Check out the scratching and biting scene at 'Kinky U'
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | January 26, 2008 | KATHERINE KERSTEN

There's some serious scratching and biting going on at the University of Minnesota.

An intramural rugby match? Or time to call campus security?

Nope. It's just another field of inquiry for the dedicated scholars at "Kinky U," a student fee-supported offshoot of the U of M's Queer Student Cultural Center (QSCC).

QSCC already sponsors groups that journey down every sexual side-road and identity bi-way imaginable. Its 14 member groups range from "Biversity" (for "bisexuals, pansexuals, omnnisexuals, and those who prefer no labels") to "Tranarchy" (for "those who identify as transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, intersex, or gender diverse.")

Yes, you might think there's already something for everyone at our flagship institution of higher learning.

But Kinky U aims to reach out to groups still not fully embraced (so to speak) by the university community. It's "a social and discussion group" for those interested in "all forms of kink, including roleplaying, leather, BDSM [bondage, discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism], and much more," according to QSCC's website.

"The term 'kinky' can include anything from biting and scratching, 'which is pretty common,' to power exchanges and bondage," said the Daily, quoting Michael Lent, the group's facilitator.

Lent declined to be interviewed for this column. But the handcuffs pictured on Kinky U's Web page are worth a thousand words.

Kinky U is now seeking to make kink mainstream by becoming an official student club in its own right. "We've definitely had a lot of interest," said Justin Jagoe of the QSCC. He added that he expects the process to be completed within a few weeks, though a student-led board must still give its approval.

"This is a big step for sexual freedom," Lent told the Daily. "It's a milestone for the U and even for the metro area."

More of our tax dollars are needed to support the U’s latest “higher education” project.

intramural rugby match?

Did the author mean to concede that women's club rugby is synonymous with "lesbian"? At least there's an admission.

Minnesota ping, though not one you’ll want to brag about.

It sounds like this reporter ALMOST disapproves of Kinky U, but fears it might be too judgmental to actually say so.

At most, she suggests that this may not be the most cost effective way to spend the university’s scarce funds. And it might even possibly offend some of the parents if they were to find out about it.

Goodness, we can’t have that.

This is my greatest gripe with the way colleges are run. Student fees paid by every student support the continued perversion of our nations culture. These fees are non-voluntary. If you or your kid wants to go to this school you have no choice but to pay for this obscenity.

Maybe the U could apply for a program-funding grant from some of the Twin Cities' liberated mainline denominations, who are also pretty adept at semantic subterfuge.

Some may be surprised to learn that this is the sort of knowledge the university is helping to disseminate, especially because it is apparently always short of resources. But they shouldn't be surprised.

At the U, as in much of academe, the language of "health and safety" has hijacked our old vocabulary of right and wrong.

Katherine Kersten is the newspaper’s only bona fide conservative columnist; she’s using a little gentle sarcasm.

Ah. So it's a swinger's club.

Most schools support these anyway, they just call them frats/sororities.

Where is Harold Stassen? He was such a nice man and the people up there were so much better behaved when Harold was there.

Maybe the state legislators, who are asked to apportion funds for the university, will remember this program when the U comes hat in hand.

(for "bisexuals, pansexuals, omnnisexuals, and those who prefer no labels")

Pansexuals? Is that like people who only have sex in the kitchen?

What a bunch of self-absorbed freaks.

Strange. I think I counted about 89 newly minted "genders" in Kersten's article.

Though you probably meant this in a sarcastic manner, since the Dems control the legislature, it really wouldn't surprise me if they actually did remember it... in a favorable way.

Just like your taxes going to all manor of things not authorized by the Highest Law of the Land, The Constitution. Those fees are in fact taxes.

True if it is a state university. But most private schools also have activity fees to support similar obscenities.

The school should not permit this to be a club. Can you imagine when parents and HS Seniors come to visit and the school hands them a list of clubs? What does the school plan to say when they inquire about “Kinky U”? I certainly wouldn’t want my sutdent fees to go support that perversion.

Don't feel too bad. I went to Macalester, which has actually probably slightly improved since I went.

I've never even heard of these. And they want to go mainstream.

What is the difference between a pansexual and an omnisexual? What are those who prefer no labels?

The mind reels.

The sad part is that the University of Minnesota likely has an endowment in the BILLONS! That’s with a “B”, Folks!

Plenty of Christians are donating BILLIONS of dollars to schools and universities that are dedicated to destroying the Judeo Christian principles upon which all freedom arises? Are these Christians NUTZ????!!

When are Christians going to wake up?

If we are ever going to turn this culture around we need to strengthen Christian education. We need BILLIONS in private vouchers going to private K-12 schools.

This “Kinky U” could not sustain itself if armies of righteous youth ( supported by righteous parents) showed up on campus prepared to combat the atheistic Marxists running these universities.
