Pew Poll: 20% of White Democrats Vote McCain If Obama Is The Nominee
Pew Poll ^ | February 28 2008 | Pew Poll

Posted on 02/28/2008 6:48:09 PM PST by jveritas

Democratic Base Fissures

Although attention has been focused on McCain's problems with the GOP base, there are indications that some Democrats might defect if Obama is the party's nominee. Overall, 20% of white Democratic voters say they would vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee. That is twice the percentage of white Democrats who say they would support McCain in a Clinton-McCain matchup. Older Democrats (ages 65 and older), lower-income and less educated Democrats also would support McCain at higher levels if Obama rather than Clinton is the party's nominee.

Yup, way more than 20%. Those were the ones that answered honestly to the poll. Another 10% or more know that once they close that curtain in the voting booth; there is nobody watching, listening, or telling them what to do but themselves.

My thought is there are a lot of middle class traditionalists that vote Democrat simply because they don’t realize the party left them years ago. We all know them. They are in total denial over the secular progressive agenda of the Democrat party. A lot of union midwesterners from places like Michigan, etc.

Obama is going to rub their faces in the fact the todays Democrats have more in common with Germany or Castro than the JFK they remember.

That's true. Large numbers of Republican and independent voters will likely swing to vote for Hillary, if Obama isn't nominated. Feminists, along with religious (see '90s "swing vote") and import interests (China, for one) are hoping that Hillary will be nominated. Many are afraid that McCain will be too hawkish about defense (that he'll stop Iran from building nukes and the like).

Exactly. People need to stop being spooked by Obama, including Rush. He’s very beatable, and Hillary isn’t going away even after he pummels her on Tuesday so she will drag and divide like she always does.

McCain will take Obama in a landslide. He’s a mess.

I believe it will be more than 20%. I also believe the majority of Independents will vote Republican if Obama is the Democrat nominee. Which is why I’ve always said all these big rallies for Obama is just the leftist, crazy people and once the general election comes around, a different story will be told.

Blacks believe Republicans ignored their plight for 100 years after slavery and the Democrats came along about 1958 or so and realized here was a big block of voters looking for handouts in return for their vote. The Democrats got what they wanted - votes. The blacks got 50 years of dependency on the Government.

Ir’s probably more than 20%.

Correct. Only 20% will admit it to a pollster. The other 80% won't admit it out of fear that they'll be turned into the PC Police, and sent to Reeducation Camps.

That’s OK.... 20% of ‘white’ Republicans will vote for Obama if McCain is the Nominee.

It all equals out in the end.

(For the record, even though I can’t support McCain, I sure as heck won’t be voting for the hard-core socialist Obama. But there are a bunch of people who will, out of protest.)

That strategy might work in a caucus, but behind the curtain it wouldn’t bother them. Just like New Hampshire(?)
Barry had a lock on it and Hillary won instead. Of course, those people may help offset our side that refuse to vote for McCain.

JFK changed the landscape, and also, history was taught differently: they almost never mentioned that Southern leaders who were against the civil rights act were mostly—if not all—Dims.

Obama per se is not the guy to be concerned with. What poses the problem is how he gets ahead - promoted by worshiping MSM that suppresses any review of his actual politics and his actual ways and any damaging info about his candidacy.

It’s not him who is tough to beat. It’s just hard to beat anyone, no matter how weak he or she is, when you yourself are muzzled and your hands are tied. So far, his promoters muzzle opposition with impunity.

Hillary Clinton denounces anti-black supporter
Staff Reporter (elderly hispanic lady gives obama hell)

Posted February 28, 2008 5:52 PM

Sen. Hillary Clinton today rejected and denounced what some considered racist comments from one of her Hispanic supporters in Texas. Clinton supporter Adelfa Callejo had told the media that black politicians have done nothing for Hispanics and that Barack Obama “simply has a problem that he happens to be black.”

The 84-year-old Dallas Latina leader said that “when the blacks had the numbers, they never did anything to support us. ... There’s a lot of hurt feelings about that. And I don’t think we’re going to get over it anytime soon.”

In a separate interview Wednesday night, Callejo seemed to repeat the assertion to The Dallas Morning News even as she seemed to distance herself from her own words. “I have been told by a lot of people that they did not trust him because he is black,” she said. “They don’t trust him because of the local people. But that is minor, compared to his lack of experience. The most important thing is that there is no track record with him with Hispanics,” she said. Callejo then added: “I don’t think it is fair that that feeling exists.”
