QUITO, Ecuador Ecuador's Tungurahua volcano is poised for a major eruption, a volcanologist said Wednesday. Authorities last week evacuated 10 villages from its western slopes as a precaution.
Patricia Mothes, a U.S. expert on volcanoes, said the 16,575-foot volcano, located 80 miles southeast of Quito, "is preparing to generate, in days or weeks, a great eruption."
She said that could mean pyroclastic flows blasts of volcanic material "that descend at high speeds and burn everything in their way."

Rove’s Ecuadorian Volcano Eruptor etc...
US taxpayers, get out your wallets....
Could be hugh and series.
Women, children, poor, transsexuals hit hardest...
Look's like Mother Nature will beat us to it.
Think of the carbon credits that mountain will have to buy!
Gold lame and pyroclastic flows are just never a good mix!

Tungurahua has been smoking for several years, and has had a pretty impressive eruption within the past 5 years, if I recall correctly.
BTW, the current president ran on an anti-US platform. It will be interesting to see the justfication if aid should be required.
That pic...it looks more like a blow out from the side instead of the top.
Meanwhile, the U.S. will rapidly deploy a large, well equipped, well supplied, and well prepared contingent of rescue and aid workers. The NYTimes and their ilk will criticize the U.S. for some combination of: being in too big a rush & not cooperating with the international efforts still being “planned” by the U.N.; taking too long; using military ships and aircraft in a humanitarian crisis; not having enough military equipment available for the mission, because it's tied up in Iraq; wasting money; and not spending enough.
I hope we don’t get an ash covered “after” picture next week.
That’s not too bad. I was picturing a few meters of ash, collapsing roofs etc.
Hold on, there is a volcano currently erupting in Chile, it has been for the last 4 days
Mt Llaima, situated in the Conguillio National Park, about 650 km (400 miles) south of the capital, Santiago.
Somebody needs to figure out just how much Greenhouse Gas this and the Equadorian volcano pump into the atmosphere. I bet they put many, many more times the amount than we can ever eradicated through conservation strategies.
In other words, the GW Carbon Credit crowd are pissing up a rope when it comes to affecting world climate with their stupid conservation strategies.
Oh no !! All that ash in the air. Global cooling?
This volcano has been erupting off and on for years now. A few years ago they completely evacuated the resort town at its base, the army occupied it to prevent looting. Eventually it calmed down, and the inhabitants were allowed back in.
Its a picture perfect volcano.
At about the same time the volcano at the edge of Quito was acting up, and they were gearing up for an eruption there, which in the end didn’t happen. Lots of ash, though.
Oh, well, seeing that picture, it’s obvious everything is nice and safe. ;’D
