I’m going on a backpacking trip the end of the month. We had decided on northwestern Arkansas since Louisiana (where we really wanted to go) was too far and has alligators.

Years from now you’re sitting in the Old Folks home and somebody asks, “How did you lose your leg?” Do you want to answer, “alligaor” or “leprosy”? — Me too. We’re going to Louisiana.

I started adding the keyword diseases to these kinds of threads several years ago. And most of these just happen to be associated with the massive influx of illegals. Hmmmmmmm.

The list continues to grow:

TB
leishmaniasis
chagas disease
dengue fever
polio
hepatitis A, B, and C
neurocysticercosis
Necrotizing Pneumonia (MRSA
Morgellons Fibre Disease
syphilis
pertussis
sickle cell anemia
measles

Some former threads of related interest. Notice especially the dates of these.

The Morning News NWA Online ^ | December 10, 2007 | By John Lyon
LITTLE ROCK -- The people of the Republic of the Marshall Islands are among the unhealthiest people in the world. An estimated 6,000-8,000 Marshallese immigrants live in Springdale, AR. and the surrounding areas, of whom 867 are children enrolled in the Springdale School District, Pritchard told the House and Senate Interim Committees on Public Health, Welfare and Labor.Deputy State Health Officer Dr. Joe Bates testified that between 2000 and 2005, Northwest Arkansas had nine cases of congenital syphilis, six of which involved Marshallese; 38 people with infectious syphilis, 21 of whom were Marshallese; and nine cases of leprosy, all Marshallese....

"Americans should be told that diseases long eradicated in this country — tuberculosis, leprosy, polio, for example — and other extremely contagious diseases have been linked directly to" illegal immigrants, Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) told the Business Journal of Phoenix last month.

Leprosy, the contagious skin disease evoking thoughts of biblical and Medieval times, is now making its mark in the United States, and many believe the influx of illegal aliens is a main factor. "Americans should be told that diseases long eradicated in this country – tuberculosis, leprosy, polio, for example – and other extremely contagious diseases have been linked directly to illegals," Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., told the Business Journal of Phoenix. "For example, in 40 years, only 900 persons were afflicted by leprosy in the U.S.; in the past three years, more than 7,000 cases have been presented." "This...

“Learned in grade school that leprosy (known as Hansen’s Disease after the bacterium was isolated in 1911) is mildly contagious where modern public hygiene is in effect, and can be arrested but not cured.”

Leprosy can be cured.

“Today, there is effective treatment and the disease can be cured. There is no longer any justification for isolating persons with leprosy.”

They could easily be; they have a special status which allows them to immigrate without a green card, work and stay here almost permanently (violation of criminal laws prohibits entry and can cause future deportation)...

This is from the Chamber of Commerce in Springdale, Arkansas.

A Special Message from Perry Webb
Health Organizations Refute Story
A personal message from Perry Webb
Dear Chamber Members

You may be aware of a media report that is suggesting there has been an outbreak of leprosy in Springdale. This is not true.

The Chamber has been in touch this morning with Governor Mike Beebe, Congressman John Boozman, the Center for Disease Control and the Washington County Health Department. Each of these entities are fully engaged and are reporting to us that there is no “outbreak” of leprosy in Springdale or Northwest Arkansas.

In fact, the Washington County Health Department explains nothing has changed in the number of known cases of communicable diseases in Northwest Arkansas in the past year.

Please help us in our effort to diffuse this non-factual story with the accurate details of the Chamber’s research from this morning.

Perry Webb
