No, they did not vote for a Conservative, they voted for Romney. Never make that mistake; Romney is a chameleon, untrustworthy politically. Ask those who suffered with him governing in Massachusetts. The Big Dig was where their state GOP was buried.
Being a successful businessman does not make one a conservative: Ted Turner, John Heinz, Bill Gates, etc. are perfect examples. Being wealthy does not mean being Conservative - look at Hollywood and the rest of the DemonRats. Romney, like Huckaboob, will say whatever it takes to get elected. That is what he is about: getting elected. Once he wins, there is no guarantee what he will do - other than the assurance that it will benefit Mitt Romney.
At least with Huckaboob we know what we will get - a tax and spend, illegal alien enabling, soft-on-criminals (as long as they claim to have found Christ)two-faced politician - a man who is like one of those Americans who probably can’t find the Iraq without a map (she should have been Miss Arkansas), a lying man who uses the name of the Lord for his own benefit, a man who does dirty campaigning with one hand, and holds up the clean one to say he is pure, a man who does not hesitate to steal the platforms and ideas of others without giving the credit where it is due.
McCain at least has a record - a former POW who is opposed to nearly everything we believe in, someone who presents himself as being strong on defense, but wants to let the terrorists onto our soil to have lawyers knock each other over to set them free, a man who wants open borders and amnesty.
With Romney, you just don’t know - like others from Massachusetts, he was for (choose a subject) before he was against it before he was for it before he was against it.
Without FRed, we would have only two choices - social liberal but strong on defense Guiliani, or “no defense, no sense” Paul. So - we are still left with only one Conservative, Fred Dalton Thompson. Stop drinking the MSM Kool-aid; stop calling for his withdrawal; stop thinking abut who to throw away your vote on. Vote for Thompson, and wait for the convention to allow the delegates to save the Reagan coalition.

Being a pastor is highest and most noble calling a man can have. I will always encourage successful pastors who want a demotion to run for any secular office to which they are called.

but as far as literalists and fundamentalists and Pentecost types (which I am more or less) even though I was raised SBC and attend SBC....I only know one Huckster supporter....every one I know preferred Fred.
but they will probably support Huckster over Queeg or Rudi....but many will go for Mitt is he moves right as quick as his little feets will carry him

Huckabee appointed no Conservatives while president of the Arkansas Southern Baptist Convention. He only appointed revisionists and Liberals and stood in opposition to the reforms sought by Adrian Rogers and others. It was only when he saw the handwriting on the wall that he pulled his usual tactic of siding with the new winners. He is a man who seeks Man’s approval over God’s approval. I truly hope the next SC poll shows Huckabee in third and continuing to drop.
Why don’t you look into his dealings with Novo Nordisk, the gift registries, immigration then and now, and the reality of taxes in Arkansas before you defend the man. I’ll give you a small headstart:

Should have been FL poll... sorry. I cannot document the Florida ad buy as I thought I could. It was a blog entry by a campaign worker and there are too may thousands of them to weed through with no search. The last I saw, somewhere in December, Thompson had $7million on hand and Huckabee $600,000. They announced plans to take the huge extra amount from their truck fund raiser and put it into FL and later states as they got more than they needed for Iowa and South Carolina.
I am no Dobson. I cannot speak for Huckabee’s status with God. His testimony, however, leaves much to be desired. I was truly hoping we would get a genuine, conservative Christian in the race this time. My opinion is he did not.

Well, I guess I’ll vote for Romney now. At least it saves me the agony of deciding whether to throw my vote to Fred as a Valentine. I have always believed he entered too late, and as a physician, I strongly suspected his health wasn’t up to the physical challenge.

Disagree there RachelFaith. This whole mess started with Bush I, who won 40 States in the general in 1988, including California, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He squandered an opportunity, even with sky high approval ratings after Gulf War I, to advance the Reagan legacy by pandering to democrats. Remember “read my lips.” The GOP has been on a downward slope ever since. Heck, even when the Pubbies got control of Congress it didn’t matter, and we know how long that lasted.
Sure Fred had some faults, at least as seen by political junkies like many here at FR, for example, CFR and tort reform. But those types of issues are far from the general public’s mind. Most of them don’t even have any idea what they are. The two biggest items on the agenda for 2008 are the economy and national security. I could be dead wrong, but I think none of the remaining candidates would be strong on either of those issues, especially with a Democrat led Congress that does not have a clue of how to address them with any common sense.
Fred’s biggest mistake was not getting in early enough in Iowa and possibly New Hampshire. If he had, he might have stopped the Huckabee boomlet in Iowa, resulting in a three man race for the prize, between Fred, Mitt and McCain. I am excluding Giuliani from the remaining pool since his strategy of capturing the big States and ignoring the early primaries was doomed to fail from the get-go, not including his considerable baggage at odds with many of the GOP base voters.
So what do we have left. Mitt, a Bush lite?, from a State he probably can’t win in the general. The infamous “Gang of 12” McCain. Huckabee from Hope, AK, who is running on fumes. And last but not least, Ron Paul, another also-ran, who I expect we will see again in 2012.
Be prepared for a Clinton III/Richardson combo in the general this fall. It will be tough to beat.

It seems to me the people who will avoid making a choice are the disgruntled conservatives who plan on staying home on election day. Hillary Clinton will probably send them a big thank you note.
Face it, conservatives had two slam dunk choices in Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter, yet both are out for lack of support. Who’s fault is that?

Hillary / Ted... but yeah... it will be damn near impossible to stop because the GOP refuses to DO what it is supposed to do... and refuses to stand for the same.
Until we get past this “electability” issue... we’re doomed to nominating Bob Dole Losers and Bush traitors.
