I see no difference between old McCain and Clinton.They are both Democrats as far as I am concerned.I love how the media hated the Iraq War and now can find it in their hearts to embrace Old McCain who knows the “surge” is a “surge “ to nowhere .It was just to stop the media`s antiwar stance and allow McCain to keep US soldiers in the Middle East for 100 years if necessary.The ‘Surge” was to stop the violence and let the Iraqi government take over.We are not building huge bases over there for the short term.Ge has to make their money.
I was in Texas in 1984 and voted for Jesse Jackson in the primary. I was quite proud of myself at the time. Now I’m getting a bit a cold plate of revenge served to me, I’m afraid.
Newt is pandering to the democrats for 2012. He knows that the bunch of garbage we have running now can’t beat them (other than Rudy and people are too stupid to think about what issues are the most important in this country to vote for him in the primary); thus we are getting a dem for POTUS in ‘08. He’s licking his chops to take the country back in 2012.
I’m laughing at myself now. When he first talked of pitching his hat into the political arena, I thought I wouldn’t vote for him due to his baggage. Now, I’d jump at the chance to vote for him.

But not overly into research, since Nevada voted for Romney. He isn’t a conservative candidate.
I can’t fathom that Thompson voters would go to McCain or Huck. And I think that even if Thompson endorses McCain (which I think he’ll do, if he drops out).
This Thompson voter will not. I’ll be voting for Rudy on Super Tuesday. I will only vote for Romney in the general if he wins the election by holding my nose (and am considering a write-in instead).
P.S. Bob Dole lost in a three way race. Might have been different without Perot. AFAIK, he also did not attract independents the way McCain does. And he had a much stronger RAT opponent than Hillary

You’re right of course. The GOP caucus here was a mess with a lot of people given incorrect information. I believe that if we’d have had correct information out to everyone or had our old primary instead, Romney would not have won by the margin he did. However, he is a *westerner* in a lot of people’s minds and that counts for something here.
The fact that Ron Paul was second gives you some idea of the mindset here. No insults please :) Many people here want small federal government with the federals out of our business.
Hey, small gov’t is a *good* thing. If Ron Paul wasn’t such a nutter and believed in keeping America strong and safe (which includes closing our borders), he would have had my vote. Protecting this country from her enemies is the most important issue to me. Everything else runs a distant second. Troop withdrawal and destabilization of the middle east isn’t the way to do it.
I know this sounds melodramatic, but I am afraid we may be witnessing America’s downfall and I am sickened.

RP does believe in closing our borders and ending all entitlements to illegals, including birthright citizenship. He also very strongly believes in protecting America and Americans, with a strong defense. He does not believe that the way to do it is with UNDECLARED wars. He fully supports any war that Congress declares as such. I think that is a big misunderstanding of his policies by a great many people. Most people don’t get past his concern with us trying to free the world and then supporting them. We have no legal right or basis for doing so.
Then there is no chance for victory.

Yes, Rudy or Romney will get my vote, but our primary is usually meaningless. I could vote for just about any rep for pres in the general, with the exception of huck.
I hear you, and agree to a certain extent. I’ll be honest, 8 years ago I was horrified at the thought of Bush possibly being our nominee. I was from Texas and watched him get his revenge on Ann Richards, then Ross Perot, and knew Saddam Hussein would be next. I told all my friends that if he is elected, we would be back in Iraq within a year. You just don’t mess with his Daddy and get away unscathed.
When the towers went down, I knew. Here we go. Then I was thrilled we were going to Afghanistan instead and I wanted blood (as did 99% of this country that seem to have forgotten), but sure enough, we eventually went to Iraq.
I wasn’t pleased, I was hoping for Syria, Libya, and the like. I was ANGRY and wanted them all turned into a rock pile. I hoped Iraq would be over quickly and we would move to the next one. It didn’t happen as I hoped, and I don’t agree with how it was done, but it has been successful in slaughtering terrorists that poured into Iraq to fight. This is a good thing, imo.
To have done nothing would have been humiliating. In hind-sight we can see that perhaps going to Iraq wasn’t the best choice, but we are now there and it has to be finished. We cannot pull the troops and leave the Middle East to civil war and destruction. The Iraqi people have sufferred greatly at Saddam Hussein’s hands, but also our own. For the first time in 30 years, there is hope in Iraq due to our staying and rebuilding of their country. We cannot in good conscience take that away from them. To do so would be the most shameful act in America’s history and make us terrorists ourselves as the dems so dearly love to label us, imo. I am proud of this country and all it has been for the last couple of hundred years. I am not about to vote to disgrace her now as so many here in FR seem to want to do. I will vote for the candidate that I feel will be the best to fight the WOT and protect this country. Silly as that may seem to many.

I would be very distressed to see Iraq descend to civil war and the people there in more misery. I keep thinking though, that we have accomplished our mission there, as wrong as it was to start with. And that if it became apparent that our troops would be coming home, the Iraqi people would step up to the plate and take over. No matter who says what, removing the troops cannot be accomplished in a day. At this point, supposing Ron Paul were elected, it would be one year at a minimum before he could put that in motion. As with any of the candidates elected who want to bring the troops home.
And I would very much like to see troops come home from German, Japan, Korea, etc. At this point, we are doing nothing except supporting their economy and providing them with defense forces that they can well afford to do themselves.

I’ve often told my husband that if it weren’t for abortion, there would be no republican party. He scoffed, laughed, said I was crazy, but after seeing the love affair a large segment of the evangs have with Huckabee, he now knows I am right.
Good news is that this is nothing new, it’s always been this way— which is why the coalition came together in the first place. We just haven’t find the right “complete conservative” candidate yet (a “Reaganesque” candidate) to attract enough of the “swing voters” (aka, idiots/ lemmings/ shallow tards) to go along with us. And yes, the Great Ronald Reagan attracted idiots, for all the wrong reasons, but it was important to have their votes. Fred was ALMOST there...
