Republicans in commonweath realms tend to be leftists of the Democratic Underground type not people most Freepers would associate with.

And that ‘leave your comments’ section has plenty of Americans who have left the usual messages about how America saved Britain, won two world wars basically alone, has always done the west’s heavy lifting(again alone)....the usual ‘bar-room’ history. One idiot even posted that Britain has little counter-insurgency history and what it does was unsuccessful, which manages to be woefully wrong on two counts, helluva trick in one short paragraph.

The petty arguments on that page arent all one-sided...

My reply should have read ‘what it did’, not ‘what it does’.

I am always surprised when I read British/European newspapers. I am stunned by the amount of time they spend giving unsolicited and very unwelcome advice about our health-care system, our elections, our second amendment, our weight, our intelligence, and now our foreign policy is under scrutiny by the playboy prince. Do you scrutinize Russia and China the way you do us? When did your idiot prince last offend Iran, North Korea, Germany, or France?

I am also stunned, but less so everyday, by the amount of vitriol and hate directed at an ally, at a friend. It is odd how we treat you as equals and trust you to take care of yourselves. Our newspapers and our citizens keep our noses out of your elections and never comment on your domestic policies or try in anyway to interfere with your lives. When you elect a new leader we say congratulations and wish you well without questioning the intelligence of your electorate. Do we get the same courtesy? Certainly not.

As for Americans saying that we saved your bacon in the last world wars, I wouldn't worry about it as you are rewriting history quickly enough and explaining that the real heroes were the Russians by virtue of them having the "most casualties." Makes sense to me. At the rate you are going in ten years, or so, you won't even have to mention America or Americans, although, you will have to come up with a plausible explanation as to why there are so many American graves taking up valuable European/British real estate. It shouldn't be a problem for you, just plow them under and erect some council housing for your new Asian immigrants, and then you can say the Americans never came at all. End of problem.

You are going to lecture me about about the "idiot" Americans posting on the Telegraph "have your say," and ignore British smugness and viciousness? Why am I not surprised.

1—Yes, so am I .Perhaps one should take it as a compliment of sorts, proof conclusive that America is the premier power. But you are correct that British newspapers, the leftist papers in particular use any excuse to critique and if necessary bash America,in that regard you are an easy whipping boy for the ills of capitalism.

2—The British do certainly scrutinise Europe and Russia to a great extent, and lately Putin’s antics get plenty of press and media.

3—Yes, the anti-americanism is vile from a minority at times, but always remember that they and their press cohorts do not speakfor the British people.

Believe me the Guardian and Independent have NEVER spoken for the British mass public, and never will.

4—Calm down. Who is re-writing history here?.

The British still realise and recognise the American sacrifices. To suggest modern Britain dosent know what America did is bunkum, if anything younger Britain is sadly ignorant of what BRITISH men and women did in two world wars, Korea, the Cold War. Not America

Because increasingly Britain gets its history from film and TV as well, as the dumbing down of the West continues. All this generation sees is Tom Hanks,Band of Brothers and U-571...younger Britain would blindly probably agree with and think 100% correct an American who stated that America save Britain in two worlds wars.

And frankly, to criticise us for re-writing history is hypocrisy. WE have had 60+ years of ‘we saved your ass/’youd be speaking German if not for us’, WE have had 60 years of Hollywood re-writing history, from Operation Burma and Errol Flynn to the obscenity of U-571.From a British viewpoint, in the last 63 years, our immense conributions and sacrifices in 1914-18 and 1939-45, even 1950-53, have gone from being respected and even lauded to be sidelined and distorted, to frankly now being almost ridiculed...

The very thing you and many Americans claim Britain and Europe does now...so try looking at it from our point of view.

No Briton, in 1948,1968, 1988 or 2008 thought or thinks that Britain won the world wars alone (esp ww2) and was the only armed force worth a damn in either.

Can I say the same for America?.For the most part, of course yes, but as this very website shows, the ‘bar-room history brigade’ exists across the Atlantic.

5—Excuse me?.

YOUR first post to me mentioned only vile British comments about America(which they WERE), and not the several anti-British comments by Americans on the DT site.

MY post was simply to point out that BOTH sides left ignorant remarks on that site. And now you are accusing me of ignoring the British remarks?. When I clearly recognised both?.

Personally I think we’re all screwed - as in dark times ahead.

The media has created a new “reality” that has made the masses blind to simple truth. Few anymore know how freedom was won much less how to keep it and that others will take it from them if given the chance.

We are coming to a time that we’re going to have to learn the hard lessons of good and evil all over again in blood. We’ve forgotten our core values and how they came about.

Re: #4

Calm down? I thought I was calm, but far be for me to know myself better than a Brit knows me. Calm down? Who do you think you are, John McCain? Calm down? Rush Limbaugh just said, “Calm down” is what you say to an unruley 6 year old. I agree with Rush, it is extremely patronizing, but not surprising considering the source.

Could you please tell me who does speak for the British people? I have often wondered where this very silent, and never seen “British people” live. Are they never allowed out to speak? Are they kept locked up somewhere? Why do we never see this “British people” that I am always told loves America. We never get to see them. Bring them out if you can.

One other thing that I find extremely amusing is how bent out of shape the British get over American entertainment and movies. Just think of this, American movies, made for American audiences, where wow, the American is the hero, not the Lithuanian, not the Estonian, but the American. What a concept, I wish I would have thought of it.

If your young people are so stupid, and your education system so lacking, that they are inclined to believe everything they see on the big or little screen then it is your problem. If your citizens can’t stand to watch an American movie without believing that it is “real,” if your citizens are incapable of watching an American movie without disparaging the source country then perhaps you should begin creating your own. The outcome would also suit your British sensibilities. Fix it over there, and stop whining about what other people do.
