Albania, Saudi Arabia first to recognize Kosovo?

BRUSSELS, KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- Beta says an analysis shows Kosovo's unilateral declaration will first be recognized by some Islamic countries.

The news agency has had insight into the document, put together "by some EU countries", that says the province's independence declaration, rejected by Serbia, will be recognized in "three waves".

Albania, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and some other Muslim countries will lead the way, the report says.

This will be followed by Austria, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Belgium, and, the document speculates, France, Great Britain, Germany and Italy.

The United States is also likely to recognize Kosovo very soon.

The "second wave" is said to include Croatia and Macedonia.

Others will be careful and wait to see how the situation develops, bearing in mind the precedent such recognition sets.

Russia, China, Cyprus, and a number of EU countries that were earlier reported as opposed to the recognition, that include Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Slovakia and Greece, will not recognize Kosovo.

The presence of the first two countries on that list also means that the province cannot count on a UN seat, or membership in a number of other international organizations where Russia has the veto power.

Bosnia-Herzegovina's recognition will be made impossible by the Republic of Srpska's objection, the study concluded, and added that countries such as India, Brazil and Argentina are also "very critical" toward the possibility of recognizing Kosovo as a separate country.

Meanwhile, Dušan Janjić, who heads the Forum for Ethnic Relations, said that "independence of Kosovo and Metohija, which the United Nations will not recognize, will have only political and psychological weight at first," while "only later will it become evident that it is not what the Kosovo Albanians had expected."

In a live broadcast by the Kosovska Mitrovica radio Kontakt Plus, Janjić said late Saturday that the self-proclaimed independence "will not bring full freedom, better life, while new passports will not enable them to travel everywhere."

"Around 40 countries will recognize them, which is fewer than the number of countries that recognize passports issued by UNMIK today. That will be the beginning of a dangerous phase, which is when the Albanians will realize that it is not what they had been promised for the past 20 years. That will open room for extremists," cautioned Janjić.

If they don’t hurry up Ireland may be first. Ireland’s FM Ahern said this afternoon that Ireland would recognize Kosovo.

The EU is not united by any means

Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain are against this travesty, while others like Malta and Portugal would prefer that Kosovo’s future be decided in the UN Security Council.

Meanwhile neighbor Bulgaria and its patriots is split:

The classical definition of a “sovereign” nation is a nation that can defend itself against its external enemies and impose the rule of law within its borders.

That definition has been stretched in the 20th century, to include many tiny, essentially defenseless nations who are only protected by the good will of other countries, the moral authority of the UN, and the military power of such countries as the United States.

Kosovo will not have the power to protect itself. And it will not have the moral protection of the UN, for what that is worth. It will, apparently, have to recognition of a number of important countries, including much of Europe and the U.S.

But, the question is, will these countries be willing to defend Kosovo if the Serbs decide to reclaim their province, which legally belongs to Serbia? There is no basis in international law for this unilateral declaration of independence.

I wonder if the US and Europe want to fight yet another Balkan war in behalf of the Muslim terrorists? Perhaps much depends on who the next president of the US will be. But Hillary would not want to admit that her husband is wrong, Obama is pro-Muslim, and McCain is an idiot.

And Bush seems to be too stupid or resigned to the situation to do anything but go along with it. In the end, it will boil down to the Kosovars, the Albanians, and the Serbs. Plus the Bosnians. Plus the Russians. Plus the Germans.

Could be the basis for a world war. It’s the right region for it. What stupidity.

Of course I am. They will recognize right after China recognizes Taiwan’s independence.

Are the FYR Macedonian leaders CRAZY, or have they been given KoolAid by the EU? The Shiptars will literally eat their poor little country alive!!!!

This whole “Kosovo independence” thing is clearly designed by the evil one.

You're right. It's obviously time for the United States to be condemned as illegal, since they had "no right under international law to declare unilateral independence" in 1776.

I think that the Bulgarian communist PM and President are hedging their bets and waiting. while their allegiance is nominally with NATO and EU, in their heart of hearts they have always been Russian puppets , and are waiting for marching orders from their fuhrer .Putin

The United States did most of its fighting on its own and drew up its own Constitution. I read that the Kosovo "constitution" has been written by Germany.

They are having everyone do everything for them and they are not a country which could support and defend itself on its own.

The quasi statelet exists due to western geopolitical maneuverings and does not have any of the potential or homegrown smarts that the American colonists did.

Besides, the Albanians already have their own country - Albania. They desire a greater Albania of Kosovo, western Macedonia, southern Montenegro, Chameria in Greece, etc. This will encourage them.
