Tuning out Rush Limbaugh
The Guardian(UK) ^ | February 6, 2008 | Niall Stanage

Posted on 02/07/2008 7:06:49 AM PST by Dane

In mid-January, talk show host Rush Limbaugh told his 13 million listeners: "If either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch." Those of us who watched last night only saw Republicans favouring the two alleged destroyers over Romney, whom Limbaugh consistently favours.

Snip

The irony in all of this is that McCain actually is a staunch conservative on many issues, including abortion, and is not above the occasional pander to the hard-right himself. (Last year, he seemed to back off harsh criticisms he made of religious right leaders during his 2000 presidential bid, for example.) But his strong performance yesterday indicates that grassroots Republicans are, in fact, willing to tolerate his departures from party orthodoxy. They continue to admire his heroism as a POW during the Vietnam war. And they still seem him as the most electable candidate in a general election.

No, we got stuck with this mouth breather

Haven’t heard that for a long time. My Aunt said it once about someone and I have breathing through my nose ever since.

McCain is no better than Hitlery or the Obomination.

This is getting out of hand. Any possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned in our lifetime will vanish if the Dems get to pack the Supreme Court with far leftists, which they certainly will if they get the chance. And McCain has been rock-solid on the War on Terror.

Rush is RIGHT! McCain has stabbed conservatives in the back time and again in his frenzy to cross the aisle to the Democrats (always a one-way path). McCain is a profane hothead who treated his first wife like a disposable Dixie cup. . not to mention the inconvenient little fact that he is too old and too volatile to get elected.

Watching how he and Huckabee have behaved (too accommodating to each other in order to apparently knock Romney out of the race, it would appear to me that Huckabee, the preacher man, has made a deal with a devil in order to get the power he craves. I doubt that he would turn McCain down if offered the VP slot, and the fact that he apparently wants to associate closely with a man of that caliber is telling.

I’m not a Mormon and don’t know a whole lot about the LDS church, but I doubt that Romney would shove it down my throat if he were elected. He seems like a nice man with a glowing biography up side the vain, profane McCain - If McCain’s the nominee, forget it as far as I’m concerned.

You should win FR's Tag Line of the Year Award.

Thanks...:-) I've never won a prize before. Hope it's something good. And, yes... sometimes politics makes me bang the keyboard a bit.

Consider today and what's going on. Then think about this...

Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth?
I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided,
three against two, and two against three.
The father shall be divided against the son,
and the son against the father;
the mother against the daughter,
and the daughter against the mother;
the mother in law against her daughter in law,
and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

"Wake Up!" It's time to get involved. It's time to vote.

Even bad things happen for a "reason." We must do our best. Read the excerpt from "Wake UP!"

We survived 8 years of Clinton...we can survive 4 more.

Bill Clinton was terrible, but fortunately he was also lazy and self-indulgent. Hillary is neither. She will be far, far worse. I predict that people who are saying this today will live to regret these words.

No, we got stuck with this mouth breather and the other two remaining “fellows” thanks to open primaries, slanted MSM coverage, laziness on the part of the base, and loaded debates.

You forgot to mention Christy Todd Whitman and her gang of RINOs. Here's a little bit of info on her and her fellow blue bloods.

" She has formed a political action committee called It's My Party Too-PAC (IMP-PAC) that she intended to help elect moderate Republicans in 2006 and 2008 at all levels of government. She has allied her PAC with the Republican Main Street Partnership, The Wish List, the Republican Majority for Choice, Republicans for Choice, Republicans for Environmental Protection and The Log Cabin Republicans. Eventually, the IMP-PAC went (according to its website) under the auspices of the Republican Leadership Council."

The RNC people represent what's left of the old guard of northeastern country club liberals who ran the GOP as their own private club for generations before Reagan brought in millions of evangelicals and other social conservatives. These blue bloods hate everything about the conservative wing of the party, especially the pro-life, anti-"gay rights" evangelicals, and will do anything it takes to boot us out. They would rather go back to the old days when they couldn't win squat than to let the conservative rabble like us choose "their" nominee, and they have the money and influence to do whatever it takes.

It makes NO DIFFERENCE if McCain gets the WH or Hitlery and the Obomination! It doesn’t matter. ALL OF THEM will get us to the SAME destination. The ONLY difference is the SPEED on how we get there.

This is not only entirely innaccurate, most Republicans (evidenced by the polls) don't believe it, either. It's unfortunate you can't see the giant difference.

The GOP is taken over the Left and the establishment's talking point isn't conservatism and smaller government but "electability." Shades of John F*ckin' Kerry! I still won't vote for the MSM annointed GOP candidate come November.

As far as Rush goes, “Every knock is a boost.” If they understood him, his audience and his manner of celebrity they would know he revels in such notorious attacks.

I agree with you it is all about Rush, his ego, and his bankbook.

But it is funny to watch his lemmings throw themselves off a cliff, while the GOP primary voters ignore him and his advice, given the primary results.

JMO, the more Rush attacks McCain, the more he helps McCain.

Rush is holding a mirror up to the conservatives in this country, not trying to tell them what to do.

And given the primary results, GOP voters are not listening to him.

Just get past your hatred of McCain and realize what you(FReepers) are doing. You say, “I won’t compromise my conservative values and vote for McCain and just become a shill for the Republican party.” Well if Hillary gets elected because of you, then I’m sure you’d agree with me that you will be choosing the greater of two evils. Also, you will be like a spoiled kid who doesn’t like the flavor of candy given at a birthday party so he steals everyone elses and throws it out.

Sometimes it seems like the GOP actually wants to lose elections.

Well then why don't you put your electoral covicktions where your mouth is.

If Rush is the new Reagan, let Rush do what did, get elected to public office. He could run for Governorship of his his home state of Missouri.

Of course he won't, he's content to have his own little echo chamber that just spews vitriol.

"We survived 8 years of Bill Clinton. 4 years of Jimma Carta. We'll survive whatever politician is in the White House.

We are still suffering the effects of the Franklin Roosevelt Presidency.

The people whose property has been confiscated by the Supreme Court's "Eminent Domain" decision are suffering the effects of ill-advised Supreme Court appointments.

The grammar school children who consider oral sex not really sex are suffering the effects of the Clinton Administration.

Many people survived the destruction of the Roman Republic.

Many Europeans will survive the establishment of the Islamic Caliphate and the shariah as law in Europe.

We will survive too. The United States of America might not.
