MITT MIFFS W ON BORDERS (Bush exasperated with Romney's hard-line immigration stance)
NY POST ^ | February 2, 2008 | Robert Novak

Posted on 02/02/2008 12:44:12 PM PST by Liz

President Bush has maintained neutrality but privately expresses exasperation with Romney's hard-line stance on immigration......Bush is upset Romney changed his position at the expense of the president's immigration reform. Bush and McCain are not close, but he's grateful for McCain's support on Iraq and immigration.

Florida Gov. Crist's unexpected late endorsement, which helped propel McCain to victory, was an unpleasant surprise to state Republican leaders. Crist had said he was not making an endorsement after shunning Giuliani's courtship and suggested that they also stay neutral. His support for McCain irked Republican activists who generally would have preferred former Romney. Romney carried heavily Republican Collier and Lee counties in SW Florida by substantial margins.....voters McCain will have to win over if nominated.

God who does McCain have a bigger crush on these days, Bush or hillary?

Including POSITIONS on those principles, Mitt.

I agree with your analysis. I believe it's honest. But then again, any Army officer will tell you...hope is not a plan.

Good Lord. It never ceases to amaze me how completely out of touch the President really is with the country. Comments like this leave me wondering if I really did vote for the right man in 2000 and 2004. I want to believe voting against Al Gore and John Kerry was the right thing, but I now wonder if it wouldn't have been easier to maintain conservative momentum without this "conservative" President always running interference for the democrats and other leftists.

LOL look how short McCain is next to Bush and Bush is no giant. No wonder he hates Romney!! If you looked like McCain who wouldn’t be?

My daughter has that trouble, she is very pretty and the others girls don’t like to take her places, because all the boys try to hit on her. Guess it is the same with McCain and Huckster. Jealousy is a Bitch.

So the question is....if we all vote for him, will Mitt stay bought? Does he honor his contracts?

Many of the people here are criticizing Mitt for the fact that when Mitt changed his viewpoints during his term of office, he still enforced some of the views on which he'd campaigned. He still governed to the right of his constituency.

Seriously, if a politician's views change to be at odds with his campaign platform, what should he do:

  1. Start enforcing his new views, probably against the will of his constituents?
  2. Keep enforcing the views on which he was elected, until the next election?
  3. Resign immediately?
I can't fault Mitt Romney for not doing #1. And I'm not sure #3 would have served Massachusetts any better than #2.

It seems to show that Bush supports him but that he changed direction to get elected. Kind of a back handed endorsement but hey congrats:’)

First things first! -- Build The Fence!!

Even Liberal Jaun McClinton has gotten the message!

No he has not, the POS anyways says we must secure the border and when the governor sign off on his brown paper bag we can proceed. Of course the next part would be a comprehensive amnesty.

I will say this. McCain doesn’t look nearly as old and deformed as hillary looks up close.

Thank you, Mr. President, for reminding people of why we should avoid McCain like the plague and support Romney.

This might explain President Bush’s surprise announcement that he’s attending CPAC next week, along with the surprising information that McCain is also attending.
