RUSH: Here's Matt in Southaven, Mississippi. I'm glad you waited. You're next on Open Line Friday. Hello.
CALLER: Hi, Rush. It's an honor to talk to you, sir.
RUSH: Yes, sir, thank you very much.
CALLER: My question is based on this apparent campaign strategy that the fear and loathing of Hillary will be enough to win, and the whole concept of opposition politics, in 2004, John Kerry's entire campaign relied on people simply disliking Bush, and look where it got him. So my question is, is wanting someone else to lose ever enough to actually win?
RUSH: In Hillary's case it might be, because she has a higher disapproval rating than anybody who's ever been elected president. Her polarizing numbers are such that her negatives are up to 49%. So it's already there. There is already fear, anger, loathing of Mrs. Clinton, and it's only going to intensify if she gets the nomination, we get down to the election. John Kerry, the haughty John Kerry who served in Vietnam tried to run a hate campaign against Bush. The problem there, Bush is not unlikable.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: Bush is not. Hillary is. Hillary is, at first glance, unlikable. The Republican strategy is no doubt to unite the party on the basis of fear and loathing of Hillary. Don't doubt me on this.
CALLER: I guess I just don't like the idea of turning over our party, turning it into something that is just against something else. I mean, aren't Republicans supposed to be for things?
RUSH: Too late. Too late now. We gotta work on putting the party back together. The point now, the real focus now is House and Senate races. The conventional wisdom is the Democrats are going to clean our clocks, and they're going to expand their majorities now. They may, but the House and Senate are going to be crucial to thwarting the liberal agenda that's going to come from the Democrat majorities in both those places. Look, the Democrats only have a one-seat majority in the Senate right now. They're going to have a much greater majority than that. Right now Harry Reid needs nine votes to get anything done. Mitch McConnell can afford to lose something like, what, 14 of his Republicans. What are the odds? That's why Dingy Harry hasn't gotten anything done. In the House, it's much the same way. The House hasn't even tried to pass serious legislation. They've just made their political statements here for the kook fringe base. But the margins in both houses are very close right now, and if you could keep it this close in the Senate, you could stop the liberals from getting things done in the Senate, regardless who the president is. That's gotta be a focus. Some of these Senate seats that everybody is sacrificing, "Ah, the Republicans are going to lose 'em." Who says? It's only February.
An excellent argument for not staying home. Can’t vote for McCain? Fine. But there are other things at stake besides the presidency, as was pointed out.
YES, we absolutely have to vote the rest of the ticket, no matter what we do at the top of the ticket (believe I will register a no vote).
Were it not for our loud voices, all the republican house members and a hand full of blue dog democrats, the McCain-Kennedy amnesty program would already have happened.
This is one of the reasons I won’t set out ‘08.
I see very few people saying they are going to stay home. People aren’t going to support McCain, but they are going to write in. I will be writing in Reagan.
I live in Southaven.
Voting for our Mayor Greg Davis to take Wicker spot in the house. Also that day Wicker is running for Lott’s seat and Cochran is running too.
We need one page of these that are fronts and, one page of these for the backs, that we can print and cut, to fill the prepaid envelopes from the RNC and the ACU.There will be a price to pay for supporting McCain.
We can vote conservative on Senate and House primary seats, and vote for anyone other than McCain on the Presidential seat, including a democrat in the general election.
I’m certainly not planning to stay home. But I WILL NOT vote for McCain. I’ll vote for any other decent Republicans on the ballot, however.
If hillary is nominated, a lot of Democrats may stay home, too, although it’s too early to predict. Depends on her V.P. candidate.
I’m afraid a lot of people WILL stay home, however. In the 2004 election, as many as 10 million extra voters turned out for Bush, because they liked much of what he did in his first term. But they stayed home in 2006, and probably will do so again in 2008.
In particular, a lot of Southern Evangelicals will stay home. So, let’s hope we can persuade a fair number of people to turn out and vote for everybody but mcCain.
EBM. Everybody but McCain. Kind of catchy.
This point was reiterated by Laura Ingraham on The O’Reilly Factor tonight. We have to turn out for the races down the ballot, councils, state legislatures, congress, senate and so on. In Texas we have judicial races down the ballot, we cannot hand those courts over to the leftists.
Yep we need something to stop whomever gets elected when they tack to port...and don't quit.
My new slogan: “WIN CONGRESS! - The Presidency is already lost.”
If we would work hard on winning Congress, whichever of the 3 dems running for President won’t much matter - but we NEED to win Congress!
Please post your Senate table here. It is a important resource.
Yeah, well I didn’t want to start a war by saying that. :D
I’m not informed on nautical terminology, but wouldn’t that be “tack to starboard”? Or is tacking not what I’m thinking it is?
