HOW RUDY TOPPLED FROM POLITICAL PEAK (mountains of negative stories)
NY POST ^ | January 30, 2008 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 01/30/2008 8:03:49 AM PST by Liz

HE HAD HIGH HOPES: Giuliani, with third wife Judith Nathan, signs autographs in NH a year ago. He lost NH to John McCain.

Rudy Giuliani sailed into a political perfect storm. After nearly a full year of leading in the polls and dodging early fumbles, his image of electability sank as his poll numbers tumbled. He faced mountains of negative stories about disgraced ally Bernie Kerik, and spent two weeks punching at shadows over reports alleging that, while mayor, he deliberately hid security expenses related to his then-mistress. His campaign never got its arms around the story, and it took a visible toll on Giuliani - who then wasted another week dodging questions about a health scare aboard his campaign plane. When voter concerns shifted from the war to the faltering economy, Giuliani's rationale faded. His bogeyman, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, lost her aura of inevitability. His team badly misread the depth of his support. Giuliani telegraphed concern about his own strategy of using Florida as a "firewall" to blunt early losses before Feb. 5 by saying in November that he could win New Hampshire. But he soon retreated - after spending north of $3 million on direct mail and TV ads, only to see his polls numbers dive.

They just don’t want to touch on the fact that Rudy’s disdain for the 2nd amendment has anything to do with this.
It is just another attempt to marginalize us.

I think the election is rigged from the start.

We had a whole bunch of liberals trotted out front by the RNC hacks in D.C. with their willing accomplices in the media, on Madison Avenue, and in the bowels of DNC hell.

The illegal immigrant proxy invasion and the economic proxy invasion of Chinese goods will eventually tear down the U.S. manufacturing base.

Now, the big Wall Street geniuses want their Keating Five bailout man to stick us with the bill for the subprime lending and mortgage failures.

Giuliani was just one of their leftist dupes people rejected.

It isn’t over yet...

Rudy was toppled NOT by the media, but by himself. Between an incompetant campaign (DuHaime will be lucky to get a job running a school board election), a f—k you attitude towards the smaller states, and a tin ear when it came to meeting the movement conservatives even half-way, he effectively ceded his turf to McCain.

Say what you will about the guy, but the liberal establishment really, really, really hates his guts.

Uh, who do you think elected him in the first place? It was LIBERAL DEMOCRATS who make up the majority of the NY electorate. Rudy won the Jewish vote, got 43% of the Latino vote and even got 20% of the black vote (the latter for his second term run against Messinger).

(True) Independents, Republicans and (dare I say it) white Christians are a small minority in NYC.

That was the big mistake he made. His own arrogance did him in. Had he been willing to meet movement conservatives halfway, he could have easily had the nomination in the bag, although he would have lost the general. We were lucky he was so pig-headed...

We would be stuck with *that* particular bill, regardless, Sir Francis... One of the prime players being Citicorp, who just happens to be a substantial chunk of not only the US Federal Reserve, but the International Monetary Fund/World Bank absolutely precludes any other outcome. *WE* are going to be forced to pay the bill for their short-sighted greed, no matter who occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue this time next year.

Is it fair? Hell no!! But, it's reality...

From my standpoint, this front page photo in the New York Post (dated almost exactly a year ago) was the beginning of the end of his political aspirations. This was the one thing that turned my dislike of Giuliani into complete revulsion.

As soon as I saw the depths to which this New York City tabloid rag would sink (i.e., splashing an airbrushed propaganda photo like that -- in which that hag wife of his was made to look young enough to be his daughter -- on the front page) in order to prop up his candidacy, I started to get very suspicious about what exactly this unrepentent leftist was really all about.

FWIW, this is what Giuliani's wife really looks like . . .
