loons’, but the darkest truth is that these repeated calls for impeachment feed a disinterested public’s perception that the ‘culture of corruption’ that the liberals painted the Republican party with continues.

Isn’t Jefferson’s trial this month?

Well this is certainly in character for McGovern. Belated, parroted, and irrelevant.