I cannot say how good it was to hear Rush re-entering the Arena, Mad John may not be his or my cup o’ tea, but we must heed the call, we have been napping and the Republic is in more jeopardy then I’ve ever seen since the Clinton Years.
We must wake, we must fight, let’s start by making a list of Truly Conservative Candidates for the House and Senate and state level Candidates in seats we can win.
Any ideas as to where to find such a list?
Thats great. Might as well vote for the Democrat.
John
I will be writing in Allan Keyes. He spoke yeasterday at my son’s hugh school. Too bad Mom and I were not aware of it and missed him. However, our son came home on fire. Dr. Keyes spoke to the kids for 2 hrs and gave them a great lesson about the Constitution among other things.
I would never stay home. I’ll write in the presidential slot and I’ve got a good congressman but Levin and Stabenow are still strutting around DC.
Port=left, Starboard=right. If only they would take a starboard tack...
O-o-o-ops! Yesterday. Repeating 100 times: “Spell check is your friend”...
When you said they needed to “tack to port” it confused me. Thanks. :D
Yep, that’s what I said, isn’t it? :D
THAT is EXACTLY what I said several days ago.
Hitlery thinks she has won - everything.
Our way to fight is in Congressional/State races/local legislatures.
I’ll vote a straight conservative ticket.
Eggsackly! With Congress in the balance right now, this election can be a firewall if we stay engaged. Don't like the presidential candidates? Fine. Write in Mickey Mouse if you want to. But vote for tax-cutters, SoCons, defense hawks, for the House and Senate wherever you can.
Sounds like a plan, let McKane wither on the vine.
I still don’t understand how we can ignore even the presidency. With the need for even moderate to conservative supreme court judges, future Brady bills on weapons and the complete socialist direction that a barack or clinton would direct the Bureaucratic organizations( FEMA, EPA, FBI, and other agencies) we need to moderate the changes that can affect the American people outside of the legislative process. Remember Pres. Clinton’s inane use of the historical preservation act to “protect” 10-15 million acres of Utah land? It had coal and mineral resources that the State of Utah was looking at opening up but really was a land grab for the government. Green friends told me they want it protected from development and that any way that the land was being protect, even the use of a law meant for other purposes bordering on illegal use of a law, was acceptable to them.
WE CANNOT forget the the president has much more power than even President Bush used, for he did not fully use or did not want to use all what the president has. It will be exploited by the national socialists (not NAZI) posing as populists know as Senators Obama and Clinton in their rush to change the United States into an image of happy little European socialists they believe we all need to be.
Alan can crank out a pretty good speech. I like that about him. I am glad your son enjoyed the presentation. I think it’s great that Alan was able to address the kids for that period of time.
I’ve followed Alan for a long time, actually it would be more accurate to say that I have observed him from a distance for some time. Although I agree that he can belt out a very moving presentation, I honestly don’t think he’s presidential material.
I have come to the place that I appreciate what he does have to offer, and leave it at that. I can understand why you think a great deal of him.
I remember before Bush was elected Rush had to keep telling us that Bush is a conservative. Well he isn’t and now maybe, hopefully, the opposite is true again.
But make no mistake about it...
Rush is saying “don’t sit it out,” and elect R’s to the House and Senate...
But he is not saying to vote for McLame....
That I will never do...
“Don’t doubt me!”
(....sorry, Rush)
We must wake, we must fight, lets start by making a list of Truly Conservative Candidates for the House and Senate and state level Candidates in seats we can win. Any ideas as to where to find such a list?My suggestion: Start with a list of Republicans currently in the House and Senate. . . . . .then turn the paper over!
We must focus not on a new party—Ross Perot tried that— we must focus on getting the Republican Party back, How?
This condition was caused because we didn’t work hard enough to get Conservatives on the ballot—We were stuck looking at this flaw and that flaw—Fred’s wife was too young, Rommey was too slick, Hunter wasn’t well known. We deserve McCain and his tribe.
What can we do to change things? Lots! We are the pajamahadim after all. This is how I see it,
1. We need a list of Conservatives Running for office—Republicans, and Democrats (yes, their are a few over on that side) and independents. Once we get the list we should support them with our blood, sweat and treasure.
2. We need to think Conservative first—party second.
I would be happy voting for Democrats or Reformers as long as they are conservatives.
3. We need a symbol to focus around just as the Bullmoose Progressives of TR’s Day. I suggest a Rattlesnake and the motto “Don’t Tread on Me” as in the days of 1776.
4. We need an Organ—we have the Free Republic but a newspaper, magazine, or newsletter would be good. Maybe one exists out there were we can keep in touch with all of the movement. Make no mistake—this is a movement.
5. We need to focus on more than the White House, we need to focus on the school board, the Court House, the city Hall, and the state houses as well as the House and Senate. It must be from the bottem up.
