Geist: Take Away the Charm and Huckabee's a Crackpot

If a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, does Mike Huckabee's sweet way with a word make tolerable views that would be rejected as extreme in the mouths of others less verbally gifted?
That's Willie Geist's view of the matter. The genius of the Morning Joe panelist normally resides in his ability to avoid the controversial while remaining interesting. But the anodyne-if-endearing Geist went out of character in today's opening segment on the subject of Mike Huckabee. And he did so in a manner the former Baptist preacher might not find so fetching.
The subject was a speech Huckabee gave yesterday in which he advocated changing the Constitution to adapt to the word of God.

Nevertheless, he is sort of charming.

So I guess Scarborough's a hatchet man for McCain too, then.
What a maroon.

Take Away the Charm and Huckabee's a CrackpotCharm = Moralizing quips... Crackpot = Huey Long populist. What you got here is an Arkansas poison-pill for the Republican party in 2008.

Actually Scarborough blasted McCain yesterday for being a hypocrite and using “dirty campaigning” for circulating negative fliers about Romney after promising not to go negative.

Actually, I was referring to when Scarborough whined about Fred Thompson attacking Huckabee at the debate.
Maybe Joe sees now that there's a good reason for Fred to be going after Huckabee that doesn't involve his wild conspiracy theories.

Thanks for the clarification.

I've never seen any charm in Huckabee...then again maybe thats because I'm listening to what he says, and looking at what he's done.
Huckabee is a national disaster waiting to be elected.

That’s about right.
Though I would add that *uckabee’s “charm” doesn’t wear well over time.
It’s gotten pretty thin already.

Interesting...I don’t find Huckabee all that charming.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
I believe the original Constitution was in Gods standards. Huckabee is way to naive on foreign policy and domestic policy. He needs to explain his strategy for amending the Constitution and how his administration would get it done. I don’t believe he has any idea. I think he is just telling evangelicals what they want to hear. I think he knows he can’t get a life amendment passed.

He is overreaching. In politics that usually means a flame-out is on the way.

But, so far, it is the Republican voters in OTHER states who have voted Huckabee to his current position in the 08 race.
Of course, the Republican Party has never been accused of being the Party of Smart.

A motto for Huckabee's campaign:
Huckabee -- because the Republicans need their own Jimmy Carter