6. If no one is conservative enough—one of us must run. Yes, this is not easy, but no election should be free of a conservative voice.
7. We must write letters to the editors, call into talk radio, set up blogs, we must set up lectures and print flyers. Think small — then big. Today we take over the local school board. tomorrow we take City Hall, then the State House and Governor’s Mansion.
8. We must, like the patriots of old, stick together. Our enemies will be legion, the fight will not be a simple one. But remember we are fighting for our nation’s soul, for the nation our grandchildren will live in. Do you want a PC world of Metro-sexuals to live in the Land of the brave? Please, Take this oath with me:
” I (your name) swear on the grave of Ronald Reagan that I will work as hard as I can to elect conservative citizens to office dispite their party. I vow to work as hard as I can to bring about a conservative revolution to return our beloved America to the values that made her great. I pleade my self, my treasure, my heart to bring about positive change in this land, so help me God.”
Now lets get to work! Change starts now! Not the change Obama speaks about, but real, profound, change. List what you want to see changed—and more importantly how we can do it working together.
A) Fly the Rattlesnake Flag each day.
B) Look into who’s on the ballet and find out who is a conservative.
C) Help them out—If you can, give them money, if not, work for them knocking on doors, at least put up their sign on your lawn. If they don’t have a sign-Make One.
D) Write letters to the editor—not one but as many as you can. Put up posters for your man (or Woman) even if you have to make them yourself! Talk to people about them.
E) Be part of the process not a spectator! We can not lose if we work together and help one another!
Wow.
Orwell loves you.
Well, our pillars of shared values are
RTKBA
Abortion
Taxes and Pork
Border Security
So NRA/ILA, Right to Life, ?Taxes and Pork?, ?Border Security?
We could add Globalism, and if we did the Club for Growth would be a good place to start.
I’ve always found the NRA/ILA Voter Guide to be top notch when looking at candidates, but they focus on the one issue.
Ballet is pretty gay. I don't think many conservatives do ballet.
We need a rallying point humblegunner, no one in DC or on Cable is offering to be one.
Lynn Swan, the one time candidate on the Republican ticket in PA took ballet humblegunner, that stuff is a very tough isometric workout.
And it takes a real man to wear tights...LoL!
True enough.
You are thinking along the same lines I have been wandering. The Republican Party is our damn party, not their’s. The organ, of which you speak, is exactly what we need and we need it in every town and village. Finding the right words to put in said organ, is the key to the whole thing. We need to some writing and most definitely, communicating among ourselves.
I think people will understand common sense. They did in 1994, but then things were left to our trusted legislators.
However, don't write in a name for President. Vote for whichever of the minor parties is on the ballot. Libertarian, Constitution, Green, even Prohibition of that's the only choice. Nonsense write-ins don't get counted. Votes for minor party candidates do get counted and reported. That's the way to send a message to the Republican leaders.
I am reminded of two elections when Republicans stayed home.
1964 and 1974.
.......I will be writing in Reagan.......
Don’t write in a “dead” or “fantasy” person ... it can void the rest of your ballet in many states. It is KEY that the lower part of every one of our conservative ballots COUNT, this is what Rush is talking about. You don’t have a choice on the top of the ballot, that’s already “fixed” ... but you DO have a choice on the candidates just “below” the top of the ballot.
Well that damn sure leaves liberal mclame out.
Because McCain is an open borders loon. Among a few other thousands faults.
You bet it does! If I knew how to *hhhhooooiiick* a loogie in print I would. :)
I think Rush’s message today was very positive. I didn’t feel “as” depressed as usual.
Some folks have worked themselves into such anger, that they can't see that. Maybe McCain isn't the best candidate in the race, but when the voting is done, he'll likely be the one with the most Republican votes. Staying home in a snit won't help the conservative case, if it means the Republicans lose the White House. Even if we did take back the House and Senate, or got close enough to forestall some of the things a Democrat President wanted to do, it doesn't change the fact that the President appoints people who make policy for every single Agency in this country, and the House and Senate doesn't get a vote on all of those decisions.
It's very short-sighted to say don't vote for the Republican because it will just encourage the moderate/libs to think we like what they're doing. Work for conservatives in the House and Senate, and I'm suggesting that when you do go to the polls, write the RNC a postcard telling them exactly why you voted as you did, that you didn't vote for McCain because you like him OR his policies, but because you love this country enough not to hand it over to those who would stand by and let our enemies do us harm. Our military in Iraq and Afghanistan deserves our support, and giving the country over to the Democrats would be a slap in the face to those brave souls.
If we work to elect a Conservative House and Senate, it doesn't matter what McCain thinks about immigration, if he can't get the legislation passed.
That’s a good slogan.
I would never stay home. Unless the rest of the candidates are as bad as McCain. Alan Keyes might be on my CO ballot for Pres anyway.
